Sounds like a great concept for an “Old Man” series cache. 😈 😈 😈

Way to go. The pictures make this look like one of those “must visit” BakRdz backroads (errrr I mean Rustic Roads).

I voted “This is not ok.”, but I think the trend here in the thread is very accurate with a variety of opinions. I think the most important things to remember are to be considerate and respectful of others.

I don’t log caches that I don’t find and I don’t log puzzles that I didn’t solve (of course I’ve never been at a puzzle final for one that I didn’t solve, so maybe I’m biased).

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve worked many puzzles solo, have had the help of the CO on many (you know who you are from my many emails), and have also worked cooperatively with other cachers. I’ve also helped other cachers with solving puzzles. I don’t feel it’s right to log puzzles you haven’t found. In my opinion, you always have the option to log a note stating “Found with group xyz.” in place of a find when you haven’t completed all the requirements (i.e. the puzzle).

The same holds true for other types of caches. Having the coordinates for the final of a multi and skipping the rest defeats the intent. Standing at the base of a tree for an Evil Monkey and claiming “Found” defeats the intent. Not rehiding the cache (i.e. leaving it exposed) defeats the purpose. Obviously I state these to show that it’s more than just puzzles that can be “shortcut”.

I think the key thing is that people should try to respect the intention of the cache as best they can. It’s what keeps it enjoyable for everyone. Some of have puzzle solving abilities, some have tree climbing abilities, etc. I know personally how gratifying it is to conquer some of these unique puzzles. I’ve also spent a few hours trying various methods to get up a tree knowing the intent was to do it without a ladder. It was a great accomplishment to complete these as intended.

I also think it’s important to note that these are only my opinions and the way I cache. Other cachers opinions certainly do vary and some may agree with all or some of my opinions. I think the important thing to remember is that we all show each other respect. NOTICE – I didn’t say AGREE, I said RESPECT.

I forgot one one how could I forget this one. – While doing a cache near a boat slip in Montello last summer a couple of young ladies started heading from their boat to the small woods I was in. I ducked down behind the pile of logs and they proceeded about their “business”. Eventually one of them spotted me and was extremely startled and wanted to know why I was watching them. Definately an interesting / awkward moment.

Let’s see, where to begin. A lottery ticket worth $27 (wait that was a FTF Prize on BakRdz cache).

Strange things include a previously smoked joint inside the cache container on an Evil Monkey cache (removed and discarded, but the scent lingered for a while until I could find an open bathroom to wash my hands – darn winter caching), dead animal skeleton, and a live rat.

Your finding however is truly odd and am I’m curious to see if you hear anything else regarding it.

BTW – All the Fleet Farms stores in the Fox Valley have lots of ammo cans available for around $7 each. I was in the Appleton and Oshkosh stores within the last 2 weeks and there were plenty available.

The month before deer season, I stopped in at the local gun dealer here in town and was surpised how little ammo stock he had. His comment was that he had access to 5 diffrent warehouses in the nation and they were all empty and that the ammo companies were going 24/7 and have been for a few years.

I’ll just comment that as frustrating as it’s been to get supplies, I love the fact that the administrator has been able to spur the economy in this sector. 😈 😈 😈 😈

HUMMMMM? I think other hand-loaders like myself are scarfing them up. Thanks to “the administration” prices are sky rocketing and us handloaders need a place to stockpile our goods. 😀

Not to sidetrack this tread, and just stating facts. The “administation ” hasn’t done anything yet. Ammo companies are running 24/7, yet there is no or very limited supplies on store shelves. WHY???? 😯

I talked with a couple of reliable sources (one who’s the manager for a local major sporting goods store) and this buying pattern is typical of a Democrat being elected following a 8 year Republican. “The administration” has also been very public about it’s plans for firearms and ammunition. My sources tell me that they can’t keep anything on the shelves because are worried that if they don’t get while the getting is good, they won’t get anything.

Even from a reloaders perspective it’s getting expensive and primers are few / far between. When you can find them they’re expensive and very limited in quantity. The increased price in manufactured ammunition has created a surge in handloaders like myself because of the cost savings and the ability to be more independent of “the administration”.

I’ve always tried to use the Difficulty / Terrain ratings to guide my logs. What? you ask. Well here’s my best explanation.

1/1 P&G – Unless you get stopped by the police, have an accident, etc. There’s generally not a whole lot of unique things to say about these easier caches.

5/5 – Chances are there is some challenging aspect to this type of cache. Maybe a puzzle component, a long hike, etc. These things should be commented on.

Obviously it depends on the cache and finder but I generally write longer logs than many others. It’s just my style and enjoy it. I also find myself writing longer logs on the harder caches and very short logs on the easy ones. I think the CO’s should also expect this and understand the logs on a P&G are going to generally by “TFTC”. Personally it rubs me when someone logs a 2/2 (or harder) that I’ve done and all they put is “TFTC.” These caches generally have something unique about the location, the weather, the flora / fauna, the container, etc. that is worth commenting on.

My daughter struggles as well putting the experience into words, so I normally have her add a note saying “Caching with my dad (CodeJunkie)” so folks get a better understanding of the situation. I always try to encourage her to come up with at least 1 thing unique about each find that’s worth commenting on.
