All of this makes me want to scream! Geocaching.com needs to have a rating system so that finders can rate crappy caches as such and recognize good caches as such.
Ugh.
The WGA intends to do what it can to keep up with all the new geocaching regulations from around the state. It is not made any easier when the governing bodies refuse to work with us prior to coming up with flawed policies.
Thanks for the link…
This was also Five Years ago that Waushara County said no to geocaching.
I have to believe that there are currently geocaches in Waushara County Parks.
If there are, then I would rank this post as long gone news and would only assume their policy never went into effect.
Personally, I’d just let this sleeping dog lie.
GSAK has a bigger learning curve than most other methods due to its tremendous power, multitude of features, and superior compatibility with nearly every known GPS Technology around.
Easy GPS has the advantage of being able to plot out those coordinates on a map Which can come in very handy too.
I would give GSAK another whack. Read up on any FAQ’s or Forums at thier site. It really is a nice piece of software.
WayTags.com would be willing to donate any WayTags they would need for the project.
and still going strong… 😆
Sorry, I was just commenting on the Thread Stealers Thread being stolen… 😈
Boy, talk about Thread Stealing!
ME?
Noooo…..
😈
Yup… 2 AA’s and a pocket full of change…
The amazing thing is that with 2 batteries, they had to line up to make some sort of a circuit to get the coins hot. Wierd.
I’ll sell mine to the highest bidder 😀
Was starting to feel left out until the Mrs. mentioned that there was a package for me that came today! WooHoo!
The cool thing is that my Jeep is named after the Tomorrow River right here in WI. There a couple of Caches that I’ve already scouted out right on the river that would be great starting points for this Jeep.
Cool!
I have to side with cacheseekers on this one, too.
If you don’t like it; don’t hunt it. But also, don’t take the added step of becoming the geocaching police or asking our reviewers to do that as well. The nice thing about our sport is that we are self-policing but not self-regulating. If we were to create rules or standards that would fit the “community” view on every geocache placed, we would have a huge non-variety of blaze-orange Warning-labeled and clearly marked “geocaches” for us to find.
However, we all have an option to just plain old not hunt the ones we don’t like. We also have the right to complain about the ones we don’t like. We even have the right to email the owners with our concerns and post questions about these caches in public forums. You even have the right to stand in front of the questionable geocache and picket each and every
geocacher that comes to find it, handing them colorful literature decrying the very dangers you suspect are inherent in the aforementioned geocache. However, I do not believe you have a right to stop these geocaches from being placed by over-regulating our activity. To speak to your point about city property and permissions and working with local governments, you make many very valid arguments. But the responsibility goes right back to the cache hider. They have the responsibility to gain “adequate permission” to hide and maintain the geocache. They also have a responsibility to rate the geocache properly, which it appears has been done.
Could this geocache end up having a negative impact on geocaching? Yes. Then, if you as a geocacher feel strongly enough; please mentor the cache hider to reconsider the hide. This is a matter best left between geocachers, and not given over to more regulation of the activity.
We need to preserve the right to place and hunt geocaches of ALL types. But, just because you have the right to do something; doesn’t always mean its the right thing to do.
PS I split this thread off of the original to keep the topics separate.
Any “Needs to Archive” logs go directly to a reviewer for their attention.
If you’ve done that twice now, I have to believe that the reviewer has been in contact with the cache owner. Though if this is a cache that has been disabled for a while, our wga2 reviewer, Tie, will probably be sending them the “You’ve got 4 weeks to get this up and running or else…” Reviewer Note.
Also, double check that the logs you left were “Needs to Archive” and not “Needs Maintenance” as the latter only go to the cache owner and not reviewers.
Hope that helps… Good Luck!
Thanks for the feedback, folks. I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to vote. The Board is working on getting email announcements and/or a newsletter going to keep all of our membership informed of what’s going on with geocaching in WI.
