There aren’t too many… not like the private campgrounds.

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…There is not one on site, but there are a couple of convienience stores within a mile or two. The good thing about camping with everyone is that if you forgot something, chances are that someone else will have it to loan/lend.

Before everyone gets too excited and archives half the Wisconsin Wayside caches; please take a breath!
The WI DOT does not have a policy on geocaching in their waysides. If they wish to do so, the board will be more than willing to work with them on your behalf. This one email does not speak for the entire State Department of Transportation.
While I personally agree that flying under the radar has its advantages; geocaching is emerging as a legitimate activity throughout the world and will need to be addressed by public agencies eventually. Seeking permission is not a bad thing.Be assured that the Board’s ears have been “perked up” to this and we will keep this on our radar screen!

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…As a cache owner, I actually had to delete someone’s log and ask them to re-log it. They completely gave away a four-star difficulty hide! To their credit, at least they encrypted it; but it truly was a complete giveaway! They were kind enough to re-log it after I sent the newbies an email explaining why their log was gone and the “geo-ethics” of logging dead-giveaways. I must say though, its only in extreme circumstances that I’d ever do that again!
For those of you wondering, it was the USS KRAKEN.

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…Thanks for the bump! This topic was briefly discussed at the Board meeting, but nothing actionable occurred in the allotted time for discussion. (How’s that for political speak saying “We skipped that because we ran out of time.” )
I still think this is a good idea and wil resurrect this in with the Board. I can’t imagine there being too many negatives.
My vision for the separate forum: “An unintimidating place for New Members to introduce themselves to the community and ask questions about the WGA and geocaching in general.”
As a separate note: many of the other items discussed above were brought up at the meeting and most of these issues will resolve themselves with the upcoming website upgrades.

After reading through the linked thread and seeing some of the same childish and malicious behaviour present in an otherwise thoughful and worthy arguement, I’d like to say Thanks once again for the reminder I needed as to why I no longer read the gc.com forums!
This too can be a reminder as to the care we need to take with the duality of written word; full of meanings, empty of explanation or intent. I’m hard pressed to ever shy away from expressing or reading an opinion about any topic.
I now return you to your regularily scheduled topic…
