i really wish i had one of those cool stories about my name. but i have been djwini in all my incarnations on chat rooms and email since i started computing. it comes from D onna J ean WINI arski, so when you say it, it is deejay wini, not all mushed up like some have tried to make it. ha!
i still wish there was a way to log the event caches separately from the event. then we could have an accurate count of events, and caches. it’s too bad there can’t be 1 cache at the event for logging all the temps.
djwinii even put a little icon on the tool bar in GSAK for cachemate. all i have to do is click the icon and away we go…
caching with my hubby is a great together time.
caching with my geo-dog lucky is just a great walk
caching with my caching buddies is usually reserved for the harder hunts, when we can find time to get together
caching alone is something i will do if i have to, but as a woman, alone in the woods is not really a good place to be in these times.i got it to work, but don’t see the value in it. it shows the caches when i zoom in, but the streets are very blurry. i thought you were supposed to be able to see cars and houses and streets. to me it is just another fun toy, but not something i am going to use.
(Isn’t there a t-shirt out there that says something like, I use million dollar government satellites to find tupperware in the woods.)
i’d love to find that tshirt
it’s also important to decide if you want people to be able to find your hide. i’ve always thought that is the point of hiding a cache. you will need to average the coordinates of the location. it’s amazing how much “x marks the spot” can move from one visit to the next.
we only waited a couple of months to place our first cache, but we did do some finding first.
good luck with your hides. and keep in mind the muggle factor, you want them found by cachers, not by casual walkers or kids.duh, i didn’t see his email address. guess it pays to read all the way to the end.
i have mapsource and i can’t find any county lines on the maps. how do i get them to show up?
if you’d like to come along on a morning geocache, i’d love to take you.
djwini
contact djwini at wi dot rr dot comis there an easy way to figure out where the caches you have done previously are?
i don’t have the kind of memory to even tell you about a cache i did last week, like some of my geofriends, who can tell you the placement and type of containers they did a year ago. but we did use geocaching to plan our trip to hawaii this year, just to see some out of the way places that the normal tourist never sees. when we travel, we plan geocaches to break up the trip, and get to see a little of the area we are drivng thru, instead of just getting toa destination. and then there are the parks near home that while we don’t always go back to visit them, now i know they are there.
djwinii agree with sweetlife. sometimes those tags just fall off with handling. so i have put a new tag and a new bag on a tb with a goal.
i make my tags with a wood square with the goal woodburned onto it. no paper and no bags to worry about, and the finder can tell right away what to do with it.we released a bug at our 500th cache find. two people found the cache before auntie visited and listed the bug as not there. i emailed the two people before her and one replyed that there was no bug. the other person didn’t reply. hmmmm wonder if they took the bug?
unless i am with a group of people, i won’t attempt a multi with more than 4 stages. i am most likely not to find the last stage and will have wasted the time i spent looking. i don’t mind logging a no find for a single where i spend under a half hour. but if i have spent more than an hour on a cache, i want to log a find. however, many people like the challenge of a well done multi. don’t change because of wussy’s like me.
