What’s the going rate if one were to sell said geocoin? 😯 😉 🙄

Depends on if you get the coin that is real gold….. and depending on the carat of the coin…. 10K is around $730 an ounce and 24K is $1770 an ounce! 😆 😆 😆

I wasn’t thinking of the real one because I don’t see much chance of me winning that. BUT – I am in possession of one of the trackable coin versions. I figure as a trackable it’s worth a minimum of $4, but considering it’s “collectable” and “rare” it should fetch a few times that amount.

I don’t do armchair logging for EC’s or Virts, but I do lots of online research ahead of time (i.e. thinking of LDove’s comments)

When we went to South Dakota this summer I did a number of EC’s / Virts but tried to research them ahead of time. My reasons were:
    1) Educate me and my family about why we’re actually visiting the spot
    2) Are there any “cool” things to check out while there or in the nearby vicinity
    3) Reduce the time required to try and chase the answers down while at GZ so we can just experience GZ
    4) Determine potential parking spots, approach, trails, etc.

I could have easily armchair logged most of the one we did, but the “smiley” isn’t why I cache. For anyone that’s been to the Black Hills, online photos just don’t do the landscape justice. Being there in person and experiencing it in full 3D is just amazing. In fact one of the EC’s I researched led us to hiking to the top of Bear Butte as a family which was an awesome experience. The hike wasn’t required, but after we researched the history everyone wanted to make the climb. This led to a single smiley for 4+ hours of hiking, but is an experience my kids still talk about on a regular basis.

Sorry GR – I didn’t really answer the question you asked, but …

What’s the going rate for a puzzle database of valid solves? Is this a cash basis, swap scenario, or some blended alternative?

I have a database with 800+ puzzle solves complete with final coords and the detailed solve notes. I’m thinking this might be worth selling on the open market to help offset the gas expense I incur while caching. If I include the earthcaches, virtuals, multis, etc. there are another 200+ caches included that could easily be shortcut for a quick smiley also.

Disclaimer: As a techie I define a database as something more than a simple spreadsheet/listing with rows/columns of caches w/ coordinates.

Is there going to be a 1/1 reunion in the Rat River to look for a sunken ammo can? Talk about memories and HP2’s famous words “Let’s try here.”

Sorry – didn’t mean to steal the thread.

I’m confused then because isn’t that the whole point of this thread which is titled “Helping each other out”?

You started the thread with the following

Very low entry cost for this method. 😉 😆 😀

So teaching them how to solve the puzzle is wrong? I thought the whole point is to solve the puzzle.

I think you’re missing the point, which is that the CO should be the primary / first source to provide information regarding their puzzle.

Play the game with whatever rules you’re comfortable with.

I posted the following in another thread earlier today but will repeat it here as I believe it’s the “respectable” way to get help.

    1) GC # / Cache Name (both would be great)
    2) What they have assumed about the puzzle type (i.e. it’s an anagram, it’s a soduko, it’s a math puzzle, it’s a trivia puzzle, etc.)
    3) What have they tried? Please include specifics as applicable.
    4) If the question is specific to a particular digit(s) of the solve, please provide the details behind it including any website used, math used, etc. This really helps the CO get right to the point.
    5) Be as specific as possible when emailing the CO. They are certainly willing to help, but without knowing what you’ve tried, what you’re assuming, etc. they can’t provide much help.
    6) Feel free to write a note to the cache page when you solve it and the solve is fresh in your head. Obviously try to avoid spoilers, but feel free to claim victory of the solve prior to actually finding it.
    7) If you’re group logging a puzzle cache, provide the CO with the common courtesy of telling them (via the log) “XYZ solved it, ABC found it first, but we had a great time caching as a group today.”

I’ve seen an increase in requests for help as well. I’m always willing to give help, but think it’s just common courtesy for the cacher to provide the following as a minimum:

    1) GC # / Cache Name (both would be great)
    2) What they have assumed about the puzzle type (i.e. it’s an anagram, it’s a soduko, it’s a math puzzle, it’s a trivia puzzle, etc.)
    3) What have they tried? Please include specifics as applicable.
    4) If the question is specific to a particular digit(s) of the solve, please provide the details behind it including any website used, math used, etc. This really helps the CO get right to the point.

Quality? Quantity? Choose wisely my friend.

I too have been busy reviewing caches I own so that finders (notice I’m not saying “solvers”) don’t have to “Play Battleship” with the geocheckers.

Can’t you just give us the solutions? 😉 😆

Is this a “preference” or “requirement”? 😉 😆
