I have a Palm III. I switch the batteries quickly, one at a time, and I don’t lose anything. I know with mine the “one at a time” is the key, so there is nearly always a battery in contact.

I also had the same problem with my m125 losing data, when I changed the batteries. The above mentioned “one battery at a time” method solved this problem for me as well.

I wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with Bill Lecker, the Director of the Appleton Park and Rec Department, this morning regarding the cache I had placed at Union Springs Park and the events of the past few days. He informed me that he had been down to Union Springs Park for a first hand look at the site and that he did not see damage to the extent that the paper was leading its readers to believe there was. He went on to say that he felt the first article was inaccurate and the issue was being “sensationalized” and that the statement written in the article by the author about the park being trashed by geocachers was “over the edge.”

Mr. Lecker is well aware that caches are located throughout the parks in the city of Appleton. When I asked if the events of the last couple days would have a bearing on the caches that have already been placed or those that may be hidden there in the future he replied, that at this time as long as people abide by the established rules for hiding a cache and the areas surrounding them are not damaged he would not view the use of the parks for geocaching any differently than someone using the park for a picnic. In the future if an issue is made about geocaching in the parks he said he would share the information from our discussion with others, including Walter Kalata, so they better understand what geocaching is all about.

I just checked the morning edition of the Post Crescent and there is another front page article about the “Thrashing” of Union Springs Park.

    http://www.postcrescent.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060719/APC0101/607190625/1979

Aside from the author quoting the email i sent about the cache being removed, he apparently didn’t feel it was necessary to contact me and get any other information about my cache or geocaching.

As the owner of the cache at issue I wanted to let everyone know what has happened since yesterday morning. As soon as I was made aware of the problem at Union Springs I immediately archived the cache listing. I then sent an email to the individual who wrote the Post Crescent article and also called the Director of the Appleton Park and Rec Department, who unfortunately was unavailable for the day. In my message I informed both of them that the cache had been archived and that my intention when placing the cache was to introduce people to this unique little park and its history, not to damage it. I am hoping to talk with the director about what has happened within the next couple of days. In addition, I have been in contact with other cachers in the area who have or will be contacting the newspaper and sharing their thoughts and opinions on this matter.

For those of you who were unfamiliar with this cache prior to this incident I have included a couple of links to pictures that I took of the park in August of ’05 when I placed the cache.

On the right side of the first picture is the tree the cache was hidden in. To the left of the well and behind the bench in the left hand corner is where the damage to the flowers supposedly occurred.

The second picture is looking from the road back across the park.

I was planning on attending and since I only have a couple of finds over in that area I would be up for going early and finding some caches.

Did you verify that the baud rate is the same in both Easy GPS and the GPS unit? If they aren’t the data won’t be transmitted to the receiver.

If the baud rate is the same for both and it still doesn’t work check User Waypoints in the Database (Menu > Database > User Waypoints) to see if they were in fact loaded on to the GPS unit. If you find the waypoints you loaded in the “User Waypoints” then you need to set the map up to display them. To do that go to the map screen and do the following: Menu > Map Setup> Enter > Right Arrow Key, and Make sure that the box in front of Waypoints is checked.

If none of the above steps work it could be the cable. Good luck
