Yes. It actually works good for this.

I’m looking at a 265 and a 760 right now. Do you use thwe nuvi to get you there and than a hand held to finish the job?

Yep-That’s exactly how we use it.

Same here. $100 Nuvi (she’s named “Sally” and she’s very polite if I make a wrong turn). There are ways to download the cache information to the Nuvi also so you can just pick the cache name from the POI’s (Points of interest) saving the hassle of typing in the coordinates. Unfortunately I’m “dumb” (slow learner?) and just enter them by hand instead of downloading them normally.

I’m thinking of attempting a 100+ day “just because”. My best day is only 30 something, but there are a few areas where 100+ should be easily doable. I’ve been working on a few friends to have a driver, navigator, and cache grabber/signer. It would be mostly non-descript P&G caches, but with the friends I’m thinking about it would be a fun day.

Well stated RNS. There is certainly many opportunities for many people in this game and you hit it spot on.

I’m not sure how many of us listen to the Podcacher Podcast (http://www.podcacher.com), but they just talked about cremation in the last couple of weeks. The referenced “Uncle Elwyn” (TB3E05) http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=TB3E05

Looks like Elwyn passed through WI back in 2006 from the logs.

Happy 45th. That is definately something to celebrate.

Welcome aboard Sarah. I like your avatar and I just smiled as I thought about how many times I known exactly where I was and it made me nervous. 😆 (i.e. The cache “Wet Maze” comes to mind).

Anyhow – I’m a Garmin fan and have been using my < $200 Etrex Legend for 3+ years now and don't see any need to change. Garmin has updated the Etrex line and for ~ $200 you can still get a very good GPS. I use my iPod Touch for paperless caching, but most major GPS units now include this. You also have a smartphone which should be able to be used for this (depending on model / platform).

My favorites are puzzle caches, but unfortunately there aren’t enough of them in the Fox Valley area to keep me busy.

I knew you were getting close and I was curious to see what it was going to be. It certainly looks like you grabbed a memorable one.

Congratulations on the milestone. It sounds like you were quite the famous chef.

Powertrails (i.e. caches placed along a specific trail or road spaced just beyond the 0.1 mile minimum cache separation distance).

Teamwork (i.e. “leapfrogging” which is allowed / encouraged on some powertrails. This involves having a couple of spare containers and dropping one with the log signed at the spot you pick up the container. As you’re moving to the next one someone else is signing the log and you continue the drop / grab / sign process as you go)

Congratulations. Great to swap a couple of theories with you on this one, but disappointed I couldn’t join up for the adventure. Definately has my curiosity, but we all know what that did to the cat.

I’ve seen lots of ammo cans for sale at garage sales, flee markets, etc. There is definately a market for these. My guess is the thiefs figure it’s an easy score for $10 (give or take) for each one they steal.

I’ve never had one disappear, but then again they’ve all been puzzle finals or multi’s in remote locations that see very few visitors. I also publish all my caches as Premium only now which seems to help keep them in place a little better (i.e. another barrier to the “cheap” thief”).

Anyone ever attempt inscribing a small little symbol on them to see if they show up a local garage sale? I’m thinking a full name they would easily block out some how, but possibly just a well placed dent or some long scratch mark in a specific spot to make it recognizable to cachers in your normal group?

Puzzles Puzzles Puzzles. Gotta love it when somebody does a puzzle for a milestone. Congratulations.

Your first trip here? I’ve made countless trips here over the years and always enjoy the scenery. You should have celebrated by pouring some soap into the fountain and letting it foam. 😳

The only thing I wish about challenge caches is that the person submitting the challenge also qualifies for it

I actually thought this was a requirement. I agree that it’s not right to place a challenge you don’t qualify for yourself.
