Kelly’s question seems to have disappeared

      She wrote:

While many more members do use Facebook over the Forums, the Forums create a historical record of ideas, comments and general discussion. Facebook’s algorithm for what is going to be seen and when does not necessarily create a historical document. What do you think that you and the WGA can do to draw member’s back to the website?

        Kelly, it’s a good question.

Maybe promoting it on other social media.  I think updates, like the board minutes have been good to bring us to the page.

As a pie in the sky idea,  maybe there a way to create an app for the WGA?  If anyone would know,  I’d think our IT specialists on the board would know.

My favorite cache type?  Well I’m a traditional guy mostly if you look at my stats… but my overall favorites are well done multi caches and letterbox style caches with directions on how to find the cache.  Cache’s like Team GrouseTales Salute to the Stute.  Caches like Ranger Boy’s Hissy Fit and Naive.  Caches like Hack1of2’s Carnival Fish Pond (GC80QZ0).  Caches like Goldie’s Geo Idols series.

I have a personal goal to find as many Golden Oldie caches as possible.  I’ve found 24 Y2K caches and hope to a bunch more this year on a southern road trip with friends, kalkranz and lacknothing.  Also, planning a visit to see the first caching friends I ever had, beccaday and family, out near San Francisco.

The Jasmer challenge has always been my favorite challenge.  I love to learn the history of places and finding 20 year old caches, especially with original logbooks, are just so amazing!

I’ve recreated two oldies as hides, Grousetales aforementioned Salute to the Stute and jvechinski’s GC65A Vernon Marsh.  I’ve adopted one of the original night caches in Wisconsin, Should Have Bought Him the Tie’s Glow in the Dark.

Trekkin and Birdin’s Wisconsin Classic Hides challenge (GC2D6N8) and Wisconsin Weirdness Challenges (GC2M3MW) and the WGA State Parks series are also on my longitudinal, do whenever I can, list.  Its a blast visiting these caches and if elected, I’d like to expand upon the State Parks series.

I’m really interested in the history of geocaching in our state and elsewhere.  I am thankful to have people like John Sudar (Hack1of2) who have researched the WGA extensively.  I’d really like to see him back on the board in an official Historian capacity.

I’ve wanted to run for the board for a long while.  I’ve been nominated to run multiple times over the last half dozen years, but with my young kids, I knew I wouldn’t have the time to commit to the responsibilities I would be taking on.  I talked with my wife, Lisa, about it last year during WGA elections and we both agreed that this year would be a year that I could finally say YES.   I’ve enjoyed caching and meeting others at events.  I want to help the WGA continue to grow and get the word out about geocaching as a fun family activity.  I think I’m good at seeing varying viewpoints and summarizing the pros/cons of situations.  I think overall the current board has done a good job given the constraints of this past year’s pandemic and I’d like to help however I can.

I echo lacknothing’s comments and would support switching the picnic and camping events.  The family loved coming up and camping for the weekend.  Fall is a beautiful season in Wisconsin for a long weekend road trip.

Funny and strange!  Found this thread looking for log sheets.  The micro log sheets that Russ mentions above says “Central Jersey Geocaching” instead of WGA.

Miata!?  As in the Tapps cache Miata comes to Waukesha?!  It’s still active last time I checked.   Would be great to meet you someday.   If you decide to come to Waukesha again,  reach out.   We hold a couple of events every year including ther Janboree and this year will be a Road Rally Community Celebration event.

As for your question,  I use c:geo. Lots of good things with it.   Easy to find caches on the go or save them to find for later.

                  Welcome back!

I posted this as a separate Facebook post,  but adding it to the official list.  As it currently stands,  I am unlikely to participate in the lcg as a vast majority of the caches are over 100 miles away.   I previously enjoyed playing the game when lonely caches were in my area of southeastern Wisconsin.   Wondering if we can change the rules of the LCG?  There are very few caches on the LCG in southeast Wisconsin.   I would like to see the list expand to all caches not found in the last 3 years.  I would propose we expand the LCG list to all caches not found in last 3 years.   Once those are cleaned up,  go back to the top 500.  Alternatively, another thought, separate the lcg into 4 quadrants of Wisconsin.    200 caches each,  800 total.   Keep same rules, cachers can find lonelies in any quadrant they’d like.   Would allow everyone, regardless of location,  to play.   Thoughts?

Is there still a thought to bring MOGA to Wisconsin in the next couple years?

                          Thanks Dave

I am trying the submit a report for Artopsy’s The End of the Earth cache.  I am only finding a handful of caches available to choose from on the drop down.   Is this a bug on the webpage or on my side?

                          Thanks!

I find this new “rule” particularly annoying.  The goal is to have fun.  The Cache Bash over the last couple of years has had a couple of “side” events that were a lot of fun and a better alternative than going to a bar or a bowling alley.  My idea of geocaching is to be outside.  Furthermore, the lack of a CITO or other events on the same day ruins, or at least makes the chance for a multi icon day challenges, more difficult.

How far away do “side” or alternative events need to be away (in distance) from the Mega or Giga event?  If I want to host a birthday party event for my daughter on the same day in West Bend – will that be considered a conflict?

In any case, I just want to say I appreciate Deejay and Bec for doing what they do voluntarily and doing a good job at being fair.

Welcome back and a pleasure to “meet” you.

There are some old and new great long multi caches out in the Southern Kettle Moraine if you are interested.
