It also made it into the Racine Journal Times on Friday, June 9th.
Here are some of the things we’ve left/found in caches, mostly gotten at dollar stores:
small decks of playing cards, handheld little puzzles, stickers, little compasses, carabeaners, (if good container) individual packets of kleenex, wet wipes, glitter pens, 8-packs of crayons, keychains, matchbox cars, bandaids, and batteries. When shopping for items to take with us, we look for either things for the kids or useful things cachers may need while out on the trails. 😛Go to geocaching.com and look under Merlin1974 (one word) and I found him. It seems he hasn’t been caching since September 2005 so who knows if the e-mail address is still active. Try sending him an e-mail directly through his profile as maybe he updated that.
Good luck!
We’re sad they took away the google maps also. You can still view them, though, by clicking ‘Google maps’ to the left of the map. It won’t show on the cache page, but you can see it in another screen.
😯 ooops, posted elsewhere first, then remembered I didn’t try this one. I have to follow the rules so I came back and am posting! 😆
Thinking about downtown Milwaukee and a search area of about 10 miles around it, here are a few of our favorites. We’ve introduced some new cachers to the sport with these:
“Wat’er You looking for” — GC363A; a two-part multi with a unique 1st part
His Last Trip — GC75A3; a nice virtual
The Ghost Train series — many individual caches in a series that combines some nice readings; you can walk from point to point (a little long, but nice) or drive between themHave fun!

At the campout we did question a member of the board as to the selection of weekends. Unfortunately this year’s weekend was selected due to the availability of the park.
Being that geocaching is a family sport, I know that everyone realized the issues with the conflict. I know that we requested that next year we work hard to have the campout back on the 3rd weekend so there is no conflict with the holiday (and hopefully it would be a bit warmer also).
Unfortunately we did lose a fellow WI geocacher last year, April 21, 2005. His geo-name was Painter (real name Dennis) and he had a few caches in the Racine/Kenosha area with a theme of Painter’s Art Lesson. I believe he was a friend/coworker of Brian, Buy-the-Tie.
The link to the original WGA announcement:
LinkOne of his caches still remains active adopted by Team Deejay: GCJAF5.

Everytime we were at base camp, we never saw you or anyone with the coins. We’d like 2 please. Let us know how to pay and when you’d like our street address.
Hmmmm….is this for real? My first inclination is ‘no’ as the cachers name is Ladycop. She should enter into the Burlington contest every year asking for the biggest tall tale!
The first of the secret items we saw at Groundspeak is now up on the site!!!
Check out the new maps!!!
Lighthouse Run in June in Racine — Bill’s running the 10 mile and Steph the 4 mile.
Next marathon — October in Washington DC — Marine Corps Marathon
Tackling both the ‘Washingtons’ this year!
The gang at Groundspeak held an open house on Friday April 21st so that is why there are so many people pictured in the offices. We got a sneak peek at some new things coming down the pipe…not all of them are cache related…hehehehe!!!!
Our runs…(eeewwwww!!!!!)….
Mrs. Traker ran her first race and did a wonderful job completing the 10k in 1:08.
Mr. Traker wasn’t as happy but did finish the marathon in 5:54…his 5th marathon and 5th state!!And…..just wait…..
When we were at Groundspeak, Raine showed us the new mapping feature that will be available very soon on gc.com. It was using Google and was a really awesome way to look at an area, see all the cache points, and a list of the caches (that all were linked to the cache pages itself). It also allowed you to ‘pan’ the map much easier than currently available.
He had one computer bug to work out, but he hoped this new mapping feature would be available “soon.”
Just added another state, WA. Please change our states total to 19. Thanks.
