Just wondering out loud …
I’m aware of some people (I’m not one of them) that currently have a third option … NOT Health Care INSURANCE and NOT going without “protection” against Health Care costs. There are these “shared cost” programs … the one I’m thinking of is a Christian-based non-profit organization (can’t think of the name) where you buy “shares” sort of. Everyone pays in a set amount of money … those in “medical need” get their medical needs paid for … sort of a statistical sharing the load, good samaratian sort of thing. I think there is even an option for those that are “better off” to donate extra to help keep the cost down to the average person on the program.
What happens to these people? Since they don’t have a true INSURANCE plan that they are under … are they forced to get one, or pay the fine … or will what they are on count, since it’s protecting their risk?
I’ve experience that sort of thing … on any website that I’m doing more than just casual viewing of pages … for about a month now. It’s logical if you sit down to the GC website and keep hitting it with log entries it will appear to be that website. It’s likely a wider spread problem for you, you just don’t know it.
Just letting interested parties know that the April 17th CITO at Harrington Beach, has been up and running for a about a week now … not sure what’s stuck to keep it from showing on the WGA “Events” page … be here’s the link: GC25114
I could see making (or buying) a longer product like a belt or something.
But with regard to a bracklet … I just can’t imagine too many times having 6 feet of cord in the woods is going to help me get out of the woods alive … lets say any more than other stuff I might already have (ie. a regular belt or shoe laces), for like to stop blood from leaking out or giving a bear a good snap in the eye.

We go paperless using our nuvi 200. We upload our waypoints using GSAK. It contains all we need, the cache discription, cache page, the last five logs and even the hint when available. I have used the pedestrian mode a few times but it is not as accurate as an etrex and usually I end up finding the cache by going through the likely spots.
That’s true too … I use the GSAK macro with my nuvi. But I’m a bit scared to concern carrying the unit out in the woods … doesn’t seem sturdy enough and isn’t water proof. But depending on the cache … sometimes you can glean enough information and store it in your head to make your approach leaving it in the car … but I’d hate to be 2 miles into the woods, and wish I had the hint that was sitting on my dash 🙂
I agree with the “if you got a Nuvi already, anything with an arrow will work”. As also stated by others, the only other reason to get fancier is to go paperless … in which case if you got the money you might want to consider a Garmin Oregon 400t … you can add the map miniSD card for $79 (Amazon.com).
But the Oregon and map card would be assuming you decide to really get into caching. Consider what your caching style will be like … will you be driving along and suddenly decide you want to cache; or will you plan ahead, in which case maybe you want to start out with a more economical model and a $3 ream of paper for your printer. You can always upgrade in the future … by then the prices will come down even more, or they’ll have some amazing mind-reading GPSr that you just stick in your sock.
I agree with the concept of “dash line with no words” that would allow for visible on 2 sides. And I don’t think that this is dishonest, as I could see them being use that way, especially on an ammo box.
I think “times are changing” in general … prior to this year, I think I’ve had maybe 1 or 2 caches stolen in the 5+ years I’ve been doing this. Now sometime between January 10th and February 27th, I’ve had 3 purposely trashed and another taken. And I only have 15 or so caches out there.
sipafz …. I can’t thank you enough for rescuing the pieces … and yes, there is no doubt in my mind that the Ranger had no part of it … what many don’t understand is that Ranger Krueger himself hid some of those caches WITH ME … including the “final mystery” after the Where? and How? caches … Ranger Krueger actually did the “physical work” of creating the “spot” for that final (after all, only a DNR staffer can modify DNR property).
I’ve replaced all the missing containers (with el cheapo plastic once, but they’re nice and water tight).
I also found the Bridge one was truely missing … I retired it BUT just release at new one in that general area, in it’s place, which is already approved and running.
So like you think Ranger Krueger stole them, instead of telling me to change them? Actually he likes the ammo boxes, he thinks plasticwear is too whimpy. But I’m going with plasticwear to remove the temptation.
Thanks all!
I plan on putting them back into service … just plan on using “cheap” clear plastic boxes … since they left the other caches alone.
Got the boxes … just need to pick up the “innerards” from the Ranger and figure out what TBs belong in what caches.
This great cache and it’s humor speaks for itself: GC1AND2

I would take the smallest/least function nuvi over the best Tom-Tom … I’m just that happy with it and Garmin.
one slight issue …
if I look at the picture example, I see where there could be a name or GC of a cache listed, and reference to the WGA website. If I had no clue what geocaching was and didn’t poke around on the WGA website, how would I come to the conclusion (quickly) that I should go to http://www.geocaching.com to look up the cache that I just found by mistake.a simple solution …
make the “Geocaching.com Search” box more obvious in the left margin of the WGA website and add some sort of text that says “enter the GC##### code here, to look up a geocache”. -
