  • From what I can tell, maybe you didn’t get your entire face in the pic? And you answered all the questions, including the estimate, right? (I think you said you answered all the questions.)

Maybe because you are the FTF the person is being a stickler about the face in the picture thing so everyone else follows it. That’s all I can think of.

    Good luck!

I might move to Kalatas district just to vote.

Heck, I’m considering moving to his district to run against him. Only thing is, I wonder if I’d have to live above the bar. Too much temptation? 😉

It was very disappointing that not one alderman showed up. Not one. It was also extremely disappointing that the P-C didn’t bother to even send anyone for 5 minutes to even take a quick quote for a story on page 5 of the local section.

That being said, it was very nice to meet other cachers and put names and faces to the team names. The Beast and Marc gave me computer mapping help that I am very grateful for. So although it was a total loss as far as defending ourselves and actually “setting the story straight” with local government and the media, on a personal note it was a nice experience. Definitely not what we all went there to accomplish, but still a nicer morning than watching the rain.

When I first started using the Palm I could switch the battires while out caching and not lose any info. But, now as soon as I remove the battires I lose it all.

I have a Palm III. I switch the batteries quickly, one at a time, and I don’t lose anything. I know with mine the “one at a time” is the key, so there is nearly always a battery in contact.

I’m just thrilled the article made it on the front page. I also noticed that the original reporter didn’t write it–Geocacher burn out? 😉

The description of the notes you found in the cache location really makes me wonder if it’s our friendly Alderman Mr. Walter Kalata that might have been playing ‘mind games’ with you when you were searching for it.

Hopefully we’ll see a better article out of the news paper in the future 😉

The possibility that it was the dear alderman was my first thought.

And I wouldn’t count on that better article anytime soon. I just hope it doesn’t turn into “Geocaching cult invades Old Country Buffet” 😉

    I am calling a foul.

The coordinates are intended to help you find the cache, not to meerly get you in the general vicinity. There is enough error in GPSr readings as it is.

I thought the purpose in hiding a cache was to have it found.

Deliberate error – not cool 🙁

We have come across a few like this as well, and it annoys me. If someone who places the cache gets his/her GPS within 20 feet, isn’t it possible mine gets it within 20 feet of their coordinates that were off? Egads, some of these caches are challenging enough without the “It’s in the park. The park is 10 acres. Go find it” thing going on LOL!

Pound out all sorts of messages and e-mails, but instead of sending them, save them and read them tomorrow. If you still feel that way, then send them.

I agree. I wrote one last night that was scathing. If I would have went by impulse (and after hearing about the second article) it would have been sent. Instead I sat down and sorted out what I think amounted to a well thought out, non-accusatory (OK, maybe a little accusatory) response and sent it. I feel good about the email I sent, and I don’t think I could have said that had I sent the venomous one yesterday. Not that it wouldn’t have been true, but the angel on my shoulder prevailed today. LOL

I just checked the morning edition of the Post Crescent and there is another front page article about the “Thrashing” of Union Springs Park.

He didn’t have to get any more information Mark–he had all he needed to take what you said and add it to the article to make it look like geocachers did it.

I also like that little bit about his home being adjacent to the park. So these flowers aren’t for the park’s benefit, or even the public’s benefit. He needed a garden. 🙁

What annoys me the most is the assumption that because there is a geocache there, geocachers must be responsible for the damage. So if anything goes wrong in another park with a cache in it, according to this article it must be geocachers? 🙄

And as Jeremy said, the article couldn’t be more one-sided. It appears the author went to geocaching.com to find out who runs it. But he didn’t bother to read anything there.

It must have been a slow news day to make the front page. There isn’t enough going on in the world, or even in the area with layoffs, etc. We’d better print an article about the evil Flower wrecking geocachers who belong to the cult run by the organization known as Groundspeak 😉

My thought was to plant a bunch flats of flowers, almost to the point of being ridiculous. 😈

I might stop over there to view the “destruction” myself.

My mom’s idea was that each one of us go over there and drop off a plant, and ask him what he’s going to do with them now? We could each drop off a flat Miata! 😉

I did this cache in the winter, so I didn’t have to worry about flowers. Just snow. I didn’t know this park existed until Crazy Buzzard’s cache. Which is one of the biggest things I love about geocaching–I find things in the area I grew up in for 30 years that I never knew were there.

It’s always possible that cachers stepped on the flowers–possible, but not likely. We all know there are a few “bad apples” in every bunch, no matter what you are talking about. My 3 year old and 6 year old know better than to step on flowers, but no matter…

But dig them up??? I’m not buying it. I am wondering what was witnessed and what was “deducted” from “Hey, there’s a geocache there Ald. Kalata! Maybe they did it”

It also needs to be taken into consideration that this little park is in the back parking lot of a bar and liquor store downtown.

I just read the article and I will begin writing letters shortly, including one to the Post Crescent. Maybe I’ll offer to take the Alderman out with us one day. Then he can see what our sport/hobby/obsession is about. And see we don’t dig up flowers to do it.

I pointed out Walla Hi Multi to my husband last night–he thinks we have to work up to it. But I just really want to see a White Jeep…HAHAHA!

I’d love to see the next person who cracks Jeff’s cache take a picture of that Jeep so I can see it–I think that may be as close as I get to one!
