It would be great if more areas along the St. Croix could be opened up to caching. The only area near me that I could put a cache isn’t the prettiest as it is sometimes used as a hangout by area youth. Glad that that reviewer has had a positive experience with geocaching so far. HoweverMy geocache was not a ammo can as I thought it needed to be smaller because of the kids hanging out sometimes.

Why would anyone want to put out porn in a geocache? How do we get the coordinates to those porn caches? 😉

Glad to have another reviewer! It seemed that the workload was delaying some of my recent cache hides. You guys do a valuable job!

I found this one today. It was easily my favorite of 31 found today as I traveled across the state. I think I found the porcupine pile. A deer hunter seems to have set up shop in the area as there is a salt lick within 20 feet of the cache.

I thought we would be late because it had been so warm. However, this morning much of Burnett county (except around the lakes and other warm pockets) awoke to find our first frost – right on schedule!

The few remaining mosquitoes will be gone very soon. Now our family can start enjoying our hot tub again! 😀

We have very few also. In my experience any heavy rains after ~8/15 tend to not cause a large hatch of mosquito eggs as frost is too imminent this far north. (Our usual first frost is during the second week of September).

I get to battle HotTrot on opening day.

    Good Luck to all!

I don’t think I’ll accept trade offers for now. 😉

Is there a list of the geocaching names for the teams in this league? I hardly recognize any of the names. It would be nice to know who I am playing against.

It looks like there was an autodraft. Did I miss the actual draft?

At least I got LaDanian Tomlinson! 😀

in reply to: Geocaching event in Rice Lake: Sept. 1 – Oct. 21 #1878332

I was in Rice Lake today and was able to find 6 of the entries. I have a copy of the passbook and could make a list of the caches as an on-line list apparently does not exist.

One of the caches didn’t have a code???? 🙄 I am not sure I am that interested in the contest to go back to the caches I had already found. Any idea what the prizes will be?

The lady in the Rice Lake Chamber of Commerce tourism building was very nice and knew exactly what I wanted when I asked.

in reply to: Help Wanted: Turkey Decoy(s) #1878524

I have a few of that sort. However, my wife is going to a scrapbooking retreat that weekend. I have to take care of the kids and she won’t let me drive them that far. 😥

If zuma! or someone else were going to cache up near me in the next several weekends, my turkeys could be available. They’re a little beat up but have the posts and still swivel. However, someone closer probably has the same sort of decoys because turkey hunting is much better in the southern part of this state. Our zone (38) was the farthest north area to hunt turkeys for several years.

The decoys seem to work. I had a hen turkey attack one of my decoys! She continue to knock it and peck at it until it eventually fell over and it stopped moving. I considered getting out to fix it after she left. However, out of the corner of my eye I saw a tom coming in. I left the seemingly dead decoy there and eventually got the tom! 😀

Do you know if all of the event caches have their codes in yet? I was able to hit two caches in Rice Lake today while my wife was shopping. Neither of them had a code in them.

If anyone’s interested, today I also dropped off a neat Hawaii geocoin in Rice Lake.

Showering with e-coli contaminated water is very unlikely to cause illness (unless you are drinking the shower water). Personally, I would just shower with that water and use the bottled water for cooking, toothbrushing and drinking. This will also flush some of the infected water out of your pipes.

The only concern I would have is if your water table is still so high that the added water from a shower would allow further contamination of your water.

    Best of Luck!

Great to see Rice Lake getting a few more caches. The last time I looked at that town there was only a single cache. I will plan on finding some caches near Rice Lake after 9/1.

I bet that this part of the state gets more non-resident geocachers from Minnesota and Michigan than we get from the Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee areas.

….my county also gets the majority of its caching visits from out-of-staters. IMO, out of state membership is a good idea. Lagrac would understand more issues about geocaching in Wisconsin better than most of the membership (myself included). I would even recommend expanding it beyond Delorme challenge completion (e.g. fulfilling several of the following requirements – 10 counties or DeLorme pages, or 50 Wisconsin caches on more than a single trip, or perhaps even 10 posts in the forums).

in reply to: Any TBs looking to hitch a ride to Alaska? #1877020

Thanks to Hayward Cheesehead who offered to send a red jeep TB and two of his own travelbugs up to Alaska. I drove up to Hayward and got to meet him in person a few weeks ago.

I just finished releasing the 3rd one today. I dropped a fishing lure TB off at the base of a mountain overlooking Resurrection Bay in Seward after a whale watch. A second travel bug was dropped off at a tourism center in downtown Seward. The Red Jeep TB was dropped off just off the grounds of the Alaska State Fair in Palmer (about a week before their state fair starts). I’m hoping to drop off the geocoin I got from the Chippewa Valley event up near Denali in a few days.

This has been a great trip so far! 😀
