Several weeks ago I reserved a lakeside campsite on Rock Island for this same weekend, so I’ll plan to paddle over and say “hi” again this year.
I look forward to seeing you paddle over to the group site! Welcome!

Let me know…
we only had the one warming spell, so the ice is still fine, although we should do it in the next two-three weeks. It’s only about 1/2 mile from shore to shore…
I’ve heard weird things about shoals and such which made the trip seem a little risky without having someone along who was familiar with the layout.
However, K0rpl expressed in interest in hiking over to Horseshoe Island (which is located off of Peninsula State Park) but I haven’t confirmed with him. It’s a much shorter walk. Justin?
Yes, we are at the same group site as last year, GS-II.
I did try to reserve the other group site, GS-I, but it was already taken. Individual sites are also plentiful, but nobody’s ever complained about staying at the group sites. They’re wooded, secluded, and just right. The link to the video on youtube is:

Though I will say that we do not XC ski often any more, so aren’t the fastest.
Don’t worry, I’m not a dedicated skiier either, so it’ll be an easy pace with lots of breaks for water and trail mix. I’ll ask my source of island info. if skis or snowshoes are more appropriate for the trip.
Which brings up the age-old question about highway maps and topo maps, why can’t users easily upload new road information (such as Hwy. 57 from Green Bay to Sturgeon Bay) park trail maps and other points of interest to Garmin so others can download current detailed trail information? Grrr… I like Garmin hardware, but their software, lack of timely updates, and the way they treat customers can be frustrating…
Yes, I find it especially galling that even if you buy a BRAND-NEW Garmin you are not entitled to free map updates. If it has last year’s maps, get out your credit card…
you need to be more specific; the first generation iPhone does NOT have built-in GPS; the new second generation iPhone DOES have built-in GPS, which opens up more possibilities…

There’s a program called Cachemagnet that can convert your GPX data files so that each cache is a separate “note” on your iPod. Here’s a link to a youtube video demonstrating it with a Nano:

This means you need to be a premium member to get the pocket queries CacheMagnet needs. I suppose there’s ways to do it on the cheap with .loc files, and there are, I believe, different ways to do it, depending on if you’re a Mac user or Windows user. Or Linux.
best of all, cachemagnet is free.
iPod Touch/iPhone is a different beast, but still doable. Google it.
let us know on this thread if you try it out, and how it works.

Use an iPod. Any one (but a shuffle) should work.
09/15/2008 at 3:23 am in reply to: Why not combined effort to map ALL state park hiking trails? #1895954I would think people would want trail data that they could somehow overlay on top of the maps they already have, not force people to switch from their standard highway maps (which already have much State Park road information) to a different map which only has trail tracks and PoI. I would also want it to actually show up as a trail, not just breadcrumbs.
Perhaps a closer look at how our snowmobiling brethren have handled it…
I also agree that county parks and SNA’s would be useful information, but would make those a secondary priority.
Have any other geocaching groups attempted such a feat? No use reinventing the wheel if another group has solved this.
An interesting problem, though; hmmm…
So in England, would having spring fever be referred to as having some sort of vernal disease?

If you Google “wisconsin gps trail data” you can see that snowmobile enthusiasts have done this exact thing for snowmobile trails…
Good discussion;
I suppose the proper title should have been “Enough with the LAME micro caches!” -
