  • Just a Note:

I just spoke with Supervisor Krueger, Vice-Chair of the Brown county Board of Supervisors. He indicated that he did not think the Ed&Rec Cmte Geocaching items would be on the agenda for this evening. So if you are planning on attending, don’t. He was certain that we would be on the July meeting agenda. As a safeguard, he indicated that if it did come up and he was giving me the wrong information, he would ask that the issue be tabled to accommodate our being able to speak to the board prior to a vote.

I’ll post more information when I have it.

Maybe instead of just pulling garlic mustard. We can cut out the branches with the nests in them at the next campout and fry them in a bon fire.

Is the campout food budget really THAT small?

Doing everything we can to keep this a dues-free organization! 😆 😉 🙄

Thank you to Larry and Justin for backing me up. Things went rather well considering; and I, too, am rather impressed that they spent over an hour talking about geocaching!

Just a little reminder though that this was only a committee meeting and their recommendation will need to be voted on by the full Brown County Board on Wed. June 20. I will be in attendance at that meeting as well to answer any questions that may arise, but as I’ve been told, this may very well be a formality (Though the one supervisor might decide to raise a stink about ammo boxes and bomb squads again…).

I think much of the “work” for this endeavor was completed in previous years when the WGA began its successful relationship with the DNR. One of the goals of that endeavor was to set it up as an example for the rest of the state and the fact that the DNR was OK with geocaching and notifications went a long way towards getting this fee rescinded.

There are still some items of business that we, the geocachers in NE WI will need to take care of for Brown County, but I think we are well on our way to a great working relationship.

    Anyone else planning on attending?

Jeremy, I will hopefully be meeting up with these folks, tonight. I may need your help as a phone-a-friend. Keep your cell phone handy!

I take it from the lack of calls and emails tonight that either things went really well (like you followed my instructions/suggestions and everything downloaded fine… just like I said it would :)) or went really bad (like you didn’t meet up with these folks due to the weather, or you got there and couldn’t do anything because they lost power).

Yeah, we tried the cable… After following directions to to a tee, I paged through the iFinder. Started doing the old “I wonder if it will work if I change this setting… Nope.” Tried many different things. I d’loaded Lowrance’s own GDM software but apparently that only creates a text or .usr file.

The card reader is really the way to go. You will get all of your waypoint information instead of just the coordinates through the cord.

Had a nice visit with Caron55. Glad we could be of some assistance.

The GeoPink Clan would be interested in a campout Jr. type event. I’ll bring the S’mores! 😀

    Hey Jeff,
I’m planning on going, would you like to carpool together up there???

Sure. That is if you don’t mind trying to help out some newbies for a little while afterwards.

Carron55 had asked for help in the help forums with downloading to thier Lowrance via the cable. They PM’d me as I’d offered assistance and we’re planning on meeting at their house after the meeting. I’m sure they won’t mind meeting another crazy geocacher.

PM me with when and where I should pick you up. I’d like to leave here around 4:30ish.

Any one else from the Port Cities coming along?

I would be miffed too. However, don’t be miffed with the WGA. We had absolutely nothing to do with it.

More than likely the Arboretum Director contacted gc.com or one of the WI reviewers and asked that this be done. It is unfortunately out of the hands of the WGA.

I would suggest writing or better yet, calling the Arboretum Director and getting his permission to place your cache in a non-sensitive area or verify that the placement is indeed not “harmful or disruptive to the arboretum and the university”. Last time I checked the Arboretum was open to the public.

And if it is the cache I am thinking of, it was a nice area that I would have never visited otherwise…

    Good Luck!

I just got off the phone with Supervisor Johnson, the Chair of the Ed&Rec Committee.

She indicated she would “suspend the rules in order to let any interested parties speak” at the meeting. I told her that there has been plenty of discussion here and I wasn’t sure how many folks may be in attendance, but she assured me that anyone who would like to speak, could. We talked for a while and I had the chance to answer some of her questions and discuss some of the things the WGA has done in other areas of the state. She indicated it would be very good to have me there to answer some of the questions the committee had the last time it had come up.

While we all would like to give the committee our two cents, I would also hate to leave a bad taste in their mouth by having everyone there berate the idea of fee based geocaching, and comparing them to the People’s Republic of Madison. I would encourage us to show up in numbers for support as we did in Manitowoc, but lets only have a few of us speak. This will ensure a positive, unified response to the committee from geocachers and the WGA.

    Those attending:
    June 7, 5:30 pm.
    Room 200, Northern Building
    305 E. Walnut Street
    Front Door, Second Floor.

(:oops:I forgot to ask Supervisor Johnson for coordinates… :D)

I am planning on being there.

I have emailed the committee chair with some questions but am not getting any response. I’d like the ability to address the committee and offer the WGA’s services and open a dialog, but I can’t do that if she won’t return my emails.

WayTags.com is currently going through a server meltdown and a transition to a new E-Commerce Shopping Cart and Pricing Structure, which is giving me terrible headaches upon headaches.

Please hang tight while we make these improvements!

…we may take you up on your offer Geopink!

Glady, but I can’t promise anything, and we’ll have to do a couple of caches whether we can get it to work or not! 😀
