I bought their MetroGuide Mapsource program to install into my GPS and I can’t seem to be able to get the unlock code for the software. I’ve had to make several e-mails and they only seem to be concerned about the fact that I neglected to register my garmin vista gps which I purchased in January (because I tend to not register small electronics as I don’t like to get excessive junk mail) rather than the issue about the software I purchased last month.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I wish I had seen this before. I was down in the LaCrosse area earlier today. I actually hit two caches this morning shortly after Trekkin and Birdin. 😀 I won’t be able to get down that far south again for a while.
The local paper – Burnett County Sentinel, wrote an article after a reporter attended one of my sessions. The article was okay but had a nice picture of my daughter showing how to find a demo cache placed for the talk. Unfortunately, there is not a link to post for non-locals to see. An area geocacher, Team CandyCane from Pine City, MN came over to hear the talk.
@wooden_nickel – e-mail sent – hopefully we can coordinate something
@teamdeejay – Hales Corners is probably too far out of my range after a 5 hours drive just to get to Madison. However, a big ammo box like that would be just what I am looking for – almost a library cache!
This hobby is certainly giving me an education about Wisconsin geography. I’ve lived here for 16 years and don’t recall hearing some of these town names (particularly because our television, radio and newspapers all come form Minnesota). Thank goodness for mapquest!
To see a demonstration of this, watch the ending of the movie “Schindler’s List”. The actual survivors left stones at the grave of Schindler.
I think Appleton will be too far to travel on this trip.
I was hoping for something that can hold at least a dozen different sized books. Looking on-line this might be considered a metal footlocker of medium size or larger (e.g. 29x9x14). However, if Verona is near Madison, I would be happy to buy some regular ammo cans for other caches as I have difficulty finding non-rusty ones up here.
Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely want to try to hit that cache if it will work out with my schedule. I have a one-day conference to attend at the U. I will probably try to take different highways there and back to get some quick wayside caches (and a few more counties and Delorme pages!).
I called Delaney’s and unfortunately, they no longer stock ANY ammo cans and did not anticipate getting any in.
I just got a bronze pin with no difficulties.

I notice Mathman still has not figured it out!
Here’s the formula: 1 + 1 = 3!
I think he figured it out. Using higher level mathematics, he hypothesized that :
a) if traditional: 1+1=3 or
b) if multi: 1+1=4 (or more!) 😉Assuming no outside influences, there is a 1/89 chance that the cache will be a multi.
Let me echo the congratulations! 😀
It would be interesting to see this. However, I’ve had mixed feelings about supporting Necedah as I didn’t feel that it was the best spot for the Whooping Cranes.
When the placement of the cranes was being debated, the biologists recommended Crex Meadows in Grantsburg. It had a larger area, lower powerline densities (a major cause of death for whooping cranes which tend to fly low to the ground), better food supplies, cleaner water (Necedah’s water is contaminated with small amounts of chemicals from the cranberry industry), and less noise pollution (particularly related to jets from Fort McCoy). Our trumpeter swans (which have similar habitat requirements and were successfully reintroduced into the state at Crex Meadows) have average clutch sizes double that of Necedah’s. However, when the decision was made, Necedah was chosen primarily based on politics. Necedah has always been federally managed, while Crex Meadows in managed by the Wisconsin DNR. Since the introduction project is a federal one, the powers that be did not feel that feds and the WDNR could get along. IMO, I don’t think that was really acting in the birds’ best interest.
The only factor that I can see that supported Necedah was that they are 2 1/2 hours closer to the crane biologists from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo.
Sorry to hijack your thread. Have you considered an Earthcache?
I realize that it’s too far a trek for most of you. That’s why I only posted this in the regional forum (as well as to show that I’m doing my part locally to promote geocaching – perhaps we can get another few cachers up this way). Crex Meadows has ~100,000 visitors yearly but most of these are from the Twin Cities (or locals like myself).
Congrats to someone else from northern Wisconsin!
Congrats! A great milestone! 😀
