Thanks for the feedback .. at the time, it didn’t even occur to me that I should ponder the issue. Regarding asking the owner, he doesn’t seem to be paying attention … no peep from him since this took place in August.
I’ve said this before, but it’s “on subject” so it warrants repeating:
Be aware that some of the low/mid – price COLOR screen Palm units are difficult to see in the sun. Such as the Zire 31 … it can be a real bear to read in the light tree cover. The Mrs. now uses my Zire 31 and I upgraded to the Tungesten E2, which has a “transreflective” color screen, which works a lot better out in the sunlight. Also, the good old cheap black/white screen units (from Ebay, etc) work well too.

Poor EcoRangers! … you guys need a helicopter or something.
Since we’re sharing funny caching stories … check out what happened to “Johnny Cache” at one of my caches last week: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=5647f18f-09df-4713-96f0-a572669d0ea5
Now let’s not jumping into agreeing to place these caches … I think each Welcome Center should need to complete some sort of form and pay an annual fee to the WGA. (I’m kidding!)
quoted from GC’s rules for events:
“While a music concert, a garage sale, a ham radio field day or town’s fireworks display might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the organizers and the primary attendees are not geocachers.”This is kind of funny … it seems to imply that events should not be centered around non-geocaching activities … which to me leaves gathering people together and hiding a whole bunch of temporary caches, and socializing too, of course. Cool! That’s what WGA or WGA-member events are like … but then at the same time GC has taken away the ability to “legally” log temp finds. I think the rule book was not written by the same people that make the event pages work.
Ekk! Farmers selling flowers and veggies … people being pulled through the streets by horses (in carts, I didn’t say dragged through the streets) … Yup, I guess that makes the whole city off limits to geocachers.

That “half brain” is that me the “teacher” or them the “student” … I want to know if I should be insulted. Never mind, I think I just answered that myself.

I’d put that on your resume … you’ve got a bright future in government work.
Seems like the most important thing to “get right” is that you do NOT take the container and hide it somewhere else. Many people assume it should be moved and are confused how that works. So I think that’s always an important thing to state … for the good of the caches out there … I wonder how often a missing caches is just a “rookie” finder making their first mistake.
thanks, bunnie
I agree, it’s easy when you get them out there … it’s the people that just blink at you and ask more question, that are tough to get moving.
I’m assuming some cachers local to your area will speak up on this soon.
But also, be aware that there is an officially advertised program called “Geo-Teaming” for just such a thing … I don’t know much about it … but here’s the link: http://www.playtimeinc.com/products_geoteaming.htm
For wheelchair accessible caches look for ones with a rating for Terrain of “1” … but still read the text to see if they are “True 1’s” which should be accessible from a chair, otherwise they should have beent rated “1.5”.
There are some accessible in SE Wisconsin .. can’t think of any at the moment, other than one of mine: “Another L” (Belgium, WI 53004)
I think EcoRangers might have some in the same general area also, I’m sure they’ll add some ideas on this message board.
You are correct about NiCad batteries.
Since I’m up on that, I tried to treat the batteries correctly, but it didn’t seem to make them last. The original Motorola batteries never seemed to be that great, even when new. These new batteries are NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydridate, might be spelled wrong) … so they don’t have the same memory problems, another plus to them. The only thing that would be even better, is if they had Lithium Ion batteries, which are even better, mainly lighter in weight.
Yup! I can see the Palm screen now. I told you we should have bought the Palm E2, with the Transreflective display!
