I don’t want to hi-jack the thread…but is that avatar representative of the bear that is roaming around at RAC Pat? Because he (it) is really UGLY! [:)]
As one of the people that I’m sure was largely responsible for this poll in the first place I will say that obviously I like them. As some have already said I think that it gives me some focus on what I might want to do with my time caching. In the end they are like anything else, if you don’t like them then ignore them.
As to the question of publication, I have never published a challenge cache that I haven’t already qualified for myself, plus some. I generally will figure out what I have done and then lop off a reasonable amount to make it attainable for the vast majority of cachers.
And as for the number of challenge caches….there are currently 31 challenge caches listed on the U.S. Challenge Caches bookmark list in the whole state. Add to that the five or so challenges that have been added leading up to the picnic and we are now up to a whopping 36! I’m not sensing a saturation issue here quite yet. I just wish they had a separate icon so they were easier to find. 😕
Congrats on the 1000! I thought about coming over to join you on the hike, but just too much to do in preparation for the picnic in a couple of weeks. HILO is definitely on my short-term radar.
Nice work Jay….now we just need the picture with you and your Mickey Ears at the GZ to complete the deal!
Nice work Pete! That particular cache gave me fits too…..you have to watch those sandlanders…..! 😀
Shane — I wasn’t there to see the happenings of that event, but I am really sorry that you and your family had to deal with that. I personally feel that the games we provide in today’s culture are just a free chance for people to act like crybabies when they don’t get their way. The part that is even worse is that most of the parents are just as bad as the kids. I personally think that geocaching events should include three primary things….caching, working with new cachers, and socializing. Trying to mix anything else in there, especially something competitive, is asking for problems. If something needs to be done to help keep kids occupied then perhaps giving a participation prize is the ticket as it removes the competition from the equation. Just some random thoughts and rambling on my part. Have a great week!
I guess I should have paid attention a little closer….I missed the cut-off! 🙄
Congratulation zuma! 13K is a whole lotta somethin’! May you find many, many more.
Congratulations Pat and Mark! Persistence is the key and it paid off for you in the form of 1K. I’m glad to be able to have met you guys, cached with you a little, and relied on you to cover my oversights while I’m on vacation! 😳 Here’s to many more!
Congrats on #1400 Jay, and sorry I wasn’t able to acknowledge this myself seeing it was one of my caches that you chose. But I’m currently traveling about the great state of Maine, so my cell phone coverage and internet access is quite limited. Way to keep up the breakneck pace!
Missing ones….:-)

I cached with lagrac this weekend and he said the EC was archived after park officials requested it be shut down; and it in fact was solely due to the situation with the stairs. Brett said he was told at the time that they would be closed down indefinitely, so this was a better way to handle it than to just disable it and leave it sit.
Congratulations on your collection of 1300!
