I was tempted … but it’s nothing to do with geocaching … just a friend with a motorcycle. But then again so far my question got 61 “views”, just not many people with an opinion.

    did you check Home Depot

I wish when you sent a SMS Text Message from a cell phone using “TextMarks” to log a found cache, that you had the option of having it actually login the find on the cache’s web page, withOUT it first being “que’d up” on the “Field Notes” screen.

If I’m out on vacation (ie. away from a computer for extended period of time), it would be great to “go live” with your finds, using texting on a standarded cell phone. But with the texted logs being “stuck” on the Field Notes screen, until you release them via a computer, kind of makes that concept useless.

I read about this in more detail once, somewhere :-).
Basically, I think the thought is that most dogs can tell where caches are without much problem, it’s training them that it’s important information that they should relay on to you.

Our dog just plain loves to get out in the woods … so the whole concept is exciting. So more often than not, he does NOT lead us to the cache. But a couple outtings back, we took a friend for the first time and Scooter pretty much sat on top of the cache, blocking the friend from seeing it. 🙂

to plan for the future … you should ….

    (1) Once a week print off at least 24 hrs worth of cache pages.
    (2) Put them in a fire proof safe.
    (3) Repeat on a weekly basis.

… this gives you a fall back plan.

    A couple that I have …

This one is well liked by those that have done it. But for some reason many seem to bypass it. It’s NOT hard but enjoyably different. It’s a multi in that you need to find two other caches to get to this one, so you get 3 “points” when you’re done.

    GCQEF8
Three initial easy terrain stages leading to a real pain of a final. Not sure if enjoyable is the word, but challenging does come to mind. Dress for the occassion – it helps a lot.

    I kind of like a combination of #4 and #6a …

#4 – I like the professional / crisp look, but not sure we want to make it look like we’re mountain climbers. Nothing wrong with mountain climbers, I just don’t do that very often when caching 🙂

#6a – I like the guy thinking about an ammo can and walking off the W, but would rather see something rather than a stick figure and a more finished looking logo and state of wisconsin.

… so my vote would be to take #4 and remove the climbers and replace them with a anatomically correct person walking off the W, with a star on #4s wisconsin showing where the event is held.

If you feel like heading to my next of the woods … I renamed one of my caches because the woods are winning … I’m going to retire it at some point, but for now it’s got an extra star … GCVJAT “Xtreme Woods of Dreams”

Sounds like the blew it up now, from the picture one might assume it was out in the open …

    Glad you enjoyed.

Back to the subject … I’ve discovered by semi-accident, that the best way to NOT raise alarm, is to walking around with a clipboard. On two occassions at my local state park (while planning hides for a event a couple years back), I was walking around with a couple ammo cans and a clipboard to make my notes. Between those two days of doing this, I think I had about 5 people/families come up to me and ask me park related questions. Who else but some “authority” would be out in the woods with a clipboard.

I only see one set of legs, so unless the tryst is with the shrub, I’d go with number 2.

Since the legs are standing … I don’t think it’s #2 … maybe the second choice, but not #2.

    A couple observations …

    (1) I would think when your in the business of protecting the public (ie. law enforcement, fire dept, etc.), to some extent your hands are tied. Joe public citizen finds a plastic container in the woods, you think for a brief second if this might be dangerous, you decide it’s not and yank it open. But if you are on-duty and dispatched to a location and told to deal with a situation that might or might not be serious, I think your stuck and have to deal with those 1% or less risks. Even if it is a safe item, if you just walk up and yank it open under the watchful eye of the public or other professionals, you might be written up for not doing your job. Maybe that would be wrong, but it could happen.

    (2) I’m not trying to poke fun of this situation – I truely wonder this. Why is it that bomb squads bring in robots and then use them to blow things like this up? Why don’t these robots have “fingers” or saws to pull things apart or cut them open. It just seems like when you don’t have a bomb, you end up with a bomb any way.

If you’re in the Belgium, WI area (zip 53004) … Try Deano’s Steakhouse … http://www.deanos-steakhouse.com/.

The steaks are giant and great … this places seems to draw people from a fair distance away. Prices are not low, but the food is high quality. Plus it’s only 5 minutes from 10 of my caches 🙂
