Congrats and a great cache to boot (even if BakRdz did “steal” my spot 😉 )

I’ve run into similar situations. I’ve always had good luck having the owner remove the “Premium” status so we could log the finds. I’ve found most owners to understand the situation and be cooperative.

I also agree with RSplash40 on the kids email accounts. I have 2 girls that are 8/10 and I still don’t let them have their own accounts. That will be changing soon, but it’s critical to monitor these closely.

I actually wish GC offered a discount on student / family accounts. We have 3 accounts within our family (mine, my oldest daughter, and our family). The three accounts are really just for keeping track of who does what. If this were tied to a master account (like most email systems) then it would be easy to track it. Just my thoughts.

Congrats. It seems like it was just a few days ago when you were telling me your sights were set on #500 and here it is already. Next #600 (and then #666?).

Congratulations on the milestone. This is a very unique cache and I’m honored that you chose me as the “phone a friend”. I was glad I could lend on this one although you very very close on both. I definately know the feeling of being so close, but yet so far away.

    300 x 😀

Way to go. I gotta find a partner to try a 30, 40, or 50 run some time. More for the experience of doing it than the numbers. I’ve come close to 20 in a day but have never attempted anything more. Not sure I’m ready for a 24 hour 200+ yet though.

in reply to: Sagasu is puzzled? 500 times! #1916528

Congratulations. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to complete 500 puzzles. Although I’m working on SSSS which appears to be the equivalent of 500 puzzles. 😉

Congrats on a task well accomplished.

This makes me wonder though – All these counties have county line in Lake Winnebago. This could make for some interesting 5/5 caches. 😉

Congratulations on scoring the 1500 pointer. Where’s the pictures? and how much are the sporting goods suppliers paying for this one?

BTW – Next time use a lesson I learned early on for multi’s – Always right down the coordinates so you can double check for entry errors at the next one. 😉

Thanks to everyone for the supportive words and encouragement. This was truly a special cache that I got to share with my family. The cache itself is probably the easiest I’ve ever done (just get there and take a picture), but required some planning to make it happen.

10 days before the trip I tore my ankle up while sparring at karate and still needed a number of caches to get to the Magic number. I almost had to resort to a plan B for #200, but hubbled around grabbing a few park/grabs in place of some more difficult lonely caches I had planned on.

The ankle is getting better and hopefully I’ll be back in full force soon, which is good because there are a number of great lonelies this cycle.

Looks like MuddyBottoms beat me to the punch on this one. Congratulations and thanks for doing our series (and final) to hit #400. I feel honored for someone to choose our cache as a final milestone. Your encouraging words in your logs are also well appreciated. Heres the link to the log from the final.

I’m actually thinking of starting a home built tracker for these that I’d make available. I currently don’t have a website that allows scripting or programming so I’m a little constrained to static data. If I had the ability to program (my forte), I’d build a web interface where owners could submit their own information (like geochecker) and then others could query it. The next step I envision is a download / GSAK macro that would merge the puzzle information into the user fields so people could query it however they like (DING DING DING – now we have a winner and we’re not dependent on GC for it).

    Something
FP + cache name = Field puzzle
    or
HP + cache name = Home puzzle

I’d prefer putting the P first which would identify the “Puzzle” then “Solve Requirements” (Field, Research, etc.)

I actually like the idea of a third rating or classification. For example – If you select “multi” the next classification could relate to simple offset (ie. multi), offset with simple calculation (ie. cemetery style), etc. If you select puzzle, then the classification could represent the style of puzzle / mystery.

As a programmer I deal with these “extensions” on a daily basis and they aren’t all that hard to implement. The biggest challenge is to figure out what to do with existing data, but it would be easy to seed these with some “classic” or “n/a” value.

I’m disappointed to hear that the associations don’t have pull with the GC. I understand they’re a business but without the associations and the members they wouldn’t have a business. Just because the association is non-profit doesn’t mean the opinions aren’t worthwhile.

Why should a BOD’s position be neutral?

If all BOD’s positions were neutral, nothing would happen.

(Maybe that’s off topic, but it is still a valid question). ❓

I have to agree. I’ve been involved in a number of “board” (non caching related) positions over the last 6 years and you have to have an opinion. The key is that you’re held to a higher standard and expected to promote the cause. So enough about he said – she said, aren’t we all adults?

Let’s put the differences aside and talk about the real issue. Cache saturation shouldn’t be an issue in my opinion, but “quality” is. Quality is defined differently by many, but to me I’m fine with a good puzzle teaching me something about the area, a building, history, etc. I enjoy a walk to acquire the answers and am not disappointed by finding the final in a less than desireable location (bus stop, street sign, guardrail, etc.) to leave some other areas open for traditional caches. I’ll even restate what I said earlier about location – Location with history is much more interesting to me than just the plain location (think Washington DC).
