    That’s a King Boreas century challenge cache in the greater Twin Cities, and what I shared is it. Seriously! For those not familiar with KB cache listings, he generally provides only a little info. No hints, just the bare minimum.

    And in this case, a comment to “ask whoever gave you the solves for your 100 mystery finds!”

    This is the listing….GC18B71

    I looked at this and gave it a whirl but only got “Incorrect” via the checker. My first thought was the left hand side was an offset to add to the North and the right hand side was an offset to add to the West. That didn’t work for me.

    If you make the big event today we’ll knock this one off for you as well. I know where I found it which is where it’s supposed to be and weathernowcast just checked on it a few days ago when he was in town.

    Yep, we’ll be there, but the CO already emailed us, so we’ve narrowed our search area. Got one in Forsyth Park to take care of, too.

    The Christmas decorations are up here, so you’ll get to stand amongst them. You can literally “Elf Yourself” here.

    Certainly tempted by this. Got excited when I saw another tour of Berlin as a cache (did the other one but whiffed on the final for a DNF), but then saw it was Wherigo with us lacking in the necessary equipment. 🙁 Would love to see how this all works, so we’ll keep an eye on the weather and our social calendar.

    I’ve entered an event cache for tomorrow for this. Hopefully it’ll get approved in time.

    Publish failed due to 14 day lead time for event caches. Oh well – Learned something new.

    I’ve entered an event cache for tomorrow for this. Hopefully it’ll get approved in time. I’ve only recently been reading about these and will try to explain as best as I can but have limited knowledge. I’m hoping someone else will volunteer to help explain. I figured it’s my hometown, so I’d volunteer “post / host” the event, but I’m definately not a Whereigo expert.

    Here’s the text from the cache listing:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    There seems to be an interest in Whereigo caches and a number of people have volunteered to bring their equipment to help show others what this cache type is all about.
    Meeting Place: Nathan Strong Park Gazebo
    Date: 12/6/09
    Time: 3:00 pm
    There will be a brief overview of the concept of Whereigo caches. The overview will touch on the required equipment, the software required for building “cartridges”, and how these are similar / different to other types of caches.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    CodeJunkie Says – “As a programmer – this is poor programming because you’re relying on the operator precedence of the language in question.” “As a fellow cacher – need more info”

    Can you post a link to the cache? That may provide some clues to solving this one. I would agree that by most programming standards it’s multiply on both sides and then add the results (i.e. 1680).

    For those of you joining in the excursion. There’s a super easy benchmark to log just a few blocks from this tour. The old St Stanislaus Catholic Church steeple is a benchmark. You’ll be able to see it easily as you approach town. So far only 3 of us locals (weathernowcast, glorkar, and myself) have logged it. I have a picture posted in my log so you know what to look for as it’s not your normal disc style benchmark. Here’s the link: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=OM0976

    How do I get the text from GSAK to my note pad?

    You have to export a GPX file from GSAK to your PC. This will be a text file that you can open with notepad. Open with notepad (or your favorite editor) and copy the entire contents and paste into my application.

    When you get ready to release these next year how about some of us responsible cachers gang together and move some of these around to ensure they don’t go missing? I have contacts on the east / west coasts and could get them transferred pretty easily if desired.

    Another option would be the “Flat Stanley” approach where a responsible cacher could take it for a few weeks and log it at a bunch of caches.

    Just trying to think of some ideas to get some good mileage for the kids.

    will CamoQueen be along too? the more the merrier!

    My daughter (camoqueen) will probably stay inside to enjoy the warmth of home. I’m still struggling with “Beyond Center Field” and getting it’s home to stay dry, but will try to get this cache of hers back active for the gathering (even if only on a temporary basis). I believe it’s the only cache in Berlin that’s currently disabled.

    Being the owner (weathernowcast) is a personal friend I had to try this. I did it virtually last night using the “emulator”. Very cool. I’ve never done one of these before and don’t have the equipment so it was nice to be able to “emulate” it. I’d be interested to see how this works using “real” equipment.

    If I decide to not sit in the woods, I’ll join in as a local resident (lived in Berlin my entire life). This would be a great opportunity to meet some additional cachers as well.

    OK, I have a small GPX file I created in GSAK. How do I cut and paste it?

    Just open the file with Notepad (or similar). Then copy the entire contents and paste into this tool.

    OK – Alpha Version 2 is now out there for some additional trials.
    http://webpages.charter.net/edmarks/GeocachingCircle2.htm

    Updates:
    1) GPX/XML via user – Just copy / paste the entire text contents from a GPX/XML file into the box and click on the draw button.
    2) Map extents are calculated based on the data in the GPX file and the map is recentered / resized to fit the data you supply.

    Notes:
    1) I’ve used data directly from geocaching.com pocket query GPX files, GSAK generated GPX files, and a GPX file generated by someone using IPhone / MAC tools. Success will all of these so far.
    2) I need to ensure the data stays user specific (i.e. hidden) so that we don’t give away any secrets (finals for puzzles / multis). I know some people use GSAK to store their final coordinates and the application needs to be sensitive to that.

    Next Upgrades:
    1) Allow file upload (instead of copy / paste).
    2) User defined colors, marker type, etc.
    3) User defined map size(s)
    4) Options for handling “puzzle/unknown” caches that have fake / real coordinates.
    5) Options for handling child waypoints.

    Again – please continue providing feedback and I’ll continue to refine the tool.

    Congratulations on the milestone. I can’t imagine what it’s like to find 1K+ of these things, but I can see why it’s addicting.

    1K Congrats. Although we haven’t met in person, I’ve seen you log a number of my caches. It’s great to see fellow cachers in the rural area hitting these milestones as well. It’s a long way off for me yet, but I’ll thank the grand kings of Sellzup for that.
