Glad to see your OK. Be safe.
I agree, I don’t think that cachers were the ones responsible for the trash… but I do think they were responsible for the food items, matches, etc.
I agree. Lately I’ve been finding junk and food items in the caches. Over the last two weeks I’ve removed bubble gum, lolli pops, lifesavers, rusted fishing hooks, rusted fishing lures that were just thrown in that I almost stabbed myself with, matches, a lighter and a knife. Also, when I was in St. Cloud (glad it wasn’t WI) I found a cache that was completely full of garbage. It had smashed cups from McDonald’s, burger wrappers, cigarette packages, etc. On each of these, I removed the offending items and replaced them with good stuff that I picked up when a store was going out of business. It’s bad when I open a cache and find garbage, but it’s even worse when I imagine my nephews opening the cache and finding junk. If we can’t stock it with good stuff for us adults, at least think of the little kids.
Can you guarantee it won’t rain? 🙁
Sure, if I could figure out how to post pictures.
Winners are announce!!!!! “Old” won a mountain bike!!!! I wonder if he knows how to ride a bike?!? I know he can’t swim. I guess we will just have to wait to find out.
We asked for the coin when we stopped in to get the gas card and they said that we get the coin when we turn in the passbook. I asked them how we get the coin if we sent in the passbook and they said that they would mail it back right away. We ended up turning it in before we left and again had to ask for the coin. They looked around and found it, so we got it before we left. It seems that the volunteers they have working there have no clue as to what is going on with the whole event. The first time we were there, they didn’t even know the event was going on. My suggestion would be to call the visitors center and explain that you turned your passbook in and did not get the coin. I’m sure they would be happy to send you one.
Some of the caches from the Chippewa Valley Event are now listed on geocaching.com as new caches. Just an FYI.
😀
I attach a tag with the date, cache name and coordinates to whatever I pick up. I have buckets of treasures to enjoy.06/17/2006 at 3:24 am in reply to: Perplexed by puzzle caches?? Meet and greet being planned #1762567Hey, you don’t have to wait for an event to work on puzzle caches. I’m near you… you can always shoot me an e-mail and I’ll be glad to help you on them if I can.
I marked our calendar. As of now, we will be there.
I’m all for a challenge, but I don’t know about the softball. Old will definitely not be able to play and I really, really, really stink at the whole baseball/softball thing. Maybe something like horseshoes, croquet or bocci for the slower folks.
What is caching to me?… Self inflicted torture (sometimes), a chance to meet people who are just as crazy as me (not often enough though), a chance to spread the joys of nature with others I have talked into going out on the trails with me (still not often enough), relaxing (if I turn the ringer on the cell phone off), but most of all… caching is an adventure that I can embark on whenever I please without having to ask anyone’s permission and without explanation. I do not have to have someone with me to enjoy the trip and often I would rather be on my own to discover the little things… frogs, spiders, deer and yes, even badgers. (I still don’t like the ticks!) It is a time for me to think about life and a time to make important decisions without the pressure of others. Over the last two or so years that I have been caching, I have learned to slow down a bit and enjoy things. Enjoy what you find today and discover all you can, for there may not be a tomorrow.
Only seven more caches to find!!! Only fell down one steep hill, leading to the river. Managed to stop before I reached the river. After a couple days for the holes in my leg to heal, I’ll be back to finish these. I will not give up!!!!! 😀
