IF YOU WANT … Send the file you have to me ( infox -at- nconnect -dot- net ) … I will attempt to convert and send them on to Brian, using GPS Babel (http://gpsbabel.sourceforge.net/)

I’m a garmin / mapsource user to; gpsbabel threw me at first; here’s what you do.
(a) Make sure the software you are opening is “gpsbabelfront.exe” NOT “gpsbabel.exe”.
(b) Select Input FORMAT of “Garmin Mapsource”, do this first before trying to pick your file.
(c)Then browse to your Input File, making sure you’ve selected “File Type” of “All Files *.*”.
(d) Select Output FORMAT of “Geocaching.com .loc”, again do this before selecting the Output File name.
(e) Now, browse to where you want the Output File and name the file; making sure YOU type the .loc file extension, since it doesn’t seem to assume it.
(f) Now hit [Process]
You should then get a “Command executed successfully.” in the Results box.

Sheboygan is done.
Will email you the Sheboygan.loc file.Note that Batavia is a bit screwy … Cty A and School Dr. are both east-west roads about a half mile apart, so I plotted a spot half way between them on the main north-south road (Hwy 28).

Grousetales,
Do you still need SHEBOYGAN done?
If so, say the word and I’ll get on it.quote:

Cool!
Makes my head spin for a unique idea … something odd, like how about a Travel Bug that doesn’t move … like a TB welded to the side of a bridge, you can log it but you can’t put miles on it.

Cool … thanks … if you think of it, note it on your “will attend” entry, once the site is up.
A quick update …
Sorry to keep you all waiting on the details. We have things well in hand. EcoRangers or is it ecorangers and I have completed our mockup of the event page PLUS it’s own separate linked website.
We can not reserve the building that will be the base of operations for our event until the beginning of January, even though they know we’re coming. Once we can officially book the facility, we will send the event page in for approval.
A couple questions …
(1) Do we have a couple people that could bring a couple charcoal grills (I will supply the charcoal and run them)?
(2) Does anyone know how to drive a hover craft or happen to have a Class 47 helicopter license?
… ok, question #2 was just to throw you!
“abcdmCachers”, I liked all your comments.
Aside from the various opinons from the “value” of temp. caches, you have an excellent point about the stats of event attendance being “smushed” by multi-logging (this of course could open the storm of caring or not caring about stats, but lets not go there) … but still an excellent point, it would be cool if GC had a choice of “Found Temp”, to me that would settle any room for argument and make both sides of the opinion happy, would it not.I too share your opinion about temps being hard to sneak up on alone, with all the extra cachers on the sidelines. Your right, in that way there a different animal. This brings up a new question in need of opinions … since it’s off subject, I will post a new subject of “Opinion Poll – Dividing the Troops”.
Yup, sooner or later it all gets pooled in a big bucket. From personal experience, even stuff that was never a tax, “collected” in a special way for a special purpose is fair game. All to say that the taxes didn’t go up, in reality it’s taking money for something else and harvesting it for taxes.

I agree with you on that. I know of some people (not saying geocachers) that don’t believe in paying state park fees, so they park on the nearest side road and walk in a mile to use the park. I’ve never understood that … it would feel like going to a restaurant and sneaking in to eat the buffet. I’m enjoying the park, I should pay towards it, what else can I do for $20 a year?
It sad, but budget cuts are just making this stuff happen. I notice other parks in my neck of the woods seem to have a lot of hours on “auto pilot” … with closed sign on the office door and going on the honor system. It never hurts to try and help out, but my small view into budget issues seems to indicate that by the time we hear of these things the decisions have already been made.

To clarify my statements …
I understand how I could get the geocaching.com approvals … it would just never fly in the rural settings specific to the area we’re having the event in. As an example, there are two regular caches in the area now, both with approval from the DNR, but at the most we’d be lucky to talk them into maybe 1 more permanent (which I’m likely to only do if I retire the current 1 I have there now). We are “guests” on the land where the event is held, guests for the day, not for a year or two.
Regarding my assumption that after an event not many people are left to find a cache in the future. I just think the reality is that that in my rural area, that I’m “fooling myself” to think after 40 or 50 cachers have found a cache in 1 day, that it will receive more than 1 or 2 visits in the year that follows. I guess it depends on the area, I have caches in the area now that are considered “popular” but have logged about 15 finds in their first 6 months. We just don’t have the traffic up in my area. Besides this point of mine is meaningless, if the property owners don’t want permanent caches. To put it in perspective, the DNR rep plans on walking my hide locations with me, so he knows where I put them and so he knows they’re gone after its over … I consider him a fair man, with excellent input and I respect his wishes and I’m just happier than a plump beanie baby that he’s giving us free run of the property for a day.
Any geocacher that knows me and my hides, knows that I will “leave no tree unturned” with regards to hiding new caches. I’d rather spend a whole weekend planning and hiding a new cache, than go out finding caches. Last month I found a great spot, planned a 5-step multi, with an elaborate theme that show cased a cool area; then I went back to plant the hides to find the area so over-run with paintballers that I feared for my families safety … I aborted the whole darn plan, for the good of geocachers, was not an easy end result for me to take.
