Basketball tourney all day Saturday, so I guess I’ll have to wait for warmer weather. Will you bring me an ice cold lemonade and gatorade in July?

I signed with “virtual ink”, but can provide the required info if needed. No armchair logging for me although it would have been easy for this one.

I have used an abbreviated signature in a few cases when caching with a small group for the day, but normally I like to sign myself.

In some cases where I’ve had a failed writing instrument, forgot something to write with, or lost it along the way – I generally take a photo of the log and note it in my online log. I figure being honest is the best policy and no CO has ever threatened to delete my log based on this.

As a CO though, I have deleted a few logs and also threatened to delete a few. Generally in cases where this happens, I email the CO and question them about it and ask them if perhaps they logged the wrong cache by typing the GC# incorrectly. I also ask them to try and recall something specific about the nature of the hide (i.e. container type, size, position, etc.). In most cases I let the log stand if they respond in any manner assuming it’s legit. In cases of non-response or obvious fabrication I just delete the log. The deletion is a rare occurence though.

I’ve also heard that some groups don’t stop to sign the log on P&G caches. They drive by and if they can see it visually they call it “Found” and continue on. This is usually done on classic signpost caches where a visual is easy or a quick touch/go (skipping the time to open/sign/return) also works.

Watch out TB Racers, I think that Beccaday is going to rock the race!

HMMM? I’m taking a racer with me to Belgium and attending an event. I’m sure I could get this one mileage both ways across the pond and then return it to Europe again on the next trip.

Wondering if this is “allowed” by the rules of the game. Not “dipping” as it would have been picked up by another, and then picked up by another cacher that just happened to have it before.

I dropped a Jeep Rescue TB in a cemeterey cache north of Berlin today, CJ. You can grab it to take along, if you want to!

I saw that notification. Am definately interested in grabbing this, but will have to try and sneak out of work early to make it before dark. Maybe I can send my dad to grab it?????

Making a call for any travelers wanting to hitch a ride to Europe (race / non-race TB’s accepted).

I also use a pair of rubber coated gloves for digging in the snow. Just your fleet farm variety ($10) and they work great. They don’t keep you very warm, but they are completely waterproof. These can be crammed into the field jacket pockets or easily into the backpack with the trenching tool.

I also have a peet boot dryer for my boots at the end of the day to slowly dry the boots without wrecking them. So nice to put them on warm the next morning.

Another tool is a small 6″ fan (Wally world for $5). I put this on low and let it blow air into my gloves to dry them from the inside out also.

I also have a pair of gaiters to keep the majority of snow off the pant legs which helps to keep the pants dry and me warmer. Another $10 investment at fleet farm.

Many times I use the attribute in combination with the CO to make my determination. Having done a lot of J&L hides, I’ve used the attribute in all seasons to give me a sense of how high / low it probably is.

I’ve also seen caches hid in hollow stumps that are “findable in winter” and truly are if you’re able to clear the snow / ice that is encasing it without busting the container (a word of caution).

Basically I’m an all season cacher and ignore this icon for the most part. I actually watch the “Not” version more closely as it’s a better indication in the winter that it’s most likely going to be tough. I figure if the CO says “Not available in winter” they probably know what they’re talking about. “Available in winter” can have many different interpretations.

Congratulations to the HP2 team. It’s great to see your passion for the game (LCG & Caching) and it certainly shows in your logs & photos.

I won’t be able to make the gathering on 2/2 due to work (I will be spending the day caching in Belgium hopefully), so I thought I would leave my comments here.

    1) Suggest changing “Rule(s)” to “Guideline(s)”. I’ve provided the wiki defintion of a guideline below. Guideline(s) are not as strict as rules and as such the administrators of the game would be allowed to make decisions (currently Rule 11b) using their best intentions and judgement while still allowing Rule 11a & 11f to apply. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A guideline is a statement by which to determine a course of action. A guideline aims to streamline particular processes according to a set routine or sound practice. By definition, following a guideline is never mandatory. Guidelines are not binding and are not enforced.

In my opinion the administrators of this game are doing an awesome job. These people have a passion for maintaining the integrity of the game and providing some fun for the rest of us. Even though I haven’t been playing as much lately do to other time constraints (family, church, etc.), I am glad to see this continue. I have cached in a few other states and nobody has a program as good as ours to keep caches fresh which makes me really appreciate our program. All in all, I think it’s a great program with very minimal changes required.

It’s been interesting to see some of the big point getters change over the years as peoples personal lives change which changes their priorities in life. It’s also great to see some new players enter into the fun each year. There’s also those “regulars” that continually rack up the points year after year which just amazes me.

Congratulations on a great milestone. It’s definately one you’ll remember and cherish.

    in reply to: Rule#10? #1966439

I believe the intention was to allow those reviewing these to easily find the logs on the cache page for verification. It also prevents “sandbagging” where somebody enters a bunch of reports near the very end of the month and gets a whole lot of points.

Considering its all done by volunteers, it is what it is. There may also be oversights in duplicate logs being awarded points. As a past admin of this, it’s tough to catch everything and I always erred on the side of awarding points unless there was an obvious mistake by the cacher (I.e. logging a found for a DNF or logging the wrong cache)
