I generally do most of my caching on the weekends, so like the Hack’s, I plan a route. Yesterday, I decided to find some puzzle caches that I had worked on over the last two years or so, but had not found. It was fun finally getting some of them off “my list.”

I think that’s another great idea Hodag.
Suggestions will be taken through this month, and we hope to have a decision made in April.

Example: This Northern February 2018 cache GC3N2KT “I Think Eye Spy a Monster” could have had this post as a note to put notice on the cache page of the nomination and the redirect to the WGA website: Wisconsin Geocaching Association Write note This cache has been nominated for the Wisconsin Geocaching Association Oct. Cache of the Month. For more information click here.
Great suggestion Linda!

Last month was the first month for POTM. Its currently being run on Facebook, but definitely a valid point.

Yes, bottom line is how do we get the members to vote. As it stands now, only one cache gets nominated in each area, some times none. Those caches then automatically win. Not really what I think the COTM should be.
Geocachers travel, so I don’t think because there is a higher amount of cachers in one area, that necessarily means they will only vote for caches in their area. If there’s a good cache, regardless of where it is, I’d nominate it.

I think the hardest thing about positing photos in the forum for POTM would be how to tally “likes.” Any ideas?

This Tuesday sure feels like a Monday….
Hopefully we don’t have a week of Mondays
That would really not be good.

Great feedback everyone! I think one reason why the BOD generally does not nominate for cache of the month, would be that some pay perceive it as favoritism. That said, if I find an amazing cache, I want to tell everyone about it, and what better way then to nominate it for COTM.
There is a place on the nomination form to tell why you’re nominating the cache, I’m just not sure if that is then viewable by everyone. I think its hidden for anonymity for who nominated that cache.
I do like the idea of Cache of the Year. That’s a great idea. I also like the idea of adding pictures. Although I know some cache owners don’t like spoilers, but maybe just a cool photo of the area around the cache.
Keep the great ideas coming!

I received a cache (not a geocache) of 20 old newspapers today, some from the 1920s and some from the 1950s. Two were about the death of President Harding and his VP (Coolidge) being sworn in. The others were mostly about major cold war issues, such as Korean war offensives, Russian atomic bomb test detonations, and Soviet plans to infiltrate communists into the American government. Fascinating reading!
Oh wow, that’s pretty cool. Especially the papers from the 20’s.
