ok, that means everybody better go out to candles in the wind and trade the candles out of it. (i’m hoping there aren’t a lot of them left)
i was looking for some manly trade items one time and thought those utility knives would be great. but i was wrong.

in reply to: why are PQ’s in zip archive format #1749584

just found out it is the firewall with mailsafe option messing this up. but i’m pretty sure it can be fixed easily. will check when i get home tonite.

    in reply to: Plucker #1749646

i love getting new software. and then learning how to use it. now if i just had the time to go out caching!!

    in reply to: Plucker #1749642

i just picked up cachemate after reading this thread. i like the ease of use. i also like that you can enter a note to it. that lack made me decide not to go paperless. now i might rethink that option. the only drawback so far that i have found is the need to scroll to a WP. with plucker, there were lists of letters to chose to get close to the one you want.

not zone alarm but a derivative–ezfirewall/antivirus free from roadrunner. i just did an upgrade so maybe that’s where it came from. i’ll check. thanks
and i’m only going to post it once

in reply to: Secrets of Stonehaven – Post Event News/Info #1737934

this was my first “beam” i just did it cuz i thought it was cool. i still like using paper copies to write notes on about the caches because the mind just doesn’t retain info anymore, and the pda is just too much trouble to take out all the time.

in reply to: L.O.T.E.C. thoughts #1749277

just checked out the linked lotec moga page. we cached with brawny bear at the stonehaven event. and i see some of our cachers used that page to log. i like that idea. and no matter how much the purists say it’s not about the numbers, it is too about the numbers. or no one would ever check the stats on the house of brew web page. and think of the poor people who have to get all that email from the event page. wouldn’t it be nice to have a dead-letter office for all the logs on those events?

in reply to: Members Only #1749555

i’d love to see more members only caches to go hunt for. kind of like an extra bonus cache that not everyone gets to go out for.

in reply to: Travel Bug Frustration #1748994

“TB’s do attract cachers to a area.” all depends on the cache. i have a bug that was stuck out in oregon all winter in a cache that no one ever goes to. it finally got picked up and moved to a puzzle cache that sounds as hard as baffled and bewildered.
and if i find a bug with a goal, and no tag, i make one to help the next finder know that it had one. sometimes the tags get separated from the bug. not mine, they are all wooden plaques

in reply to: Why so many, why so tricky? #1749797

3 cents worth: since i have wiped out most of the caches locally and have to drive to a new location to go caching, i do like to have a decent concentration in the area to search for. i very seldom look for degree of difficulty before i search (no wonder i am sometimes frustrated). if the concentration is part of a group, so be it. if they are singles, that is good too. i don’t like the difficult multis, i figure if i miss one WP i have wasted all the effort of the hunt. and even if the cache contains just trinkets, i like a box large enough for trade items and a decent log book. the little bits of rolled paper just don’t do it for me. and truthfully, i really don’t like searching for micros–i mean with the accuracy of these gps’s usually not closer than 10-15 feet it always feels like finding a needle in a haystack.

isn’t it fun hitting the milestones? and then you look ahead at the leaders and go, “well if i keep at it, i can hit those numbers too”

thanks, i didn’t know anyone was keeping tabs on me other than me. we had to push for that one extra yesterday to hit the 400, and of course there was a river involved and us on the wrong side of it.

in reply to: Magellan Explorist #1759252

we have the magellan explorist 200 that we won at a geo outing. the very worst thing about it is there is no cable for uploading coords. they all have to be manually entered. and the tiny joystick type button is always getting pushed the wrong way. it is very frustrating to use. but on the good side, i think it tends to be more accurate than my garmin 60c. if you are getting the 600 make sure you can upload to it.
