i just found a way to have GSAK print the hints. i’m paperless sortof. i usually print a sheet of caches and use the palm to read the hints if i need them. but now i can use GSAK for the list and the hints. 1 sheet of paper! and by doing a quick read thru before i go, i can find the ones with bogus clues. and i won’t remember which clue goes to which cache, so it’s like not using the clues!

by archiving those long disabled caches, we would also be opening up that area to new caches. my vote goes to fix it and get it back up, or it’s out.
by the way, i just read a log by a cache owner that said his cache had been taken by the police in association with a robbery. the cache was not even disabled.well, i tried using old batteries, and the darn thing started right up. but since garmin was good enough to give me an rma number, and auntinae loaned me her spare gpsr, i sent mine off to garmin to get checked out. and maybe they will replace the scratched up window. well i can hope, can’t i
well, sorry, i don’t like the finders tree method. i don’t like being laughed at for not finding a cache someone else thinks is obvious, and i don’t have the greatest vision, or the best ability to find small sneaky hiding spots. when our group finds a cache, we share the find. however, we do try to hide it from the next group.
the finders tree method is just one way to hunt as a group, and needs to be voiced at the start, as in “how does your group announce a find? the finders tree method, or a quick hootie hoo.the easiest river in that area is the little fox. but there aren’t any caches on it. there are however, caches in mukwonage, and that is near the put in for canoes (on hwy 83)
if it’s not blazing hot or mosquito feasting time, i like to read the cards. it’s especially nice to see one from someone i’ve met, or someone not from our area.
i did try using different batteries, but i’ll try the charged and used method. i have the return authorization from garmin, and even tho i bought it in may of 04, they are still going to run it under warranty. how’s that for a great company?
the etrex doesn’t have the waas technology, but i believe the legends do. i have the 60c because i wanted the maps and the bigger screen and it works better than the etrex did. but in a comparison between garmin and magellan at one group outing, i have to admit that the magellans were better that day. but on other days, the garmin comes out ahead. and under heavy tree cover, none of them are very good.
when i was into logging more and higher numbers, i would have gone with the folks who want multiple logs for events. but something happened this summer after i hit 500. it just doesn’t seem to really matter. i like attending the events and finding the different types of caches, but it is so hard to stop before finding them all. i think with only logging the event once, i’d be able to stop before i ended up limping for the next week.
my hubby is taking a day job, so i’ll be looking for a new caching partner this fall. maybe we could hook up. i haven’t done a lot of caches out your way.
djwiniwell, i lost two caches in about a month, and both of them have survived over a year. and i see that swordmaster has lost his new one–that i haven’t even had a chance to go and hunt yet. these are in hales corners and greenfield.
ok that might work. it’s always hard learning new equipment and new software.
thanksgreat, now i can throw out the ripped newspaper that i was planning to scan.
i started looking after i saw kayakache, and wondered if there were more. i guess i’ll make up the list with these as a start.
i just read a review in consumer reports. they are saying it works as well as the 10% deet products they tested against. it cost a little more, but smelled and felt better. i’d try it but i just bought a giant can of 29% deet stuff, mostly for ticks. i hate ticks. after pulling one off my stomach a couple of weeks ago, my caching has been cut way back.
