I’m really hoping to make it… Just not sure what the wife is up to… I might be dragging the miniPinks there by myself.
Hope to be there!

Now there’s an idea for some “other” types of activities at our events… 😆

PTO,
The gc.com site was created at a time when the only other type of hide and seek game in the woods was “letterboxing.” The WGA was created by people playing on the gc.com pages and continues to represent those people today. All members of the WGA are members on the Groundspeak site. Though it is not a requirement. And…bottom line is…without Jeremy and friends starting the Groundspeak site, you don’t even know that any of those other sites you play on would be out there. Any questions, check out this site: http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Geocaching
And note that all references to “geocaching” pertain to links taking you to gc.com pages. (side note: be sure to click on the Dave Ulmer link. The history is interesting!)(another side note: the fact that one website chooses to link all its related links to gc.com proves only that there is a website that chooses to link all its links to gc.com. Not that it seems to matter but WikiPedia list nine different listing sites. Its a matter of where you get your information.I’m not saying it’s bad, or wrong to play on the other sites, I’m just saying that while there are those…obviously yourself included…who may think otherwise, the gc.com members are the members the WGA BOD needs to concern themselves with today!
I would tend to disagree here. The WGA BoD and the WGA is here to represent all Wisconsin geocachers. That said, the geocachers I worry about making a negative impact in the state are the ones who list on sites other than gc.com. The listsing on those site are not necessarily consistant with gc.com rules. The listings on those sites may not enforce the rules and guidelines that we in the WGA have worked so hard to put together with the DNR. The danger is not those on gc.com who know or will find out about the guidelines. The danger is from those who by chance or choice place and search geocaches that could threaten geocaching in WI.(I am curious about something though…how is it that someone who lives in St. Paul, MN, has been a gc.com member since July 8, 2003, and has 80 finds, finds themselves telling people who actually live in the state of WI what they can and can’t think about their association.)
Why don’t you go out and log 2000+ finds, travel to 19 states in search of hides, attend several CITO events to clean up parks, as well as collect seeds for the WI DNR, assist in the planning, execution of, and cleaning up of some WGA events (and cache hides), work with the WI Visitors Bureau, have an AP reporter follow you around for a day seeking hides (stopping on the way home to buy a GPSR because of the fun he had…attending an event you hosted…caching with you and your friends after the event…), visit a couple of city council meetings to see what’s happening with Geocaching, get paid to help newbies better prepare themselves for a day on the trails, as well as countless other activities for the sport of GEOCACHING, then tell me what the WGA should mean to me again! Oh yes, and unless you’ve done so without changing it on your gc.com profile, MOVE TO WISCONSIN! Perhaps then I’ll have more respect for what you think you know about my state and my assocation!
The opinions of the newbie who has yet to log a find are no more or no less valuable than the opinions of the seasoned geocacher. The reader can choose to place whatever value they’d like on what they read. But all opinions should be treated equally and with respect here on the forums.

(A proud and active voting member of the WGA!)Incidentally, PTO is listed as a “WGA Member” under his name above. that means two things. He has submitted his information with a WI address and he has a verifiable email address.
Glad you stumbled into this great family activity! I’m in the area as well if you ever need a caching companion or three. With all the new caches popping up all over, I’m quite sure there are several in the area I haven’t done yet!
Welcome!
I haven’t logged any of my cache finds since before the Campout. I have cached in three new states since then. Profiles aren’t always the best answer. Just ask. I certainly hope that if someone is unhappy with what I am or am not doing, they’d let me know. So far I’ve had no direct complaints. I believe a blanket statement that “the board fears criticism” is baseless and silly. And “far-fetched” or otherwise, I’ve nothing to make an excuse for.

Can’t get that from any ol’ GPSr…

Congratulations!
😀 😀 😀Four Emails and a PM !! 😆
Your WGA Board is not untouchable. All our contact info is there. There was never anything stopping someone from sending any email and cc:’ing the entire board. Again… No. Big. Deal. Feel free to use it if you’d like!

Yada Yada Yada… people are still crying foul, and the same people…
😆 😀
Anyone else find that laugh out loud funny?
😆 😀
I now return you to your regularily scheduled forum debate.
I always am eager to hear differing opinions…
What turns many away is the ways in which they are presented.
Each person who chooses to voice their opinion, also chooses how to present it.
Well reasoned, concise, accurate, and on-topic opinions are often welcomed with similar responses.
Many stomachs turn foul at opinions expressed as personally derogatory, insulting, demeaning, rude, vulgar or just plain mean.
I urge everyone to take extra time and express your opinions positively. Don’t make the conscious choice to put others down in the name of “expressing your opinion”.
If the writers take the effort to express themselves intelligently and the readers take the time to put the best possible spin on what you’ve read; our forums will remain squeaky clean! or something like that… 😛

That *was* a private email address to facilitate board business.
WOW! Seems it’s not the case any longer. I’m curious as to the reason that all BOD members weren’t aware that this was a “private” address…could it be another case of “lack of communication?”
BUZZ, BUZZ, Stir, Stir…

Someone must have missed that in their “New BoD Member Handbook” 🙄 No big deal, not like its a security breach or anything!

So in all your babbling, you’re saying you know 9…is that right Jeremy?
Glad to hear that since you’re the webmaster! You should know all of them.
As for the US reps…I don’t vote for all of them, so…
I know I missed one of the WGA BOD…oops…I’ll do better next time.mb
Am I the only WGA member who found this comment unwarranted and just plain rude? Come on, members, don’t be intimidated by one person. Let’s hear more of you stand up for civility and respect among members and in the forums. I know I am now the next target, but so be it.
I would guess that if kbraband would call someone’s post “babbling”; that would be rude. But that was actually pretty tame for MB. Not saying it wasn’t rude, just that we’ve come to expect a little harsh forwardness from MB. (Please take no offense MB, I’m with you here.) Obviously I’d prefer a perfectly clean forum… though having violated forum decency more than once myself I think it just has to come with the territory.
Now to steer this back on topic…

Dan,
With all due respect, your negativity towards this issue is not doing anything to make the situation better. The thread you’ve mentioned has been read by several board members and there are already dicussions about who we need to contact and what needs to be worked out.
The policy has been implemented. There will be bugs to work out. Sit on your hands and give it some time.
