Well said! I agree completely! 😉
Ive been watching the Forum discussions for a while now- So far, I have to admit I don’t really see what the point is.
It seems like nothing more than a points of interest database to me.
I already have one of those in my CitySelect program- and it doesn’t take up any of my 500 waypoints to load it into my GPSr.
Just out of curiosity, I just checked all the caches for the state of Wisconsin-
I remember hearing that there was approximately 80 WJTB given out for distribution in WI
out of those 80 Jeeps, There are 15 showing in cache pages.
out of those 15:
3 are in event pages, so they are unavailable, leaving 12 in actual caches.
Of those 12 caches, 8 have logs saying that the Jeep is missing, leaving 4.
Of those 4, one is in an archived cache, leaving a whopping 3 out of 80 that MIGHT be still in the caches- that is unless they have been stolen already and nobody has mentioned it in their logs.
I would rather that people just use them the way they are meant to be used, rather than trying to “improve” the regular system. By droping them into a cache and not logging them in, it just makes them more likely to be stolen when they are found.

I (and others) suggested it in the Ridiulous numbers thread that popped up after the campout. Here was Jeremy’s response:

I know what I was suggesting was adding an option when logging on an event page in the drop down list like “Event Cache Found” or something similar. When it shows in our stats it could have a different icon for caches found at events.No. No temporary caches. No special log type. No “count” find for caches found during an event. I don’t know how much clearer I need to be.

He doesn’t seem interested in resolving the issue. It seems that he would rather have the forum angst come up every time it happens.
His responses in that thread he statwed that he felt it was “trivial” “stupid” and “selfishness”, yet he refuses to come down firmly on one side or another.
I think he somehow enjoys the angst, since he could easily put a stop to it one way or another if he wanted, yet lets the debate rage on.
We aren’t going to get any help there.
I think I made my feeling pretty clear after the Campout in the CG.com forum thread.
To me, it is simple- If I enter coordinates in my GPSr, navigate to those coordinates, find a cache, and sign the log (or stamp the book) I found a cache, and should be able to log it. It doesn’t matter if it is a 5 mile hike, a walmart parkinglot micro, or a cache at an event.
The main difference I see between the people that are complaining and the ones in favor of it is that the ones complaining are worried about somebody elses stats. Why should they be able to determine how somebody else does their stats? I think they should worry about their own stats, and leave everybody else alone.
I’m not about to tell somebody they have to log something if they don’t want to- it is their stats, they can log however they want. They should give me the same consideration.

Nope. The only mapping software that will work with any GPSr is the software sold by the manufacturer of the GPSr.
For Garmin, that means Mapsource products.
For Magellan I think it is Mapsend?
For your price range, the best bang for the buck is the Garmin GPS V.
It goes for just over $200, and comes with Garmin’s Citselect software.
Almost any other unit you will have to buy the mapping software seperately, for about $100.
I figure that the software runs about $100, the car power cable and car mount would have cost me another $50, so that is $150 in accesories that I would have had to buy with any other unit.
That means that I essentially got an autorouting GPSr for $50.

http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum1/HTML/000700.htmlId be glad to help out- I am in Boyd, about 12 miles from Wissota.
Whew!
You smooshed your grandsons feet into an altoids tin?!
That poor little boy, trying to walk around with no feet!
Thanks for the support, but I seem to be fighting a losing battle.
Jeremy has gone from his earlier posts where he said it was approriate to log the caches on the event page, to saying it is “stupid” and Selfish”.
The thread started out complaining about “fake” logs, then when it was explained that they were not fake to “too many logs”, then to no logs at all.
Now thay are trying to say we shouldn’t have temp caches at all, because “somebody else might do it without permission”.
At the rate they are going, they will be banning Geocaching as a whole by the end of the weekend because “somebody might do something wrong”
Will the new board have some of the funtions like member profiles, PMs, not having to enter your name and password to make a post, etc?
Just another tidbit- There is a John Muir trail in the souther KM forest as well.
John Muir is one of the names mentioned in the first clue.
