I can sympathize. I’ve only “found” an event cache in the past 5 weeks. However, this has more to do with Hunting Season and Christmas than to snow. I hope to get out there again after the holidays.

in reply to: Traffic Court #1882012

The only traffic ticket I’ve gotten in the past 15 years was a speeding ticket I got in my home town of Grantsburg. There was a new young zealous cop who gave me a ticket for going 41 in a 25 zone. I was guilty so I just paid the fine.

However, in order to keep all the fine money (rather than sharing it with the county) I was actually charged with disorderly conduct (with speeding listed only when you look deeper) so my public record now has that charge. The county DA was surprised that I hadn’t hired a lawyer as lots of charges are written off. The police officer (who was eventually fired by the town within a few months) thought he was doing me a favor. I would rather have had the points on my driving record rather than the disorderly conduct.

I would probably show up in court to better understand any ramifications of any charges. You obviously have shown remorse. There is a good chance that you can get a lighter (or no) fine. At the least you will have a better understanding of the court process in case you ever have to go to court again.

Dem nobrothergoodinlaws from Illinois can stay in Illinois!

Ditto – the only difference being that the great majority of the out-of-state hunters in our area are from Minnesota.

in reply to: An early Christmas oresent…… #1881876

I didn’t comment because I haven’t met Marc_54140. However, I guessed that it wasn’t a baby because if a baby comes a month early it rarely is 7 lbs unless 1) Mom never got an ultrasound and was a month further along than she thought, or 2) Mom was going to have a 9 pound (or larger) baby at term, or 3) the “prematurity” is associated with a shotgun wedding in which Mom was pregnant at the altar (at which point Mom is usually only fooling herself).

It still looks like you got a nice “baby”! 😀

Thanks for all your insights. They have been very helpful! Enjoy your retirement!

in reply to: There needs to be a law that states that….. #1881629

I guess I can be the first one to comment about the extreme accuracy of meteorologists! 🙄

Over the weekend we were supposed to get 10-16 inches and we got 6.
Today, we were supposed to get 3-5 inches and we got another 6 inches.

At least we’re getting snow (which is good for the local economy) after several brown winters. 😀

Thanks to Beadelake Crew and GpsJunky for organizing another great event! We had fun and enjoyed meeting lots of cachers from both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

in reply to: There needs to be a law that states that….. #1881624

We only ended up with about 6 inches. There were some large drifts around so it’s a little hard to tell exactly. At least there was no ice up here. This was a nice start to a hopefully snowier season (and it was enough to get my kids very excited!). 😀

We’re supposed to be getting 10-16 inches up here. We had nothing on the ground but already have about 3 inches from this storm. We were able to go and visit Santa today in Grantsburg with my kids and the snow started while we were there.

We were also able to have our Christmas tree delivered before the storm so I now have to put it up. ……….’tis the season! 😀

Congrats on achieving this milestone. I know you were looking forward to this one! 😀

    Nice achievement! Congrats! 😀

in reply to: Tree Climbing for a cache…Good or bad idea? #1881400

I think geocaching is best when it brings you to beautiful places. If climbing a tree enhances a particular view- go for it. Otherwise it seems somewhat inappropriate as it discriminates against 1) older cachers (I hope I have a few years before this applies to me) as well 2) families with kids.

Update on my post from two months ago, now at 121K after the trip to Washington and another to the Dakota’s last week. Now at 43 states cached in, only 7 to go!

Have fun driving to Hawaii! 😉

I cache with either an Explorer with 37k on it or with a Ford Windstar with 120k.

I’ve done Felsenmeer ridge and would highly recommend it (as well as the Pipestone Quarry and Pipestone Test Pit which were very educational and are accessed from the same parking lot).

The worse part about doing my Crex Meadows series in the springtime are the ticks (which were unusually bad this year) so be prepared for this. The fall is probably the absolute best time for this series. Unfortunately most of our sandhill cranes and other migrants have left the area already. Let me know when you come up here!
