Television Viewing Event #1873460If I had gotten on the list when I moved to Green Bay almost 3 decades ago, I would have been pretty close by now. I probably couldn’t afford them anyhow 🙄 I’ve got a friend though that plays in one of the Packer bands, and usually once a season he can get me a sideline pass for a game. What kind of fun is that! 8)
Way to go Wheezers. On to the next challenge!

I should add that I really love my eXplorist 600XL, and find that it has the most accurate signal of any GPS I have compared it to.
Funny you should ask, I called the Magellan help line Thursday. The clip on the top of my new eXplorist 600XL broke. They gave me a return authorization #, and a shipping address in Texas, and told me to send it in and expect it back in three weeks. Because I’m leaving to go to Geowoodstock in 3 1/2 weeks, and after all of the stuff I’ve heard about Maggellan tech support, I told them that I would delay sending the unit in until June so I could have it for sure on my trip. they agreed to that. I will let you know about their service in late June (I hope!).
Hi Benny 7210, I’m planning on caching in that area today, so I’ll stop and try to rescue the TB.

Years ago I took my class of students from a Minnesota Technical college on an extended field trip which included a visit to the loop in Chicago. One of the students, Kurt, a “hayseed” from eastern North Dakota had never been to a large urban area before and was quite anxious to see all the sights. Several of the other more worldly students took Kurt aside during the bus trip and warned him not to be looking up at the tops of the skyscrapers as it would be distracting to drivers, and would possibly cause accidents or gridlock on the city streets. While we were walking in downtown Chicago we would occasionally see Kurt sneaking a peek up at the tops of the buildings, but never for more than a fraction of a second. I’m happy to report that the drivers of Chicago experienced no problems driving that day due to Kurt’s illicit peaks at the top of Chicago skyscrapers!
Kadfar (Milwaukee), MrRRKing (Madison), and myself (Green Bay) aka Team Bald 2.5, are making the trek to GW5. We are renting a deluxe cachemobile, and leaving May 19th for 10 days of geocaching and vacation fun. We are going to try to cache in at least 5 or 6 states along the way. We are making it easy for ourselves and staying at hotels with pools all of the way there and back! I’m counting the days until we leave. I NEED A VACATION!!!
I visited this cache last fall with my wife (who was on crutches at the time), and noted in my log that it was by far the prettiest cache location that I had visited. I’m seriously thinking of visiting this cache again to see it in other seasons. Highly recommended!
k0rpl – Congratulations. You are one driven cacher! On to the next milestone!
Nice work Bob, 700 is a great milestone. The good news, there are still more caches to find!
Has anyone that sent letters received a reply? I’ve been watching my inbox, but haven’t heard a thing.
Mike, It has been fun finding about 50 of those with you in the last few weeks. Way to go!
You can make contact with the Brown County Parks Dept. through their website. I just sent this letter to them:
“Assistant Director Hartman,
I was recently made aware of a new county policy to charge a fee for placement of geocaches in Brown County parks. There has been a lot of discussion of this policy in the Wisconsin Geocaching website. I would like to give several reasons why I think that this policy should be reconsidered.
First, Geocaching is an activity that does not generate expenses for the parks department. There is no special equipment needed for the enjoyment of this sport. Geocachers often use areas of the park that are not normally used by other members of the public, and leave little environmental impact. The only potential expenses I could foresee is the paperwork to handle cache registrations.
Second, Although not a huge factor, many geocachers from around the state (as well as out of state) travel to the area to cache, and in the process buy gas, food, stay in hotels etc. Some areas of Wisconsin have actually embraced geocaching as a way to promote tourism. A fee will discourage expansion of geocaching and any resulting economic impact.
Third, Many of the geocachers in Wisconsin participate in activity called CITO, or cache in, trash out. Often I will carry a trash bag with me as I seek a cache, and will fill it up as I use the park. Geocachers as a group are very aware of the environment, and appreciate the park system as important recreational and ecological areas.
I would like to think that the Parks Department of Brown exist to promote the use of the parks, not to initiate policies that discourage their use. I personally had not visited any of the Brown County parks until I started geocaching, although I have lived in the area for 27 years. I would respectfully request that you reconsider the policies concerning geocaching in Brown County Parks. Thank you.”If cachers from around the state send positive geocaching messages to the Brown County Parks, maybe we can have a positive effect on this policy.
I just surfed through the Brown County Parks web pages, and so far there is no listing of any policy or fees associated with geocachig. I assume that the site will be updated eventually to reflect any policy changes. What struck me while going through the site was the number of fees charged for various activities at the county parks and trails. It seems that geocachers are not the only ones charged for using county owned and operated parks. With all of the pressures to reduce property taxes, more and more of the costs associated with government operations are being shifted to “user fees”. On the surface, this is a good thing, as long as it is someone else paying for their activities. Next thing you know, the county run library will implement checkout fees. How about county toll roads?
It does make you wonder where all of the money collected by the county in property taxes is going (think jails!).
