Hey Bec, did I make your christmas short list this year? 😀
I got shorts for Christmas once!
I’ve had my Nuvi 650 for almost a year now.
I love it.It’s great for the CAR PART of geocaching.
But when I park the car I switch to my handheld. The Nuvi units are great … but I would not consider them rugged enough (or water resistant) … I would never consider taking my Nuvi in the woods.
ahhh … I was starting to wonder how many times you we’re allowed to take 8th grade over again 🙂
I guess depending on what was said about the local banker and principal, you might want to turn THAT over to authorities … especially if it was threatening in any way. If you didn’t have a name it would be meaningless … but assuming you have the RIGHT name, it’s usefull information. However, I wonder if it really is the vandals name, or is it some other person’s name, that they wish to get in trouble.
About the cache … my past experience … sounds like if you keep rehiding the cache, they will keep vandalising it. I would suggest archiving the cache. Either for good … or wait 6 months or more a hide a new version of the cache (maybe a smaller size cache). It’s possible if the vandals stop finding a cache there, they will leave the spot alone. Keep in mind that they likely have a computer, so they can keep an eye on the cache electroncially … everytime you announce the cache is up and running again, they know it’s time to go out and vandalise it again. So a period of “nothing” is your best bet … or give up on the spot all together and just move on.
Another thought … is that EXACT spot important to you. Or could you hide a new cache in a different spot in the general area. If that works, I would recommend a multi-cache or a puzzle … so that if vandals are electronically watching for a cache in the area, they have to do more than just walk up to the area to find it.
Noooo … DRY CACHING … is something you rarely get to do in Wisconsin:
It’s that collective 2 weeks a year, when –
– it’s not snowing on you
– it’s not raining on you
– when you’ve not sprayed your entire body with DEETthanks for showing us the udder side of the coin.

I tried cooking once … I had to toss something too, but it wasn’t the container I cooked in.
At 200′ I’d say just revise the current cache … but it’s your call.
If you do create a new cache and you want to “preserve” the history of the old cache … you can make that history easier to find by mentioning it in the new cache, with a link in the text to the old cache.
I answered “No”, based on what I think you mean by the question in it’s purest form.
I have on two occasions retired a cache and placed one somewhat similar in a nearby area … in one case it was about 400 feet away, with a different approach to the same point of interest, in another case I shut down a series of caches and replaced it with a single cache more or less in the middle of where the group sent you. But I think this is different enough to make my answer “no”.
In the first case, I couldn’t keep the cache working in it’s original location, it always went missing. In the second case, the cache had a great 2+ year run, but was a bit involved for the average cacher, so I switched to a single cache to free up space for others to hide caches, yet still attract people to one of my favorite places.

What kind of mistakes on the multi? We’re about to put one out and think we’ve got it OK, but maybe not(?). We have done 150 caches and have put out 5. We haven’t run into any problems finding the multis but we’ve read logs where a waypoint goes missing. (Sorry if this is off-topic.)
Not really a direct mistake BECAUSE it was a Multi … actually not really Multis now that I think about it. I hid a series of caches in Pleasant Valley Nature Preserve (southwest of Saukville, WI) a few years back … 3 regular caches, to find a mystery 4th. Turns out that 2 of the 4 were too close to someone else’s cache and another was on private property (no real way of knowing it, I believe a utility owned right-of-way that was off limits to the public by about 25′ with no markings). It was a mess … but turned out to be a cool series … after I de-messed it.

Sorry, I’m past my kitten-bearing years.

I consider my son and I to be “noobs” at this yet (we’ve got 18 finds since April when we started), and due to my self-imposed lack of experience, I’m holding off on creating and placing my first cache, although I’ve already started planning it out.
As of right now, I’m planning on holding off until I hit 50 finds or until sometime next Spring to do it. I figure by then I will have seen enough caches and had enough experience that I think I’l be pretty confident in what I’m doing.
That’s a very responsible limitation to set on yourself.
Ironically, since your so responsible, you’d likely do just fine without waiting … or at least you’d “clean up after yourself” 8)I think my first hide was after about 15 finds … that was very low, I must admit, but that hide turned out fine. However, then a few weeks later I hid my next … it was a multi and I made many mistakes … I ended up going back out 3 times before I could get them approved … all ended well, but in hindsite if I had my finding experience under my belt, I would have saved myself much frustration.
get exercise – challenge yourself – make friends
got any pictures of the bites?
First week in November.
