  • On the subject of coins….

I am a novice compared to most in the forums…. but I have come across a couple of ways that I think I might go about sharing mine in the future:

    1. Instead of sending the actual coin out to die and disappear, I have seen several people make photos of both sides of their coin and then have it think laminated and send that out to travel.

    2. I have seen wooden coins with these “attached” to them… a wooden version of the coin that can travel.

Seem like nice ways of sharing your coin without really having to put it in harms way….

Now that being said…. I have 2 of the Edmund Fitzgerald coins put out by MiGo… the will not be activated or circulated…. too beautiful of a coin for me to lose….

    KC…

yeah….we went to the first one… and it was on company property at a Papermill…. that one weirded me out even though the cache page said it was putthere with permission…. still too many video camera around 😛

Get to the second and had to fight a attack squadron of mosqitoes… but at least got the find….

went to the third…. waded thru the grass with the Mosquitoes coming in waves… got to the swamp that was GZ and felt faint having gave my two pints of blood and after looking for about 30 minutes for it… looked at my pup and said…..forget it… I’ll take the DNF….

Walked back the 3/4 mile swatting at critters the whole way… and got into the A/C of the van with MommaCache and she looks at me…. and say “How about DQ?” and that friends was the end of that….

Never even made it thru the swampy mess to cache 4….

Highlight of the day was watching Rocky the geodog wear out asoft serve cone… you’d think my boy had never had ice cream before… it was special 😆 😆 😆

I had a long meeting this afternoon and decided to take along MommaCache and Rocky the geodog…. did the meeting then decided to go caching…. should have just went straight to Dairy Queen and cut my losses. Found 1 outta 4 that I went after…

    hehehehehehe

Found more ticks then I did caches 😆

I have to say ditto on

    People’s back yards…

Coming from TN originally where people use
shotguns to protect backyards… this kinda
    cache weirds me out…

Well in honesty… I had a freshly charged set of rechargeables at home and thought I was ok for the GPS… hahahaha

The Palm Treo on the other hand, is a older cellphone that I converted over to use for paperless caching (phone part of it doesn’t even work anymore). It is wonderful for caching info…. but I only have a wall charger at home… no car charger… so when that went dead….it’s dead til I get home and charge it again…

Spent time after logging my caches this morning scouring eBay… looks like I can get a car charger for the Treo for about $10 — hit Buy it now— wait a couple weeks… and that won’t be a problem again 😆 😆 😉

I recently pulled a “coin” from a cache that was kinda clever. The owner of the coin has posted a image of what the coin looks like in the trackable area…. but upon retrieving it… it’s a circle of wood roughly twice the size of the original with copies of the coin adhered to each side along with its tracking number etc. See two things in this:

    1. It’s size being larger makes it something that is say a lil bulkier so noone is going to hang on to it and keep it.

    2. He gets to keep his original coin which he is pretty proud of BUT he still gets to let it travel too…

For me I would have liked to seen the original cause it was a cool coin… but I understand his motives and I’ll happily move on his wood replica 🙂

    Bartrod:

Thanks for the invitation… would love to come up to Oconto and do some caching at some point! And I agree with you that it is sad that coins get “collected” by some… I just found a interesting alternate the other day in a cache that I found… the item was a round piece of wood that the owner had attached photocopies of his coin to… Much larger than a regular coin. I suppose it was his way of keeping his “real” coin but still letting his coin go out and travel. Neat concept… but think the real coin would have been much prettier to see…

…..and I have read the posts on geocaching.com about the uglier a TB is the better it travels… Don’t want to have to make mine hideous to get it move a few miles 😛

    Thanks for the insight!

    JimandLinda,

It’s not the first time that things were not where they were supposed to be… and I have gotten past the dissapointment… Just wondered if me posting was the correct solution in the cache logs… and worried that maybe it was just a problem in this area….

I must admit that I have been putting together a theme cache that I would like to hide in the Clintonville area… but I worry that the trackables I would put in it or even the container itself might go AWOL. I started it almost a year and a half ago… and still haven’t placed it yet… hoping for a good spot or idea area to place it…

    My first travel bug:

Perhaps… it is merely a version of Live and Learn 😛
