I know AuntieNae and company have one in the works …. it’s just too early for them to be allow to list the event yet:

Cache In Trash Out – Waukesha – Saturday, April 14 from 1:00-4:00 PM

in reply to: Cache Clash Rash #1767067

I suspect that it would not be all that tough for GC.com to create such a tool … but as others have stated, it would mean that all multis/mysteries would have their “secret” coordinates filled in to the system. Since no single human would have time to do this and you’d never get all cache owners to comply … I don’t see that it would ever become a usable tool.

If it were possible, I would suggest that the system not even tell you how many feet away you are away or what direction … just a pass or fail response. Otherwise such a tool has too much potential for giving things away … especially when you happen to be real close to the “secret” coordinates. If you think about it, if the system tells me I can’t plant a cache because there’s something 25 feet away, it would be pretty easy to go find that container.

    Just a couple things …

    (1) I don’t know much about SNA land, but I do know that typically DNR agents/rangers are assigned to check on the land. In our area the ranger at Harrington Beach State Park has to make occassional rounds the to the SNA’s and check on things.

    (2) I see the logic in having SNA land areas and even making SNA land off limits to certain activities such as caching. What seems odd to me is why some land is marked as SNA. As in the examples already stated some of these areas are not treated in such away that warrants them being SNAs. There are exceptions to this, there’s a new area that use to be private land on the edge of Saukville, WI that has just been turned into a SNA. Because of the sensitive condition of the area, it truely has limitations put on it and it would be bad news to have trails forming due to caching.

My mom had concerns about me going out alone caching when I first told her what my new hobby was while on vacation in the UP. She said someone could lure you in the woods and then we would never find you. This was after she thought we would get mauled by bears walking down a trail. I told her possibly we could write a book with her imagination! But seriously, there are some concerns about geocaching alone, so take a dog, carry a cell phone, let someone know where you are going, or find a team to go with.

    A couple thoughts …

    (1) Maybe add pepper spray to your check list.

    (2) Where are you safe? Surely, not in a parking lot … so just live live, yes have a plan, but don’t lock yourself up.

so why make it a coin?

how about mini WGA ice/snow window scrapers, each with their own TB tracking number burned right into them!

    I found some here …

Ok, the ending of this should be a movie, but I’m not sure what the rating would me. You MUST read this and then click on the audio interview with the motel owner (green box on the right) ….

    That’s totally fine.

You can put what you want in caches, EXCEPT for stuff like: drugs, alchol, knives, food, porn, bullets, explosives.

Your confusing WHERE a cache is LOCATED, verses what you can put in it. “No Commercial” caches means that the box can not be located INSIDE places like coffee shops, gas stations, hardware stores, etc.

Disclaimer: The “No Commericial” rule for HIDING caches started up a few years back … so there are some older caches that are in places like coffee shops.

I believe a new geo-term has been coined:

    Term:
    Jeremy-Hide

    Definition:
Hiding a geocaching and going for maximum accuracy by laying spread out on the ground, taking 4 GPSr readings from your extremities and averaging the 4 readings.

I thought it was humerous how they visually focused on the Compass for so long … I think it got more air time than the GPSr.

I recorded it … sorry VHS.
You did a great job Brian and it gave good promotional to geocaching and WGA. But the people interviewing you seem to be kinda odd in their ways of asking stuff … mainly that they’d asking you something and not give you time to answer … just how much coffee do they drink on that show?

in reply to: Rechargeable batteries #1766611

I think I read somewhere that the LiIon work better in cold weather … but I learned the hardway (with my Palm) that if you leave them in a hot car in summer they’re pretty well shot.

in reply to: Rechargeable batteries #1766609

Interesting side note … the exact batteries you are dealing with (Energizer 2500mAh) seem to be getting bad reviews from users … they appear to work for a few charges, then go down hill fast.

One user indicates that his old Energizer 1600mAh batteries are actually working better after he’s recharged the 2500mAh version a few times. Another user for some reason owns 32 of the Energizer 2500mAh and has found that most of them (but not all) have this problem.

in reply to: Rechargeable batteries #1766608

First off, I use the rechargables too. But they don’t work the same as typical throw away batteries.

    (1) They don’t hold their charge just sitting around, you need to put them back on the charge even if they’re not used.

    (2) While the batteries you bought have a nice high amperage (current) rating, all of these types of rechargables have a lower voltage than their throw away equivilents. The problem is that many GPS receivers are designed to basically shut down when the voltage drops below a certain level, since rechargables have lower voltages to start with, then reach that point quicker … some GPS receivers have a setup setting that allows you to indicate what type of batteries you have, this helps a little as at least the power meter can give you accurate information for each type of battery.

    (3) Also these batteries don’t run as long when they’re cold … but they don’t hold their charge as long when they’re warm.

Actually I’ve gotten fancy looking promotional disks for various things in the mail at work .. typically those tiny CDs … that basically have a fancy looking menu on them … then each menu item just sends you to a page on the Internet. I guess it’s all about looks rather than function … kinda like me!

Thanks for your hard work and always being willing to answer my stupid questions. You better retire the WGA profile or at least have it forward to someone else … as it’s been such an ingrained habit to click on it when I have questions.
