Actually, you should be able to:
(1) Add those caches to your “ignore list”.
(2) Then modify your Pocket Query by checking the box marked “Are not on my ignore list”.Now of course you should still go find those caches, so kill a tree for those two caches.
Thanks for the tips, thus far!
Especially the one about vasoline to avoid salt. Luckly we live in the country, so around out house there isn’t salt to deal with, but when out and about elsewhere that’s good to know. Scooter was a “rescue” to so he’s almost 1 1/2 yrs old … the “foster” family indicated that he doesn’t leave the boots on. Also we already have a fleece coat for him, for longer walks and geocaching. He’s a very high energy (and lean) guy, so he likes being “in the hunt”.Interesting you brought this up … as the idea came up at dinner last night.
Would love to know what caches in my area are good picks for skiing to. I’m guessing the West Bend / Kewaskum area would be my best bet … so you cache owners in that area, speak up.
A review of caches I own (northern Ozaukee County), would suggest these:
“Shadows of Stonehaven – Krueger Kage” (GCN6MK) – this would take you along the state park’s ski trails, with the final being off the groomed trail but still excessible.
“Laughing Lion” (GCMGP2) – this county park has just been developed in the past year and seems to be getting a fair amount of skiers, you can ski to within about 15′ of the cache, then much more park to explore via skis.
“Star Light Star Bright” (GCQEF8) – while this is not an official skiing area, I believe it would be very doable, except the final would require dropping the skis.

Suggestion #1 … at the bottom of the event page, place a “Check Back Here for Updates” spot … which will start out blank, but gives you a place to post updates (including the date you placed them) … I’ve done so with my events.
Suggestion #2 … Setup a second profile for your self … maybe one called “russell_53040_EVENTS” AND attached to some other email address (like a free Yahoo email account) … then use it to create the event page. The reason … when people post all their “found it” entries after the event, you will be getting a couple thousand emails sent your way … much better to send these to a Yahoo account that you can clear out a week or two after the event. If you want to get all the “will attend” emails to your regular email, simply turn on your regular profile’s “watch list” for the event page .. just rememeber to turn if off the morning of the event.
If you have an event … they will come.
Kewaskum is a good area, because it will attract the “locals” (like me) and yet is central enough to draw the Milwaukee area crowd, some of the Green Bay area and who knows where else. A good way to improve you attendance is to not have it on a date of other events … for example avoid the WGA camp out event weekend in May and I believe there’s a “Cache In Trash Out” event sometime in April in Waukesha area in the works.Interesting idea of others helping you hide new caches … go for it if you wish, but ironicaly it might create more effort on you part than just hiding them yourself (since you’d already be scouting out general areas already), but that’s up to you.
I too am not that excited about it.
I need to find something that’s hidden, not something that’s just there.
Just my personal feeling … I still think it’s neat that they’ve created it for those that are in to it.Marc:
The “code” for this WGA message board, is different that a true HTML page like the GC web site. It’s not “img” code but something. Can’t think of what it is right now … anybody else???????
Good points Cheesehead.
I never thought of the fact that I could use my SnapFish account too … I’m just use to ordering my photos and deleting them off.
what kind’a pizza?!?!
ALSO … if you read my message above and say to yourself “but I don’t have any web space to upload the image to” …
… no fears, you can make use of the WGA website’s photo album area, but you have to do it right … this is how:
#1 Click on “Photo Album” from the WGA home page.
#2 Since you already have a “shrek & feona” album in place, simply upload you map image to your album.
#3 Now it gets a bit “picky”, normally you can click on one of your album photos, but you still will see it inside the WGA album frame, but you need to know the web address of JUST the PICTURE … so …
#4 Make sure you are viewing just the picture you want
#5 Right-click on the picture and then click on “Properties”.
#6 Look in the properties window for the Address (URL) of the picture, HOWEVER usually the whole address will not fit in the properties window … so use your mouse to highlight the whole address (on my screen it seems to take 3 lines in the properties box).
#7 Then right-click and “copy” the ENTIRE address (starting with http:// …etc… and end with .JPG). Make sure you have it ALL! You can now paste that address into your User Profile and add the rest of the code (including the quotes) that are needed.
As an example of what I explained above .. the correct web location address for your cool “shrek devils tower” photo is: http://wi-geocaching.com/photo_album2/00000210/P6240738.JPG
Converting THAT photo to show on your Profile page would mean creating this code:

#1 Having it as an image file (such as .jpg) is fine. But you must “upload” the image to the Internet World somewhere. So hopefully your email account comes with some web space where you can store stuff. Bascially you need to get a copy of your image file from your computer to some web provider space.
#2 Then you need to know the COMPLETE web address to that image. For my example I will use the web address of the WGA logo that you see in the upper-left corner of the WGA web pages. That jpg’s web address is:
http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/logo.gif#3 Now go into the Edit mode of your geocaching.com profile, and make sure the box is checked that says “My profile details are written in HTML format” … it’s right above the big box where you can type “Latest News” information.
#4 Then in the box where you want the map to appear, such as the “Biography” area, you need to type the following:
Using are WGA logo as an example, that would be:

Congrats on the coverage .. way to get the word out!
very timely subject, at least for me …
Yesterday we did some caches in Sheoygan with some friends from our church that are starting to get into it, I think they’re going to call themselves “to-dash” (not sure of the spelling, but some american indian wording) … any way … we’re at the first waypoint of “The End of the Line”, we thought we were on solid ground, but actually we were on the very edge of the marsh, MR to-dash broke through a filled his boots with mucky/cold marsh water, then I said “sorry, funny I was standing in that spot 2 minutes ago and didn’t break through), as soon as I said that I broke through in the spot I was standing, cold and yukee. We finished the cache, did one more and head back to the car for the “backup socks”, wish I had “backup boots” … our first experience with “time release ice landminds”.
garmin vs magellan … to me it’s what ever your use to is great; my only experience between the two brands is that we have 2 garmin units and have caches with others that have magellans, while they get about the same accuracy, it seems the magellan people “overshoot” the cache location, then there readings settle down and they end up next to me a minute later, typically near the cache; seems like the garmin responds quicker, maybe that’s not always true, but that’s been my experience in the woods.
lowrance … not sure if this is still the case, but over a year ago I was told that lowrance units take a very long time to upload coordinates into, which is only a noticable problem if you standing in line at an event; someone on the WGA board told me of an experience where it took several minutes to load event coordinates that only take 15 seconds on a garmin or magellan.
