Not that I really know what I’m talking about (don’t say it!) … but I’m thinking that Grousetales is likely right about geocaching.com having problems … as I watch “finds” to my geocaches very closely … I’m aware of times when someone logs a find on one of my caches, but I don’t get the automated email of the find … sometimes the automated email suddendly shows up a day or two later, after I’ve already noticed the logged find directly on the cache listings. Logically, if there is a delay in the automated email, maybe the same “resources” are being used to “tickle” the WGA harvest … so the the “tickle” comes too late to make the most recent 200.
I assume you mean geocaching.com NOT geocache.com … but any way … I assume your not getting your email answered and/or get much response on this message board, because most (if not all) of the headcheeses and others are on their way to the Annual WGA picnic event that is happening this weekend … just guessing, but there is below averaging messaging going on today.
Not sure why your cache is not showing up on Recent Logs, either. It’s an automated system, so it’s not a purposeful thing. Maybe the automated system is not working correctly at all times.
You may need to wait to find out.
Ok … I got the actual paper article online now … which has 3 photos! The main photo, on the beach, is of: CB&MB and Team Ridge Runners.
Sorry the article is a bit choppy … hard to take full newspaper pages and scan on an 8.5 x 11 scanner … but I tried to make up for it by posting the images individually and the article text too.
Same link … http://my.core.com/~energysaver/NewsMay05.htm
Keep it coming.
But so far your lining up pretty well with my gut instincts.I can see (and like) using my Palm instead of printing out the paper cache pages. But you look at the PDA, then tuck it away (in your pack or pocket), then maybe look again when you need a “hint” or to notate your find. But if it’s also your GPSr, it’s constantly out and exposed to things. In fact I bought one of those water-tight equipment clear-equipment bags (like a zip lock bag on steroids); so that if I get into a real iffy situation, I drop my cell phone and Palm in the bag, roll down the seal and stick it shut.
PS – the new geocacher with the interest is “sixfishies”. say hi to them if you get a chance. I happened to regonize them as someone I knew from their profile .. small world! They must be real noticable out in the field right now … they are going out with a laptop with a GPS module hanging from it … so we got to help them increase their stealth factor, and quick!
Jeff:
Anyone that can legitmize layering colored pieces of chocolate in a bowl as a “salad” … is a geek … a fun and nice geek, but still a geek.P.S. – The M&M Seasoning shaker was a nice touch too. Is that just powder sugar?
I got another game you can play … but involves additonal investment … you need a 50 cent roll of pennies …. you drop a penny on your lawn, mark the coordinates, go about 20 paces, repeat, repeat, repeat …. then send your kids out to find the pennies. Oh yes, and YOU will need a lawn chair and a glass of ice tea. If you have a whole pitcher of ice tea … then don’t bother giving the kids the GPSr.

Good ideas, Auntie!
I’ve also decided from now on to keep a log of all travel bugs that enter my hands, just the name and tag number. Maybe keep it for just a few months … after that what would the odds be of me still noticing a “grab away” from a cache, anyway.Did anyone see a bunch of ballons … I had them hidden in my tool shed, for my daughter’s graduation from 7th grade .. but now they seem to be gone!?!?
If she IS interested in selling, I’m sure someone will bite … if she IS, post the details, condition, price, email (but use the word AT not @ and dot not .) to avoid getting her email address “spamed”.
BUT don’t post it here. Go to the “For Sale” section of the message board and post a new subject … a direct link is here: http://wi-geocaching.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=For+Sale&number=13&DaysPrune=30&LastLogin=
Sunlight seems to be the only thing that’s just no fun with Palms, at least mine.
The Zire 31 (and I assume most other units) have very generous adjustment range to the contrast and back light … I can take mine from full black to full white and any where in between. But it doesn’t really address the glare effect of the sun. Same problem with my NEW COLOR cell phone … seems to be something that comes with the package for a color screen.
The only thing that seems to work is (1) step into the shade, or (2) get my back between the sun and the unit … which is tougher to do at high noon.
My only question to you … where have you seen much sun lately?

Challenge of the today … be the first person to accurately indicate where the statement “watch your P’s and Q’s” comes from. I know the answer … but can you find it first!
You will like your Zire 31.
I got one last month.I’m using Plucker on it and always have the closest 200 non-found geocaches in my pocket. (To use Plucker, you first need to use Spinner on your desktop, see the article at http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html )
I also have tried a Free program called Earth Comber, to have street maps with me (check it out at http://earthcomber.com ). However, I recently purchase Street Atlas USA to replace it ( http://www.delorme.com ). But the free stuff is almost as good, the main advantage of Street Atlas is not needing to deal with the Internet to download maps, plus just slightly better map quality.
Enjoy!
Wow, I was just thinking exactly the same thing.
Ok, I lied.I’m glad I just added a Web Accelerator (that works very well, if I may add) … or I would have been very sad to spend all that download time for such a scary sight!
Sorry, if I sounded negative … I kind of was assuming their be a big splash or something in the end … I saw no wet clothes, nor self-inflicted pain … I only give it a 7 out of 10. Make it an 8, since the sound quality was good.
Either motel or tent … depending on the season (we’re not much for freezing in our sleep).
