I, too, would be willing to help place caches for the big gig. I am only an hour and a half away at most and I spent some time on the trails at the park last summer for a week. Team GeoPink is looking forward to an early start to our camping season and meeting fellow geo-families! Let me know the date that caches would be placed and hopefully I will be available!

Sometimes the firewalls go an extra step and block cookies, ads, popups, etc. Mine (Zone Alarm) does those things as well but everything should be customizable allowing you to turn off that “feature.” Funny thing, computers that is…

Co-conspirators to make the world a better placeI couldn’t tell you what may be causing you to lose your cookies… ok bad pun. If its just the WGA site thats the problem I would suggest going to Internet Options>Privacy> on the bottom is a button marked [edit] clicking that will take you to where you can manually manage your cookies (blacklist/whitelist) via IE. If you have other programs intercepting them though, this may not help.
If you’re looking for a really good, free firewall I would suggest Zone Alarm. I have used it for several years now with huge success and it is easy to use even for the beginner.
Also if you want to test your firewalls capabilities go to http://grc.com and run thier ShieldsUp! tests. Good stuff there.

Co-conspirators to make the world a better placeWhen you Right click on the HotSync icon in the TaskBar, is there a checkmark next to Infrared near the top? Other than that, you got me!
I’ll think on it as I too use the IR to HotSync and have never had any problems.
G’luck

Co-conspirators to make the world a better placeMy question would be this: What is so special about the one year limit? Why not two or three or five or 6 months?
Each cache is different in its own way. Each cache will have a large number of visitors when it is young. This will taper off as the cache matures and there will then be a rather steady amount of visits to the cache. Obviously there will be examples of extremes one way or another where a cache recieves absolutely no visitors for a long time or will recieve constant visitors for extended periods of time. This is where cache owner maitenance comes in. If the hide is such that it will naturaly not be visited often then the one year thing makes no sense. The converse being that if the cache is particularily appealing, the cache may have a hundred visitors in a couple of months.
My point is two-fold.
1) Each cache is different, this being the case one cannot assign an arbitrary time stamp for archival, voluntary or not. If after this time period the cache owner still has the option of keeping the cache or archiving the cache as has been suggested, then see #2.
2) What you are sugesting is that the cache owner check on his/her cache on a regular basis and at the “one year” point to determine what, if any, environmental impact his/her cache may have had. You are simply telling us to maintain our caches. This is already the responsibilty of every cache owner. Who better than the owner to know at what time periods thier cache will require maintenance or eventually archival. The idea of a one year voluntary end date is an unnecessary and redundant layer of “regulation”. Why don’t we instead focus on educating cache owners, both new and experienced, on environmental impact, regular cache maintenance, working with park authorities, and overall good caching ethics. This will go much farther to enhance the enjoyment and positive expansion of the sport for all cachers.

Co-conspirators to make the world a better placeI used the GPS Companion / Palm m515 combination for the first 95 caches I’ve done. The GPS works fantastic in all weather and tree cover! I could put it in my coat pocket and not worry about it loosing the signal. The screen is nice and big and in color. The memory on the Palm is plenty for Cachemate which is what I use. There is software available for mapping using this combination but only tried the trial version. It did work pretty slick though. Memory on the Palm is not an issue as there is an SD slot to increase the available memory. The only real downside to this combination is that they are not waterproof. I did have pretty good luck with some rough and tumble but I wouldn’t drop it off a cliff or anything! All in all I was very satisfied.
Now, you ask why are you not still using it? I had to downgrade. I also have a Palm m125 that no longer synced through the cradle. I’ve since fixed that and no longer need my Palm m515 and GPS Companion. So I bought a SporTrak Map and will be selling my Palm m515, GPS Companion, Cradles, Cards, Mounts, and Cables shortly. (If you are interested email me… [email protected] ) Hope this info helps!

Co-conspirators to make the world a better place9:22pm and now I’m getting the “This page Cannot be displayed” Page. GC.com has been slow and difficult for the past two weeks. Always kicking me to the trouble page instead of cache pages (especially when I’m logging find or searching with the map) I’m hoping this is something that TPTB will be taking care of shortly…
