So it is written…
So shall it be.
June 23, 24, 25 (the weekend AFTER Father’s Day and the weekend BEFORE the July 4th weekend)
It’s too bad a weekend didn’t magically materialize that EVERYONE could attend, but that almost never happens.

Here’s what I have from last year’s attendees:
Greyhounder: likes June 23, 24, 25 (can’t do Father’s Day Weekend)
Cathunter: likes June 23, 24, 25 (can’t do Father’s Day Weekend)
AstroD-Team: likes June 16, 17, & 18 (only one that works?)
Geoffnsara: Any weekend (new people)
TS: any weekend
Matter23: likes 16,17,18, but didn’t dismiss other dates
DC Explorer: Either weekend
Really, I’m not lost: NOT Father’s Day Weekend, no other preference known
PCfrog: no preference givenSo, it looks like June 23, 24, 25 is the frontrunner date. Any songs of praises or lamentations before we make this the official date?
Since the two group sites are different sizes (one holds 60 and one holds 80) yet are the same price, I would probably vote for reserving the larger site to give us more room. It also is the one closest to the dock.
I believe last year, that is where the Boy Scouts were staying who were doing reconstruction to the lighthouse.
Dogs are allowed at the group sites, and campsites 20-35. I believe Geopoo had a good time. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=1ecdc46a-cce3-41a2-aabf-1d4021ebeb55

I seem to recall the group sites are pretty spread out, so those seeking a bit of isolation can be somewhat removed from the picnic tables and fire rings. I don’t think anybody will mind some late-night conversation and adult beverages.
I did email everybody (I believe) that went with us last year. I’ll give everybody a week or so after the holidays to check in, and then I’ll email again.
Here’s a list of characters, sorted somewhat by loose affiliation and/or camping partners:

Of course, the main expense is ferry boat fees.
We haven’t heard from everyone, but I haven’t heard a burning desire from anyone to move it into July or August. Would anyone actually PREFER a July/August timeframe, or is everybody pretty happy with a June date, work schedules permitting?
Group II holds up to 40 people. It costs $80 per night, plus a $10 reservation fee, for a total of $170, which we would divide by the number of parties sharing the site.
If people wish to reserve their own individual site, the cost would be $12 per night, $10 reservation fee, for a total of $34.
To break even on the group site, five parties would need to share the cost to make it the same price as an individual site. ($170 divided by 5 = $34 each)
I really loved the waterside campsite, but TS will tell you it can backfire if it’s a windy weekend.
Bec, is it possible to switch rotations so you could attend?
Possible June weekends:
June 16, 17, & 18 (Father’s Day Weekend)
June 23, 24, 25 (weekend before Fourth of July)
Anything earlier runs into school still being session…
First thing, we need to pick a weekend.
Secondly, we need to decide if we should reserve one of the two group sites, or have DIY campsites, like last year.
Last year, it was on Father’s Day Weekend, which worked out for me, as it was late enough for school to be out, and early enough to avoid the peak season crowds, which was needed since we all had different camp sites.
If we move the campout into July or August, we will almost certainly need to use a group site to ensure accommodations for all, as the campground is pretty much at full capacity during that period.
Thoughts?

So I’ve learned a few things:
1. It’s OK to collect cards
2. Actual business cards (like a Realtor or car salesman) that aren’t Geo-cards and aren’t a trinket should be pulled due to their commercial nature.
3. Cards would be less annoying if they were or rubber-banded or paper-clipped together
4. Have the geocaching web site address on the cards as well to hand out to trolls and mugglesPerhaps the solution is to put a picture of a Jeep travel bug on all cards. Then they would be of more value to everyone.
It seems there’s two distinct kinds of pro-card people:
1. People that enjoy finding the cards of their geo-friends in their caches and when they are caching in remote areas.
2. People that collect the cards from cachers. If they find a card that they don’t already have, they take it.
Kind of interesting, no?
They would also be more tolarable if they had a famous quote or joke printed on them, and not just the cacher’s name and home city. Or even a bad pun like the old Bazooka Joe gum wrappers.
Make it fun to read.
