Anybody see any smart cars yet? We live near a dealership and they are already sold out of them until next year. A bit odd looking. If I’m not mistaken, they get about 40m/gal, and are only two seaters and cost about $13,500. My wife’s Carolla got 40m/gal on the highway when we first got it 6 years ago, and that is a four seater. I don’t think I could justify the cost of one of those things for just a little running around. We are a family of four after all.
Do you really want a downer? Or maybe something to really p— you off? Take it how you want. Yesterday morning sometime, (and I forget the network) some guy from the energy departmaent said that we are going to see 12-15 dollar/gallon gasoline. I did not hear his prediction of when though. He might have said 30 years from now for all I know.
My wife and daughter just came home from Germany yesterday, and gas there was over $7/gal. And I saw the Netherlands were over $9.
Can you imagine $15 for gas? All of the chaos and crime? The cost of food and clothes?
I was looking forward to hitting some counties and DeLorme pages in N.E. Wis.on the way up north for vacation this year. It doesn’t look like we can afford vacation this year. Gas alone will probably run us an extra Benji this year, not to mention the added cost of food. It wouldn’t be so bad if we could only take one vehicle, but that is out of the question.
I have been fortunate so far this year-I haven’t even seen one yet. I remember back in ’82, a car ride from Hazzlehurst to Three Lakes, We constantly picked ticks off of ourselves for the entire trip and most of the night. I sure don’t miss those kind of days.
I just want to wish good luck to everyone heading to Burlington this weekend.

I just picked up my Delorme Atlas. Looking forward to getting started. It is going to be tough getting to Northern WI. Now might be the time to get the motorcycle running and let the RV sit.
No…there are paved roads up here and everything despite popular belief. So it’s really not all that tough. 🙄 😉
Are you sure? My mom’s place is down a three mile dirt road with no electricity or running water.
I have read that wrapping tape (I believe duct tape) around the tree trunk will help in preventing the caterpillar from migrating to other trees. Or maybe from the gound into the trees or something like that. I haven’t seen it in quite a while and just can’t be sure.
If you keep an eye on this forum you will see that a lot of times coins will be made for events. In that case, they want you to order ahead of time so that they know how many to have made. The more that are made, the cheaper they get. Sometimes a cacher or team will have some personal ones made. In that case, it may be the same as previously mentioned or they may decide to buy a certain quantity themselves for trade, sell, or release. Instaed of personal coins, and because of he cost, it seems that more people opt for pathtags or wooden nickles. Another source to buy coins is at events. Many times at the bigger events, such as those sponsered by the WGA or GS, people are looking to sell some of their coins. Sometimes at the smaller events too, although not as much at those. I bought three at the WGA picnic last fall. You might also put a post here and ask if anybody has extras to sell.

I noticed that too. Any chance it could be the same bear as before?
Nothing was said about any collar on it. I would assume that the one two years ago was probably radio collared before being released. But who knows.
There was a reported bear sighting within the last couple of days in Wauwatosa. This was just a couple of miles north of where a bear was darted two years ago.
I would like to make it but won’t be able to. I want to find out if this island really is haunted.

I’ve never seen a snake garden before 😆
Welcome back to the fold. Have fun.
Welcome to the cult, eh I mean club. I wouldn’t mind hooking up to help you out, however it may be a good couple of weeks before I can spend any serious time out there. I’m sure that somebody in here will be able to lend a hand. If you have some specific questions, don’t be afraid to ask. There are a lot of wonderful and very helpful cachers who check the forums more than once daily. Good luck to you.
05/09/2008 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Discussion of not logging temps, starting with this event #1888680One of the things I find interesting in this argument is the fact that most seem to say that it is not about the numbers. Those that are against logging temps have their reasons. However, they seem to be the ones most vocal about denying others the right to log temps, thus they are concerned about the numbers. I haven’t seen anything written here from temp loggers about how those who don’t log temps should be doing so. Personally, to each their own. There are days when I want to find as many as I can in a short period of time, and days when I have all the time in the world and will only do a couple. Am I a numbers guy? It all depends on the day.
This argument reminds me of the argument between bow hunters. Compound users against crossbow users against recurve users against longbow users. All this argument is going to do is pit cachers against cachers. And it has one helluva good start. This is a game with no winners. But once this sport starts getting torn apart by the indifferences of how one thinks others should be playing, evryone will be a loser. -
