I’m not hopping on a plane soon.
But I have thought about a park in my area that has a bunch of “porta pottys” in it … maybe I could place a cache called “Europee’n”. Am I allowed to say that?

    no camo tape!
our freezer is in the laundry room (at least I think that’s where my wife hid it) … you know that special masking tape for “lint rollers” … da’ wife is sneaky, she put some of that tape (used of course) on the freezer, now the darn thing blends in with all the dusty bunnys floating around by the dryer.

I meant “absolutely no idea where the freezer is”, NOT “absolutely where the freezer is” … would of been much funnier had I gotten it right the first time.

You better learn how to use the placement form … that’s what we’re all waiting for you to do! Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Agree with Tie about just placing a new cache … two reasons:

    (1) It’s just not as fun to watch a cache that was not your idea to start with.

    (2) Replacing it with a brand new caches opens the flood gates of people to find a new cache, rather than excluding all the people that found the current “uncared for” cache.

Depends on what the liquid is that’s in the 8 balls, I suppose. I’m assuming somethings don’t have water in them … but then again the makers of these thing don’t want to poison any one, buy expensive chemical, nor did they think there stuff would be left to freeze in the woods.

Maybe if you have something (like an 8 ball) that you really, really wish to put in a cache … slip it in a small zip lock bag first.

arcangl7, that was all very well put!
I too have thought about what I’ve placed, not that I wish I had not hid any one them; but I will think things through more in the future.

However, I’m really learning from my every growing batch of people that were friends first, then caches second, that there really are different strokes for different folks. A couple are wanting me to plant something new that is involved and multiple; while another is screaming for a series of right under the muggles noses micros. So I guess the good new is, theres always someone out there that will look for whatever you hide. Maybe WGA could work on some kind of future online survey, asking what people like and dislike … not for the result of telling us all what to do, but to tell us what will attract the most cachers … which is what I want, the more that find it, the better, not matter what that is!

Even though I have a “taste” for planting tricky caches … I agree with you Grousetales.

In my case, I like to challenge people and I’m using geocaches as a “vent” for my creative side (I use to write/direct local murder mystery plays, but got tired of actors letting me down). So even though I like making things a bit tricky … the funny things is, now that I think of it, I tend to go FIND the not so tricky ones more. However, as others have said, my team perfers to find the ones in real scenic settings (in the woods or a very cool bridge or something). So I can’t even tell you what make me tick! At the same time, I’ve recently been told be a couple of my friends that just started caching, that they like to see some covert simple city ones (aka magnets, I guess); so I might have to create a couple of those under the mugglers noses … but I will make them in creative and fun locations.

    Oh, big deal, that’s easy.
I can hide caches in my sleep!

Good, now Tami can switch back to answering my emails again.

My last thought on this (unless I decide to have another one) (stop throwing things at the screen!) …

#1 Can we agree that the only logical reason that Groundspeak does not have a selection choice of “found it” for event caches ANY MORE is because THEY think, event temp caches should NOT count as finds? Am I right, or is there some other reason I’m missing?

#2 If I’m right about #1 above, then anything we do to log finds for temp event caches is against what Groundspeak thinks is correct.

#3 Based on #2, we can as individuals either choose to not count temp finds, or we can choose to count them. We’re never all going to agree on this, but it appears we have the ability to do what we want.

#4 So for those that want to count the temp finds, just continue to log that additional “attended” entries, they count towards your count. Why bother trying to find a special way (ie. by using another regular cache of some kind), to make it so you can pick a choice of “found it”. What’s the difference, either way your going against Groundspeak intention, assuming I have #1 correct.

#5 As a co-chair of an upcoming event, I think if people are going to log the temp finds for the event, the best place to keep them from showing up on regular caches, is to let them show up on my event cache page. To me that’s where they belong, we’re better to show you found something at an event, than on the page where the event is advertised.

… I think we (including me) are trying too hard to come up with a solution that some how makes Groundspeak’s logical/reasoning go away.

How old are you people anyway?
You always seem to have great answers!
Must have hit that magic age of “total wisdom”.

Your right, JT, that many hides has the benefit of spreading people out. The event that we’ve got coming up has addressed that as best as possible … we have 40 hides, but they are divided into 3 groups … the hope is that people can seek the group or groups that are most their style, and you can still feel that you’ve “completed something” just by completing one group.

in reply to: Temp Caches and the Camp-out #1744278

    I liked your comments, Ken!
I do like having a lot of temp caches at events too; but to me when I go to an event, I’m not going to worry if I find them all, I want to meet the people too. If I find them all great, if not I consider the found PEOPLE more important.

So does this mean your going to have a July 4th event again? I hope! I’ve got more practice now, if you want to consider placing two caches, this time. But nothing so dangerous this time!

Grousetales has some good points … right now I’m wrestling with logging multiple finds on an event page … there’s a reason they changed those log types, even if we don’t agree with it. Personally, I don’t care about numbers any more … this is all about having fun with my family, and with new friends and the challenge of the hunt. I don’t have a problem with those that care about numbers, but it’s just not my reason for doing this. However, I still like being able to log each find at an event, mainly to briefly comment on each cache I found (because I think that good temp hides are worth commenting on) … yet it is a bit of hassel to log them all in (at least for someone like me that cares not about the numbers). I’m still not sure what I will do in the future. From the standpoint of someone planning an event, each temp hide is just as “important” (whatever that means) as a permant cache … I’ve actually put more effort into picking the spots for temp hides, as I want each one memorable and to have very exact coordinates (to avoid frustration with the quanity involved).

On another note … It’s fine to leave behind a “Memorial Cache” from an event (when property managers will allow it), but I still don’t like the idea of a permant cache having hundreds of event logs listed on it; as it looks odd going forward in the future, as others find the cache after the event is history. If I’m seeking a regular cache, I hope to find log entries/comments that deal with the cache I will be finding, not some long gone event.
