I drove from northwestern Wisconsin all the way down to Iowa City today (and picked up 31 caches!) I went from winter (people were still driving on my lake yesterday) to finding the first robins around Hudson, first red-wing blackbirds around River Falls, first ducks around Lacrosse, and then even my first spring peepers around Iowa City.
Spring is coming! I’m glad I left the snow behind. I hope to see it all gone by the time I get back from a medical refresher course down here (where I had done my residency).
Someone also posted a note about finding one at one of my caches on Sunday.
Perhaps it’s a sign of spring (even though we are expected to get ~8 inches of snow today). 🙄
GCXXRB – Blessed be the Rock
I loved finding this one last fall. The sign by the parking area itself was educational. Good Luck with your run! I still need lots of pages myself!

I like this one but how about Red and white since that the official state colors think, and not just the UW colors.
…. and I always thought the official colors were green and gold! 😛
I’ll be helping set up the cache at Wild River State Park. It would be nice to have a similar event in Wisconsin.
You need to post the exact coordinates to the shelter in Lions Park. The reviewers will automatically deny it because it is in the Riverway. However, if you can get the tract numbers (contact the new ranger from the NPS), it should be easy to get approved as that park is owned by the City of St. Croix Falls and not by the NPS.
I didn’t get the e-mail from him about this. I wonder if it got caught by my spam filter. Unfortunately, I will be in Iowa April 1st attending a medical refresher course (where I finished my residency).
BTW, Trail Zombies from the Wyoming area has also volunteered to help out.
Our meeting tonight went well. emtcop and myself represented the geocaching community. Besides the guy from the Park and Rec Board, a newly hired seasonal NPS ranger was also in attendance.
It looks like this event will be a go. More details will follow. The proposal will go in front of the entire Park and Recs Board tomorrow.
Only about 6 inches around us. We haven’t seen any serious melting yet, but we missed almost every one of the big snowstorms.
I made contact today. There will be a organizational brainstorming meeting this coming Tuesday at the Buzz (next to the post office on Main Street) at 6pm. Anyone interested in attending is welcome to come. I’m going to try to attend.
He has already made contact with emtcop from Osceola. He has tried but has been unsuccessful contacting Beadelake Crew. I am not sure if gpsjunky will be able to help.
The piece of property involved is the large hill to the west of Lions Park on the north side of town. The event is tentatively scheduled for June 7th. After a plan is developed, he plans on approaching the Chamber of Commerce to obtain some prizes. Keep the date open!
I’m a family physician in a small town. I have also just recently been approved to be an adjunct professor of family medicine for the University of Wisconsin @ Madison (which means I will be supervising 4th year students who would travel up here for their education). I’m originally from New York but moved up here to practice in an under served area through the National Health Service Corps (and I’ve stayed 14 years past my commitment).
My wife is a substitute teacher (former journalist/copy editor/librarian).
My kids are full time students (2nd and 5th grades).
My career does require me to stay near home a fair amount of time (where there are very few unfound caches 😥 ). I enjoy geocaching when I travel to conferences instead of just sitting around a hotel. My wife and kids seem to be growing much less passionate about the hobby than I am.
ditto again what zuma said 😀
– and I probably wouldn’t even enjoy critical care nursing puzzle caches unless they were “solvable in a reasonable amount of time” (even if it did include arterial blood gas readings)! 😉
You can message me with the number. St. Croix Falls is about 30 minutes to my south. I can probably help out some but more importantly, I can contact the local cachers down there and get their assistance. Sounds like fun. I think I even know what parcel they are taking about.
Because of daylight savings. I was able to get the last of 17 finds at almost 7:45 pm. The days are truly getting longer and this morning hater likes the daylight at the end of the day.

But there’s no need to worry about cold nights this year mates… with global warming kicking in (six additional years worth of greenhouse gases are now in the atmosphere), I predict we will need to break out the portable air conditioning and swamp cooler units this year. 🙂
That explains why this winter has been so “mild”! lol 🙄
