Well the snow finally stopped falling! Now here comes the cold! There’s gonna be some pretty frigid FTF’s this weekend.

Nope. We cache without paper. All that’s needed is something like a PDA or the fancy Oregon GPSr that all the cool kids have. We’re not cool, so we use our nuvi like a PDA.

I bought an I-pod for paperless caching. Someday I might put songs on it too.

Wasn’t that a cartoon or something? The Adventures of Scrappy Scout????.

    I think that’s a very cool name.

Opps! I forgot the NOT. It’s was 30 here last night and the next few nites are to be warm. Unless we get a week of sub-zero temps, it could be tough for a freeze up around the cacves. And in recent years , we have had a February thaw that has caused major havoc for the Birkie race.

    Thank you for the questions.

To answer your first question, Yes, I would attend. I try to make as many events as I can all over the state, and Beyond. I would love to see an event up there.

For the first part of your second question, When the cache page is published, it appears in the Weekly Cache notification from Geocaching.com, In addition, there would be a link posted on the WGA Homepage under the Events Section. The Idea that was posted about a article for a “Weekender” Type paper, is also a good Idea.

For the second part of your question, As far as the WGA Paying for any advertising, It would have to depend on what the cost was, and if it was approved by the Board of Directors. If the costs are reasonable, I do not see any problems with that.

For the third question, Yes, WGA Equipment can be used, as long as it is returned in the same condition that it was when it was received.

For the fourth question, I do not think that setting up a Event has to be an every year. If someone up there, or in any part of the state wants to head it up, thats is fine, but to say and event has to be held up there every year, or in any of the quadrants, I would have to respectfully say no. The regional events are put on by other cachers, with the WGA’s backing.

I would really like to see an event in some of these less cached areas of the state.

Just a rebutal answer and if it get deleted fine. What good is posting it on the WGA site if the people you are trying to the event don’r know about the WGA? How many people read the weekely GC.com Email?? With instant notifications set up, I don’t.

In know this isnt Superior but what about Interstate Park, Its about an hour south of Superior and could be a great spot for an event.

I dont know enough about Superior to suggest location. I have only done 1 cache in that area, but theere maybe great locations that could be suggested

Yes, this would also be a great park for an event.
Patterson was used as an Example!
ZUMA PLEASE CHANGE THE HEADING OF THIS THEAD!!!!!!!

My original heading did not read Superior Event!

And don’t forget Amnicon Falls State Park or Copper Falls State Parh

Yes, of course the WGA would support a regional event in Superior, as long as it met the requirements of regional events as posted above.

In fact, we have discussed having one of our big events at Patterson, since Patterson has one of the best shelters in the state and decent camping, and it may happen at some point. The biggest issue would be marketing the event, since it would be a 6 hour drive for the majority of our members.
Is it not that far of a drive to the southern events for those who live in this area?
Take a look at the north coords for our 4 events of the past year:

    Lake Wissota N 44° 57.609

    High Cliff N 44° 09.899

    Wausau CITO N 44° 57.157

    West Bend N 43° 26.005

I’m sorry, but that may seem North to you but that is central WI. N 45° & N 46° is NORTHERN WI.

If you look at the facts, 3 of our 4 events of the past year were quite a bit north of our population center, which is probably close to West Bend. So if anyone has a right to complain about the location of our events, it would be those folks south of N 43, which are quite a few. We do plan to move the events around the state, and the next event is way south, at Bong.

There really is no way to make everyone happy with site selection, but we do try to take into consideration all members. Also, I should add the goal of having more smaller regional events was so that we could have events in the far corners of the state.

Ummmm ok…. I should have added that this just hypothetical. There are no plans that I know of.

in reply to: The best place to make a custom coin? #1920425

I was actually thinking of 100 coins or so, and thought the price tage woul d be around $400 or so, but I don’t know if that will work. I FIRST need to convince the wife. And that aint going to be easy. I do turn 40 this summer and was thinking along those lines. I may have to look into pathtags instead.

It’s not been ice making weather weather Up North for the last few days and it sounds like it wiull be a warm week as well.

in reply to: Why I voted "NO" to logging temps #1887251

Now why can’t you have a raffle? I go to many different banquets year.
There is a the general door prize raffle and then many other raffles. I could care less if there was a raffle if you found X# of temps.

One Banquet has 4 gun Boards with 5 guns each on them. Each Board is a different ticket. So you have to chose if you want to buy a chance on a particular board.

It wasn’t till it was brought up in the canidates forum that I started thinking about it. I didn’t win anything at the picnic either and I don’t care if I did or not. The same amount of tickets should have been given to all those that attened. The Geo-bingo is fun. It’s a chance to meet other cachers And I would think that 98% of the people filled out the whole card.
I wish could explain face to face with everyone that been reading this why I brought it up. My typing skills suck and I do not always able to write they way I want to be heard.
So now I will be known as the guy who killed WGA raffles. Again, my beef is not about finding temps. The issue I have is that it was not fair to be exclude for not finding a temp cache. I thought that the new series of caches that Zuma put out were great as were the older caches that were there. I had a great time with Trekin and Elf Doc. and that’s what was important to me.Because I do not get that area, I chose to hunt the perms. When I went to the Borson event, I chose to hunt the perms and not the temps.

I think there a few simple solutions here. They just need to be figured out.

    I agree.

Cheezehead, I can understand your point, but maybe look at it this way. The church is doing a fundraiser for whatever. To raise the needed money, they are selling raffle tickets at $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00. It is still your choice on what you want to do.

I personally gave up logging temps at any event due to the, “let people play how they want to,” as long as I agree with it opinion.

No, not the same thing Furfool. The only reason extra tickets were given was to make temps count for something. I am not saying I should have gotten an extra ticket. But the tickets were for the general drawing.
Shouldn’t a bonus ticket have been handed out if you found all the Perm caches? What if it was reversed and you only got an extra ticket on for Perm caches? They are the ONLY ones that do count. But what if there were a handful of Terra, Navie & Big Bob caches. They are caches, they have log books, but they are not able to be recorded on GC.com either.
Would people go find them only?.

My original argument has nothing to do to how people play the game. It’s just an unfair/disadvantage to those who choose not to play the game that way.
And maybe this is a stretch in thinking here, and there’s been a whole lot of that going on- Lets say that it was posted that all who attend the event and wear a red shirt, they will get an extra ticket. All that don’t wear a red shirt, won’t get the ticket. Out of 100(e.g) people who attend the event, how many do you think would wear a red shirt to the event?

My hope, in future WGA events, is that there well be a special & separate drawing for temps. Problem solved. Those who chose to play can find temps to their hearts content.
