Well, I would vote for Vancouver, British Columbia. Temps are pretty mild: mid 50s and sometimes 60s,no snow except high up in the mountains, but the days are quite cloudy and always with a chance of rain! THere are plenty of beautiful parks in urban and suburban areas, excellent hiking trails, huge cedar trees, ocean and mountain views. Some great lighthouses, totem poles, unique features and culture and the people are very friendly. Plus there are lots of caches there!
Just remember that if one heads north, or way south for that matter, you may need a passport. I forget when the deadlines are.
There could be an early spring next year. If that’s the case, I would head north. You know, to try and stay in that winter frame of mind that much longer. You might end up waiting as long as 8 months for winter to come back. That’s an awfully long wait. 😀
Glad to welcome you aboard.
Come on tyedye, don’t talk so foolishly. I could really use a win here.
I saw two stations today in Milwukee at $2.15/gallon for regular unleaded. Both were on Brown Deer road between 76th street and 107th street.
Welcome to the cult ah er family. Yeah, that’s it, the family.
I started caching in the middle of June of ’06. During the following winter/spring, I realized that I could average one cache/day. I just kind of stuck with that goal. I didn’t make it last year, but I have plenty of time yet to get caught up.
Whenever I do any traveling around the state, I try to find caches to help me earn the DeLorme Challenge and to find at least one in each county. If I am near a state line, I will also try to find one in the next state. I am planning on going to Europe in a year and a half, and will try to hit at least one in each country I visit. That will be a tough one though as it is an education tour and there is very little free time. There can’t be too many that have cached all of the continents. I wouldn’t mind trying for that, but it would be impossible for me.

Wow, Furfool with an amazing technical explanation. I would have expected a story about giant beavers marking their territory from FURfool.
That was actually my first answer, but I thought I ‘d come up with something a little juicier.

There in the woods were several trees that looked like they had been mostly cut through with chainsaws but were still standing. The cut seemed to go all the way around the perimeter of the tree, about 3′ up from the ground, but the tree was still standing. The trees themselves were mature trees between 18″ and 24″ in diameter. Can anyone explain what this might have been??? Is there some reason I’m unaware of to do this?
Many times when a forester wants certain trees removed, but it may cause damage to trees that they want to remain, they will “girdle ” the unwanted tree. This could be done by making a cut completely around the tree, or by shaving the bark completely around the tree. Either way, the cut must be made completely through the bark and into the wood. This will kill the unwanted tree do to the fact that it can no longer be nourished. The tree dies and it will stand for a longer period of time. This will allow the dead tree to fall to the ground in smaller pieces, a little at a time rather than all at once.
It is quite common to see this sort of thing in a pine plantation. After a clear cut, a crew will usually plant red pines because they grow fast and straight. Other trees that are already there, usually as seedlings or saplings will take off like weeds. At approximately 15-25 years, a crew will go in and prune the plantation. All of the lower branches are cut off to keep the wood to a higher quality and to aid in keeping forest fires from easily spreading into the tree’s crown. During the pruning process is when most of the “undesireables” are dealt with. At this time they are too big to cut down without damaging the planted pines.
Another reason could be that the DNR, or another agency, is purposely stressing certain species to examine at a later time for disease or pests. They have been stressing ash trees in order to check for the emarld ash borer. If you haven’t heard of this pest yet, I urge you to check out the DNR website. http://dnr.wi.gov/forestry/FH/Ash/
Hey Beast, with Mobile’s new record quarterly profits, they should be giving you a $1.50/gal. rebate.
Here is one: West Bend, for example, is lousy with caches. Meaning that W.B. has a lot of caches, not lousy or bad caches.
Welcome to the cult world of gecaching. Seeing as beggars night is approaching, I hope you brought treats for all of us. I like peanut butter cups and dark chocolate. And an ice cold beer.

Don’t put me in the final. The FF gods hate that kind of talk and will rain down all kinds of injuries, suspensions and poor play. I’ve got a good team, but FF has a lot of luck and is all about matchups. In the playoffs, you’re one and done. You know what they say, “On any given Sunday, …”

Can anybody tell me how long this deer in the headlight look is going to stay on my face?
Thanks TyeDye. It looks like what I’m looking for. I will try playing with it when I have a little more time just to make sure. I appreciate your help.
