Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…The trick is to only seek caches that have been found shortly after a recent snowfall. Then follow the track to the cache area and only look where the snow is already cleared away!
Truthfully though, if you add one point to the terrain and difficulty, that’s what winter caching is. It just take a bit longer sometimes! Several pairs of dry warm gloves for digging and/or those cheap hand warmers in the pockets.

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…I use both Cachemate and Plucker.
I use CacheMate as my own personal repository of most of the caches I’ll ever visit (currently holds around 1900 caches.)
I use Plucker only for smaller lists of specific caches I know I’ll be hunting soon (only about 300-500 at a time)
This is simply because CacheMate can store a trmendous amount of caches without hogging the memory and Plucker, with all the images and similiarity to an actual html page, is a huge memory hog (for those of us who do not have a lot of it to go around).
Try them both and see what you like. If I had to go with one or the other, I’d go for the Plucker/GSAK Combo. That’s just me though.

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…I did my first 96 caches with a Palm m515 and a GPS Companion cradle. It worked well, I had great reception (cough, Magellan, cough…) and was generally satisfied. It did however become apparent that I was in danger of busting up my nice PDA if I kept using it in snow, rain, on cliffs and over rivers. So I bought a standalone SporTrak Map. I’m not sorry I did it this way but if I had to do it over again, I would spend my dough on a standalone GPS, right off the bat.
