  • in reply to: Let Them Eat (Pan)cake(s)! #1763350

sorry, 8am is just too early for us. what about pancakes for lunch? it is so great not worrying about the numbers anymore. we get to stop for lunch and visit and eat and eat.

in reply to: Reading your cache logs #1763398

i tend to write a better log when i haven’t gone on a massive hunt for the day, and gotten the finds jumbled up in my head.
i recently received a reply to a log where i posted a NF, telling me that the cache was there and pretty much where it was. i will go back and recheck this one, thanks to the nice note from the owner.
i read all the logs on my own caches and tbs, and send notes back when called for.

in reply to: Caches Along a Route #1762948

i logged onto GC today to check a PQ and the new link for caches along a route was there. along with instructions. when looking at it, i saw all the routes posted by the cheeseheads. nice work. this should make traveling and caching a lot easier.

in reply to: CountyCount 1.0 #1762711

just downloaded your program. it is excellent! i have always wanted to see where in the state i have been, but could never take the time to break it down. of course, now i see some white spaces and know i will have to head to those counties to fill them in. and i was just getting over the addiction.

down south works much better for me. i’d even take off of work to attend. i’ll keep watch for that one.
by the way, i did a search on the mystery caches from my home coords. i got something like 75 in a 100 mile radius from hales corners. i’m working on some, and some i just figured were too hard, so i put them on the ignore list. with a bunch of people helping, i’d be able to put them back on the todo list.
    great idea!

in reply to: Puzzle Event #1762471

there are puzzles and then there are puzzles. i love solving the ones that have some sensibility to them, math, logic. but the puzzles that have no earthly clue (like pictures of people)–forget it.

in reply to: Newbies, and placing caches #1761737

2 more cents. we had a good example near my home of why it would be good to wait to place the first cache. it was put in a local park and very quickly was muggled, thrown into the lagoon. the cacher who placed it seems to have gotten mad and quit the game. we all learn that caches disappear, and it is just part of the game. but that cache sat there on the listings and the owner couldn’t be contacted. if there was a waiting period, at least we’d know the cacher was going to stay with it for awhile.

in reply to: eMap / MapSource question #1741355

i don’t know if it’s the same thing, but when i didn’t check that little box for my 60cs, none of the small roads loaded for a trip to florida. it was very hard just using the base map.

this sounds like my kind of fun. i have mornings free and am located in hales corners. there are still caches i haven’t done in the milw/waukesha/racine area. contact me at djwini at wi dot rr dot com

in reply to: stop notification from gc.com? #1741262

this is my own geocoin, that i am using as a record of caches that i go to this year. i searched the coins page and there really doesn’t seem to be a way to not get notified about its logs.

in reply to: GC.com server problems? 3/31/06 #1761248

i always think it is worse when there are a lot of events and people logging all those finds. i waited until monday to log my stuff from the weekend geoegg thing. and yes, i did have trouble dropping bugs. i also hit that server down thing yesterday. i really wish they could get a separate server for the paid members. it would make it just that much easier for people to fork over the measly $30 a year.

in reply to: New web site a beauty #1761262

i’m on the b test team. coming back to this “old” site after browsing on the new one is a major bummer. you guys are gonna love it!!!!!i
i had no trouble finding my way around (well, as long as i read stuff before i clicked on it) and some of the new features are going to make life easier.

we met the hemisphere dancers on the trail at the “eggstore”. that location is very easy walking compared to some of the caches i have been on. just be careful if you are carrying your daughter. tripping and falling is also a part of geocaching.

in reply to: routing not working #1741217

argh. when i went to reload the wisconsin maps, i saw this tiny, tiny check box at the bottom of the screen, that asked if i wanted to load the routing capability for the map. i’m guessing i didn’t do this for florida and that’s where the trouble came in. it changed the file size for the wisconsin maps, so it must be loading something extra. probably all those turns that i needed. thanks for the help
