Well I took everyones advice… I just finished a personal record 11 caches in one day. I get back and *WHALLA* my caches are approved! (Thanks Brian!)

Now I guess I just sit here and wait for someone to find them! AUGH! the suspence! I suppose I’m just supposed to go out and find a bunch more caches!

Bumping this back to the top…

I tried to find the page that explains putting the Placed by in your cache description from the main pages of the site but I could not find it. I eventually remembered that I originally saw this in the forums and had to go down a bit but her it is! Can we link the Placed by FAQ page from the other Hiding a Cache Page that is found on the Main page? (Wow, I’m not sure if I follow that…)

This is why those of us that can’t sell a ketchup popsicle to an eskimo are afraid to ask permission when geocaching is not explicitly or implicitly restricted. The fear of one ignorant individual being able to take away the ability for us to participate in an activity we enjoy in “thier” corner of the world. Not all of us are the next Dale Carnegie (even though we have read the book).

Is it even possible for the NPS to ban Virtuals? What, don’t I, John Q. GPSOwner, have the ability/right to carry and use my GPS unit in a NPS Park? Can they really limit our ability to use it to walk/hike a certain route or find a certain monument? Will the Department of Whatever revoke GC.com’s ability to post coordinates located within a National Park?

    I think not…

in reply to: December Breakfast? #1746048

There is a Breakfast scheduled here in Manitowoc in January! I am planning a couple of caches that will be hidden shortly (my first hides so I am taking my time ). It would be great if some of you “southerners” would be able to join us!

I’ve not used Plucker for caching yet but I really like Cachemate. All the info is laid out well and easy to find. Also the ability to decode hints at the press of a button is nice after you’ve just spent half an hour looking and need a little boost. I also like the ability to have up to 5 logs available too. For me the $7 was an easy decision! I’ve also used the “Find nearest Caches” feature several times when I’m away from home and I have an hour or two to kill caching. I’ve got over 700 Caches saved in MN & WI all at my fingertips!

The link by rpaske was not working for me so I’ll give you the quick skinny!

Along with the Main Cachemate program is another called cmconvert.exe When you find this program amongst your unzipped Cachemate files, make sure you place a copy onyour desktop or make a shortcut or something because this is the utility which will get your PQ (.gpx) files onto your PDA. Here are the steps

    1) run cmconvert.exe
    2) Click [Load File] and choose the .gpx file you wish to load
    3) Click [Select All] to select all the files loaded into cmconvert (or manually select whatever files you would like to upload)
    4) Click [Convert] to Convert files and prepare them for download to your PDA. The process for getting the files into Cachemate on your PDA is automatically performed after clicking Convert.

Your files will now be synced to your PDA the next time you HotSync!

    Hope this helps!

Just a bump and a request for more information about any other counties or cities that you’all live in. Is this a common “problem” or just unique to Manitowoc?

    Thanks!

OK I’m slightly confused… What about us tenters that bring everything in a trailer? Is there enough room in our parking area for a vehicle and the trailer its pulling or would one of them have to be parked elswhere?

Have fun this weekend! I’ll be at home taking care of my ill Team GeoPink… all six of us have some level of the flu!

in reply to: County Park “Seasons” #1739662

Just to clarify… There is NO known permanent staffing at any of the County Parks in Manitowoc. Each park consist of primarily picnic areas, playgrounds, hiking trails, some waterfronts, and a bathroom (most are pit toilets). We’re not talking about any fancy Nature Center here, just pieces of land! It’s kind of like closing the old waysides in winter. Why?

in reply to: Next year’s campout #1744124

Yeah! Hartman Creek was the Team GeoPink’s home for a week last year (family vacation) They have great facilities and a rather large system of trails, etc. (Ice Age Trail runs through this park) Consider my vote cast for Hartman’s Creek!

I do however like the idea of putting a later date to the Campout though. Early to mid June would be ideal! Not too many skeeters and warm and dry enough weather! My vote is to bump the date back, but I do also understand that as a newbie I don’t get much pull [ ]

    thanks for this discussion!

in reply to: DEER HUNTING #1746010

Better than taking the weekend off would be to find some urban caches or do some benchmark hunting! Some of the things I’m looking forward to doing here in the winter!
Also… I’ve been wearing my Blaze Orange Hat for several weeks now and my girls always “put on their orange” before we’ve gone out. There has been gun hunters out since I found my first cache less than a month ago! Orange “safety” vests for over the top of your jacket may look stupid but a hole in your chest will look even stupider!
