    Sure,

I have in the past, dabbled a bit with a couple of ideas regarding a sticker to apply to cache containers which may help reduce the chance that a container could be percieved as something dangerous… See it here: http://home.wi.rr.com/lcdcreations/Misc/geosticker.gif
I can probably get these printed up rather cheaply.. I’m sure they would not be as expensive as the regular GC stickers…

The other item is a downloadable .pdf or .doc file. It’s what I’m calling a “geo-permission” document for the cache hider and land manager to fill out… This way permission is for sure and the land manager has a hard copy of caches on his/her turf… Further lessening the chance of mis-identifications… See it here: http://home.wi.rr.com/lcdcreations/Misc/GeoPermission.pdf

These are not final drafts by any stretch. Maybe we need to tweek them a bit, what do you think?? These are available whether or not I get a position on the board this year… Always will be…

    Open for your thoughts…

Well, I know how Geogil feels… We here are what we refer to as “dog-people”… We love ’em!!

One of my first geocaching experiences was meeting Geogil and Dairy out on the trail in Monches…

In response to WZBT03’s post elsewhere in these forums.. I quote:

**Note this was in response to a real post which seems to have disappeared now…**

First I would like to say that the board, from what people tell me, does a great job with the picnic and campout. The one event I have been to that was sponsored by WGA was quite well done.
My question to potential board members or even current board members is:

1- What will you do that can only be accomplished from a board position?

I wouldn’t say that I’d be doing anything which can ONLY be done from a board position. Everyone can make differences on their own and the idea of such should be encouraged. I think having a board in the first place is a good way to concentrate the ideas/ideals of the entire membership into something that entities such as WDNR or Local Govts. tend to take more seriously… I’d like to be a part of that

2- Since discussions with the DNR have only resulted in more restrictions on geocaches – should they be continued?

Here, I’m not sure about the restrictions you’re talking about. Could you please “fill”? If it’s in reference to SNA’s and the like. I see those as positive restrictions. Keeping those areas clear of caches does not come second nature to everyone. I’d hate to see them ruined.

3- The geocoin idea which was pushed by the membership (actually one person I think), not the board, is a great idea.
Should it now be controlled by the board as to the final design etc or by a membership vote?

As far as I know the coin has already been minted. I belive the final design was voted on by the membership..

4- Did making WGA a non-profit organization have the desired effect with the DNR that was explained to us?

    Honestly, I don’t know..

5- Since less then 10% of state geocachers vote in elections, should they be held in the summer when more people are involved?

I geocache all year long when I can. I read the boards all year. I’d think that anyone who cares enough is involved whether caching or reading and is aware of what’s going on..

6- Since the cache rescue plan is in the discussion this time around, what is the plan that is proposed and why can’t it be done now and why hasn’t the current board already done it?

Personally I think this thing could have been put to bed a long time ago. I know for awhile the idea of having a group of people per region(TBD) who would commit to doing the actual retrievals.. Hopefully, there would be an excess to cover “sick days” etc… I think if we designated regions and asked people to volunteer, you’d have more than enough help in no time… Maybe there would have to be one person that acts as a “dispatcher” of sorts.. We could work on this and have it running by spring I’d think..

These are just my thoughts and if you do not care to respond to them if you are running for a board position, that is okay.

Does any of this make sense? I’m not promising the moon and stars here. I really belive the membership is what makes this all work and you just need to have a few people comitted to bringing it all together… Thanks for the great questions!!

    Good question Brian!!

A lot of time has passed since I first got involved in Geocaching.. It’s hard to remember all the what’s, when’s, and where’s. But, here’s my best shot…

I guess the first event I can remember being involved in was when I was honored by my t-shirt design being chosen for the 2003 Geo-Campout at High Cliff State Park. Anne and I attended that event and had to leave early. There was an emergency in the family.. Wish we could have stayed.. What we got to see was awesome!!

Next one would have been the 2004 Geo-Campout at Hartman Creek State Park.. I got to hide some of the caches there for the event and had a great time doing it too!! Hiding caches for events to this day is one of my most favorite things to do.. It allows me to be a little evil and I also make an attempt to make some of them “easier” to find.. I love nothing more than somebody coming up to me and saying how they enjoyed a cache I placed.. It’s better than finding them, for me at least..

Next was.. The 2004 Geo-Picnic at Mackenzie.. Got to hide some caches there as well and scouted a good place to put the repeater up… Again, had a great time hiding caches!! It’s fun to get together with the group before hand and come up with “a game plan”. We really make an attempt to use the entire park. Somehow it seems I always pick the “short straw” and end up placing the ones furthest out from base camp!!(Secretly, I like the far out ones!!!) Don’t tell anyone!

For Lake Wissota, Anne was pregnant with our third little cacher.. So we passed on this one… I bet I missed alot..

Next, we made sure to attend the 2005 Geo-Picnic at Greenbush Trails… I think we were having a bit of a hard time coming up with people to hide caches(everyone was busy). I got a last minute phone call looking for some kind of help and decided to go help hide caches once again.. I think the thermometer hit 96 deg. that day!! Yikes!! Humid too!! But, we got some good ones out there again and everyone had a good time!! Success!.. Anne and I camped in the area to make up for missing the Geo-Campout. Had a few guests at our campsite Friday and Saturday nights we had fun meeting you all there!! Thanks for a great time!

And the rest is unimportant or forgotten… I think this is all accurate. If anyone thinks otherwise, chime in and help me to remember.. We’ve had a terrific time doing what we do and hope to for a long time to come.. Thanks to WGA for all the opportunities..

    Cache on!!

I think Uncle Fun gets my nod in this instance.. Sometimes a “friendly” little email would be enough to make somebody think twice. This way, they would have an opportuntiy to change the cache to something more appropriate. I’d hate to see a nicely done cache in a great area just disappear without the chance to last another day… If it’s not corrected or, able to be, then it becomes another situation and should be delt with differently…

Yeah, the majority of it is 1/4″ material. I remember trying to come up with a configuration that extended a few points to the outsides. Note the location of the dividers…

The shelves/dividers are held in place along side of 1/2″ x 1/2″ cleats. The cleats are glued and shot in from the outside in.. Just a little layout…

Bec, thanks for the compliment.. Yeah, it is a bit heavy. Notice the rather substancial handles on the sides..? When it’s full, it’s nice to have a helper…

    See you on the trails!

Here’s some links to our “chuckbox” pics… It’s made of 1/4″ birch ply and walnut corners.. Yours doesn’t need to be this fancy but, I was playing. It measures overall 30″ wide x 24″ tall and 16″ deep… I have more pics with tapemeasure in view. You’d be able to determine drawer/shelve sizes from these pics.. Make yours to suit yourself and your equipment.. This seems to work well for us..

I had to unbury it in the garage and it’s a mess (excuse me) but I think it just got “stowed” after last use.

    Jeremy,

Maybe we should all know what *not* to do on our pages from now on? Unless it’s such an odd thing that it’s not likely to occur again…?

Or, just email me what the problem is..

    Thanks!!

    Bill

in reply to: Painful Paperless – Help With Plucker #1741063

Nice detective work Jeremy!! Now, I’ll just have to remove those two in every PQ I get….Unless… I just have to go find those two and they wont show up in the next PQ…

    There’s incentive for ya!!

    Cheers!
    Bill

in reply to: Painful Paperless – Help With Plucker #1741061

    O.K. got it.
But, I’m still a little confused.
My PQ in question consists of about 450 caches. While pluckering it, it was stopping on retrieving page 341 everytime. I set a filter in GSAK to divide the caches up into two “halves” and ran each one separately without any stoppage… Went back and ran the entire thing and got stopped at 341 again. I seriously don’t understand that one!

So Jeremy, I took the info you provided regarding GCPGTE – Whitnallgps’s 1,000th by Uncle_Fun
GCMA42 – Alan Kulwicki Memorial Cache by Uncle_Fun
and removed them from my list.

I ran those 448 caches through plucker and had no stoppage. My first question is: How did you determine those two to be problematic? And, Why didn’t they stop plucker when I had the PQ split in two?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    Bill

HEY!! Wait a minute! What did you guys do? (Just Kidding)

I can’t plucker my latest PQ either! It’s got to be a more recent cache that’s creating the problem…

I haven’t pluckered a thing since before gun deer season. Now I have a problem.

    Huh!

    We’ll see about this!

    Cheers!
