go with the Nuvi …
(2) Garmin has great customer servicel
The off/on switch on our Nuvi broke a week after the warranty had expired. We contacted Garmin and they sent us a whole new unit.
Not at all surprising … if anything else would have happened, I’d say you had called the wrong number.
the concept is a great idea … like to throw an odd idea into the mix …
What if you produce one physical sticker that has two parts to it … a regular size and a micro … the end user cuts them apart and uses which ever part they want, or for that matter has a sticker for both a regular and a micro. Thus you have 2 sticker sizes for only 1 setup charge.
So made up dimensions for example purposes only:
You buy sticker stock that is 6″ tall x 3″ wide.
You make one setup and press run onto that stock.
You have a dotted line that says “cut here” at 4.5″
So you have a full size cache sticker that is 4.5″ x 3″
AND a micro size cache sticker that is 1.5″ x 3″I suppose if you want it extra noticable on bigger caches ..
you could leave thing as one piece (6 x 3) and have a
bit of duplicate information on your cache for the bomb robot to see.go with the Nuvi …
(1) it works great, for caching and driving
(2) Garmin has great customer service
(3) sounds like you’d not need to read the manualOk … here’s a solution …
1. Open a new geo account, this makes you an unknown person.
2. Start a new cache as that new geoperson, but don’t release it for approval (so it’s a “photo dumping” cache) and attached a photo.
3. Reference that picture to the reviewers.
… How would us viewers find the picture … we don’t know what geocacher name to look for to find the picture attached to an unapproved cache.
you would have been ok with it in your gallery, most likely … until you’ve drawn this attention to yourself … hee, hee
doing a little googling … this is likely an Occult thing … I’m finding references to graves, nailing cow tongues and rooster heads into trees.
So where do you park that thing if you go into a bar for a sandwich or something? Seems like if you are in the wrong neighborhood, you’d come out to just having a snowmobile again.
Thanks … that worked great!
Turns out there is a GSAK macro already made for the Pioneer units.
Could someone help me modify it?
The .GSK code is available at: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?s=d3c33c29efbc38c3fd16ea958b0eda27&showtopic=12927&st=0&#entry85903
The resulting field is just the written name of the cache, like this:
That Amazing CacheBut I’d rather have the Waypoint Code followed by the written name, like this:
GC12DG3 That Amazing CacheI thought I’d be able to figure it out, but I don’t see any reference to the field containing the Waypoint in the code.
Coworker in Port Washington, WI felt it … thought it was a truck outside at first.
Actually I feel so “complete” inside … I figured out the excel formulas … which is an amazing thing, considering how little I use excel.
In case your wondering:
Assuming A1 contains: N43 23.361 W87 52.341
North =((MID(A1,2,2))+(MID(A1,5,6)/60))*(IF(MID(A1,1,1)=”N”,1,-1))
West =((MID(A1,13,2))+(MID(A1,16,6)/60))*(IF(MID(A1,12,1)=”E”,1,-1))Giving you:
43.38935
and
-87.87235This assumes that A1 is exactly in the shown format … spaces as indicated, no degree symbol and no leading 0 before the 87 … which is the format that my MapSource is creating.
Tie … thanks!
I noticed that the “raw” .GPX was in the correct format … but couldn’t see an easy way to get the fields I wanted (nice and clean) into excel.
I have been poking around with preferences in MapSource. Couldn’t find a format that matched. But now I see there is a Lat/Lon that is decimal. However, they’ve left the N and W on … I need to remove the Ns and turn the Ws in – (negative). But that’s pretty easy to do in excel.
Thanks!
Speak of bears.
I have a pet bear (it was orphaned as a cub).
When I’ve cached in bad neighborhoods, I’ve taken it along.
Nobody messes with you when you have a bear. But not everyone seems to appreciate it.
Last summer I went caching with it and passed through a nudiest colony.
They all started freaking out. They said I had to leave a bear behind.
pepper spray … but more for fear of some insane 4-legged creature … but then again, it might just make it more insane.
I think the whole concept is cool and a great idea. One logistical thing that I don’t see as addressed …
If the WNDR buys the 75 containers, how do the distribute them to the 75 parks? Unless their is some distribution plan in place, I would think that the shipping cost (both direct and labor) would really add up. Just something to think about.
If each local person hiding the cache handled getting their own container, I would think that part would be more cost effective … but at the risk of non-standard containers creeping in.
