Depending on when it is, the Two lakes campground is real nice and should be open in the fall. Another one could be the Chippewa Campgrounds near Medford. The campsites near Clam Lake are nice too, but yes are spread out a bit. I guess I know that truly it would be hard to hold the BIG event up here. But I would like to try to hold some sort event up here. There options up here, and the area would be fantastic but I do understand the logistic side of things too.

I just needed to to get on my tree stump and gripe a tad. I respect all the board members and their opinions. I just kinda wanted to open their eyes some. If there is somehow, someway to hold an event “UP North”, I’d like to be involved is all.

In the spring, one of the teachers is going to take her class geocaching. I told her to call me to help. What do I need to do here for help? As in setting up Temp. caches? The School has a 40 acres with a nice loop in it.
I have been trying to get in contact with the Supt. about placing a cache there, but this might be my chance to help out that way. I guess I just hi–jacked my own thread.

I donÒ€ℒt recall a way to suggest a place for a WGA event so I will just make this post.

For the upcoming year, it would be nice if the Flambeau River State Forest be considered for the next picnic or campout.

This loaction was brought up at the begining of the topic.

There are other Federal and State campgrounds in this are in the Clam Lake-Cable areas, which are not that far from each other. The Sawyer County Fish Hatchery Park would be a great place to hold an event. There are ski loops and the Birkie Trail right there. YOu are within 10 min drive to a vast amount caches and other trails. Yes this would not be a good place for the BIG Event. But I would Love to hold some kind of event uo here. I’m sure I could get other locals envolved if this could happen. There are some great. great caches near here.

Again, I was not trying to attack anyone, just trying to make a point that the WGA needs to look at the WHOLE STATE when choosing a place for an event. I ‘ll try to get any information the board will need.

IF I was to try to hold event up here, Just what kind of support would I get from the WGA? Yes, I am fairly new at the whole sport and have never attended an event, but would do my damndest to get the ball rolling to host an event up/near here-in this area.

If an event was held up here, I’d bet you would get cacher’s from both Minn. & Mich. attending cuz it’s just about an hour drive from Duluth,1.5 hours from Ironwood, and 3 hours from the Twin Cities.

My point is that they Represent ALL of Wisconsin. So if a suitable location was nominated near Superior or the northern most location in Wisconsin as Port Wing, it should be considered. But from posts in general, the only place for an event should be within a 2 hour trip from the 3M’s. And yes, I realize that Most of the Members are from the southeastern part of the State. But how do you get more people from the northern part interested in this sport? I would think holding an event up here.

I dropped of 2 notification forms today to the local DNR office. I talked to the Property Manager for about an hour. I found out that he and his son also caches, thou he just hunts for them and does not log anything.

He thought that the 2 spots I had chosen were great locations.
He also told me that he had tried to get the ball rolling on the DNR Policy before the was a policy so there would be no problems in the future.

He also pointed out some new location that woulds be a good spot for a cache. I asked him about a canoe landing that is owned by the DNR on the Namekagon River(which is part of the NPS Scenic River way).

He stated that the NPS would have no authority of the landing and that he would have no problem if a cache was placed at the landing, but I should check with the NPS just to get a clarification. I asked him this because a cache was just archived because it was also on the river way,but on a city park. Does anyone know of anything about this policy, as in caches being placed on public property adjoining the scenic river way?

Howdy cheezehead! If this is the canoe landing/wayside across from the ranger station in Hayward, we put a cache there but it wasn’t approved and we had to archive it and remove it “immediately” because ” It was on the National Scenic Riverway”. We had done this shortly after we placed our Eagle Nest/Cache Nest one which also turned out to be on the National Scenic Riverway but at a public park, which turned out to be OK. It’s my opinion that a cache could be placed at this canoe landing if the DNR had no problem with it.
Two of our newest caches are on DNR property and we submitted form 2500-118 via email and had them signed and approved after a short delay. (first time this particular DNR person got a caching request) Check out cache Slough Gundy GC18E2 for the additional text we had to add to our cache description. Team Crazy4 leader.

After talking to both the Hayward DNR and the NPS Office in Trego, I got a “YES” that the DNR would have no problem with it(I will if ya put it back there cuz it’s a 1/4 mile from my house and I want that spot! πŸ˜› ) the NPS has no jurisdiction as that property is not theirs. As it was explained to me , the cache can not be placed in the high water mark of the river(It would be very hard to do anyways I believe.)So it is my understanding that the Hayward DNR would allow a cache at that location.
I did the leg work to get Eagle nest cache reinstated as that is also 1/4 mile from house.

You must understand thou. that the reviewed have to go by what info they have(like different maps and such ) and the reviewer had contacted NPS to get their approval for the cache after he disabled the cache. That is there job.
The reviewers are not from this area so they do not always know the details of a piece of property and have to go with what they have.

I would be glad to help, But I thought this was the WISCONSIN Geocaching Association, not the SOUTHERN WISCONSIN Geocaching Association. It is not my intent to derail this thread. I have stated my concerns in the proper areas before. What’s the use of haveing a place to suggest a site, if it doesn’t matter anyways, because you know the event is more likely going to happen south of Eau Claire anyways.

And again,as with most politics in Wisconsin, things get slanted and geared for the metro part of the state. πŸ™

This would be a great place! Also, there are some Federal campgrounds around the Clam Lake-Cable-Drummond ares too. You would be in the middle of the Chequamegon Forrest and also very near Sawyer County Forrest so there would be LOTS of room for Temp caches. There is also Copper Falls State Park close by also.

Here is a link of the campgrounds near Clam Lake.

Just a note. I called the local NPS office and asked them about the questions I had asked up above. They said that the NPS has no jurisdiction to land that is owned to county, city or state properties that border the Riverway, and that it would up to those municipalities and their geocaching policies. I asked for that in writing and the will email me it ans will submit it to the WGA for reference.

The 2 Caches are GCY6WM and GCY712. The info is there. The link will not work. I have tried to replace the link on both caches and does not work. To me, the link on here look weird, but works still when ya click on it. Thanks for the help. πŸ˜€

OK……I did that to all my caches. But now I noticed that the 2 cache where I have the DNR link for the notification no longer is working.

    How do I fix that?
