Lowrance… Red-headed step-brother of the GPSr Community. 😀
Jeremy, I was reading that gc.com thread and it seemed to me that it was primariliy for the Go series iFinders.
I’m speculating, but I’d hope the H2O series would be much more simple. Then again, who knows…
Ah, yes now that you mention it my first digital camera could only download pictures through the software that came with it.
Only thing is, when talking with folks at the campout who had purchased the H20 iFinders, they mentioned that there was no software (CD) with it. (Some had just came from the store and had their manuals in hand!) Maybe check the Lowrance Website (though a brief there search got me nowhere 😕 )

The Lowrance units have to be handled specially in GSAK, not through the normal “GPS->Send Waypoints” mechanism. You first need to create a Lowrance USR file in GSAK by doing the following:
– Click on the File menu
– Go to Export
– Click on Lowrance USR…
– Set the export options, enter a filename, and click GenerateThe next step is to copy the USR file created to a memory card… which is easily done if you have a USB card reader for your PC like this. Once it is on the memory card, put the card in the GPS and there are some options for transferring data in a USR file into the unit’s internal memory.
Note that I’ve only ever moved waypoints to iFinders with memory cards. I’m not sure if you can somehow transfer the USR file to the unit directly via the cable using some Lowrance software? (We are still waiting for our backordered Lowrance cable for the Pineapple device so I’m clueless on how this would work…)
Bottom line… you may need to scrap the cable idea and instead buy a SD card (if you don’t have one already) and USB card reader. If you can return the cable, you may find that buying a reader ($10) and small SD card (<$10) is cheaper anyway… this reader/card package would definitely work if the iFinder can handle a 2GB card.
With all the trouble that I’ve seen iFinder people going through just to get the card in and out (remove batteries, etc.); I wouldn’t scrap the cable just yet.
It may not be possible to send the .usr file to the unit via GSAK, but I would imagine that once the cable is plugged into your computer and the unit is turned on; it would show up as a removable drive and you could cut and paste the file that way. (I’m just guessing here, but that how the Magellans work.)
Keep trying, and worst case scenario, I’ll drive up to Green Bay and help you figure it out! 😀

It’s always compelling to see my interests in the media.
This program did present the newbie’s excitement well. It also showed, subtly, one of my favorite parts of geocaching: realizing that you don’t know a place you thought you knew (“I didn’t even know this was here!”)
The experienced GC’er was patient, and taught the newbie what he knew.
But I think we can do better.
We should be able to find a media contact that would be willing to take a little more time to prepare a thorough overview of “Geocaching as We Know It.”
(uh oh, I thinking I hear a committee forming.)Too late, its already formed. 😉 It’s called the Community Education Committee and we’d love to have you join us! 😀
…it seems reasonable for geocachers to have a lil doxycycline on hand so you can take a dose…
Spoken like a true medical professional. 😆 I have a hard time keeping on hand, something I can’t even begin to pronounce!
I’ll have to go bug my brother-in-law, the pharmacist, and he can tell me what it is and where to get it…
Then again, maybe I’ll just wait until I get bit, first.

Also, since the campout is over, I assume the campout committee is disbanded and a new one will form for next year’s campout. Is this true?
Yes, we will be doing that. Currently we are assembling our board volunteers for the campout committee on the BoD Forum. Then we will be opening up the committee to the membership.
Nope, you didn’t miss it. I’ll get around to that soon here. I’m planning on trying to use the wiki thing to make some pages pertinent to the Committees and these would include the membership list.
I’ll let you know personally when I get this done, though don’t hold your breath… I’ve got Adopt-A-Highway events to plan and coordinate, Brown County meeting to attend and hopefully speak at, not to mention my by-laws mandated duty as VP to inventory and track all WGA Property (also gonna be a wiki thing.)…
If anyone needs a list of current committee members in a non-formal way, please post here and I’ll stick it somewhere in this thread temporarily.
I, too, issue the same apology to those down wind of me… 😳
As for the MiniPink… We actually did rather well keeping them baby wiped clean throughout the weekend until they played near the campfire sand and soot shortly before heading home.
We subjected them to a McDonald’s bathroom wash down after eating there and bathed them intensly after arriving home.
Tick count was suprisingly low…
Sara had two (climbing trees w/ GrouseTalesJr.)
Audrey had one, and I had only the one on my leg at the gathering.
[edit]Add one more tick just found in Elizabeths hair.zuma is obsessed with posting on the forums… 😀
Considering the nightly campfire has pretty much been a non-event…
Which is why we decided to make it an event.
Glow Sticks, Marshmallows, S’mores, and HotDogs (the meat product not the geocacher) will all be provided for you, the Members, by the WGA.
I’m looking forward to a great time!

Our team will not be pulling the garlic mustard due to allergies. But I do have a dozen work gloves I can donate. Who is heading up this project?
Thank you very much for thinking of this. You can bring them along to registration on Saturday. I will be there soliciting volunteers for Operation Garlic Mustard. We certainly appreciate your donation.

Yup… I’ll be making an announcement soon. If you’re on US10, you can start watching for our sign… 😉
