Good recommendation. This one has been on my “Solved/Unfound” list for a long long time already.

Maybe a workshop at the new coffeeshop? That could be fun.

Who needs a workshop when you just have to ask and final coordinates are handed to you?

I didn’t verify the math, but it looks like how I would do it. Basically caring the “1” and add it to the minutes.

Sometimes coins gone for years will reappear.

I know you have been a member for a long time, so I’ll ask. What has been the longest period of time so far that a coin has been missing before it showed up again?

The geocaching podcast (http://www.podcacher.com) has been talking about these on the last few shows. A number of listeners have contributed and a few have interesting stories.

Just this last week one was found by a treasure hunter with his metal detector and they did some research to figure out what it was all about and got it returned. I think this one was missing for about a year.

Here’s one they had on show 385 a few weeks ago that was MIA for 6 years. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=TB405D

No, I believe it requires that you have POI loader to send the file to the unit after the macro runs. If you want to send them as “favorites”, you can just use the send to GPS command, but their won’t be much detail.

Exactly the thing I was thinking but not what I typed. Good catch.

Just like other threads where we’ve beat the dead horse. Keep the faith though folks. There are still many of us that play by the intent of the CO whether it be physically signing the log on a simple P&G (vs. just a drive by), visit all stages of a multi, solve all the puzzles we claim as found, etc.

EC’s are no exception to me. When we were out west earlier in the summer I could have easily armchair logged additional EC’s / Virtuals, based on 1/2 correct answers and/or online information. In fact I found much of the info online, but that just helped with pre-educating our kids prior to the trip about what we were going to see and why it was important.

This game has really become all about the numbers and much less to do about the experiences, learning, visting “cool” places, etc. Puzzle solves are passed out like candy to anyone that wants them, EC answers are shared as are the final stage coords for multi’s. I’ve also had cachers tell me flat out they don’t bother to get out of the car to sign the log (or find the cache) on low D/T P&G caches (they assume that being in the vicinity is “good enough”).

I’ve been sitting quietly watching this thread and I think there are a couple of other things to consider. I’m not saying I’m for or against, just pointing out some things that haven’t been talked about yet.

    1) If the cache hint is explicit about the hide container and it’s placed appropriately, then I think it would be a great WSQ placement (i.e. themed, less likely to be muggled, etc.)
    2) Maybe these containers aren’t going to be placed in cemeteries but out in the woods. Think it won’t happen? Check out the following LPC:

I have one of these, but I bought mine at a local big box store for $13-$15 if memory serves me correct.

For a walking stick I love it. Sturdy, lightweight, and collapsible. I bought my dad one for his birthday last year and loves it for caching in AZ to poke around for snakes and other things that might be in those dark hard to see places. The compass isn’t much, but looks cool.

This has my interest so I’ve reached out to Derek for more information via an email directly to him. Hopefully more to come and maybe a win-win scenario.

I have found that condensation is a problem in PVC pipe caches. Never found actual water, but lots of damp stuff inside.

I knew someday someone would find a use for those little moisture packs/pills that come in so many products 🙂

Ping Muggle B about these. A while ago he showed me some really nice ones they get at his place of employment. They were plastic capsules instead of the bag kind and I’m assuming would be a great option.

in reply to: GSAK question #1963853

GSAK is a very powerful program, but my disclaimer is that I’m a programmer. As a programmer using a tool written by another programmer I’ve found many of the features to be fairly intuitive and some others not so much.

I’m constantly finding new features / functionality in it to allow me to chop/slice my data in different ways. All together this is a great application for $30 and the upgrade charges are very reasonable.

The tool stand alone is very powerful, but the ability to use macros really makes this powerful. I’ve dabbled with writing a few of my own macros and it’s fairly easy. The challenge is making it efficient so it runs quickly with large datasets.

I’ve actually thought about picking up my blog and writing some articles for GSAK. I’m not going to guarantee anything, but if anyone has ideas send me a PM. I’m don’t have time to be a full time support guy for GSAK, but I would be willing to provide solutions to common use questions from the WGA members.
